A gang of brazen thieves dropped the priceless Eugénie Crown outside the Louvre in Paris during a jaw-dropping daylight heist of the world's most visited museum.
The group of criminals swiped priceless items, including a necklace and a brooch once belonging to Napoleon Bonaparte and his wife Josephine, in broad daylight, forcing the tourist attraction to shut its doors.
The raid, which took place at around 9.30am on Sunday, saw the thieves brazenly break into the art museum, which is also home to the Mona Lisa, by propping a huge freight elevator up against its walls, according to an investigating source.
The group of several 'highly organised criminals' arrived on scooters, masking their

They will take the jewels out of the settings and sell them on the black market. The settings will probably be melted down for the metal. Sad to see works of art ruined.

Dropped the crown out of a window? What fool would expect it to survive that?

#3, The crooks are idiots. The small amount of gems and precious metals are not "priceless"; the work of art is (or was).

I expect that they will be caught.
We were there a few weeks ago, walking along the Seine the the Orangery Museum to view the Water Lillies paintings once more. And a walk through the Tuileries is always nice on a sunny day.

Please tell me they have saved security camera footage of all visitors to that room over the past month or two. The thieves had obviously been there before. No mention of nationality but a certain group loves to get around on scooters.

Ah poster #7, you forgot Chief Inspector Dreyfus! It's hard to view the French as anymore than a bunch of Clouseau's these days. Too bad the world possibly lost these treasures for good.
On a side note, "The Return of the Pink Panther" (1975) and "The Pink Panther Strikes Again" (1976) were by far the best Pink Panther movies. To this day, my nonagenarian Father and I still wipe away tears of laughter watching them!

The authorities need to tell the thieves that they will NOT hunt them down and remove the toenails and assorted other appendages if they return the goods intact.
Oh, I forgot - the Europeans have lost the ability to think like that. Maybe Trump can get them back for them.

Why was it that the first thing that came to mind was Moslem criminals hired by some terror-linked entity, perhaps a rogue Saudi prince?
How is it I see in my mind's eye the crown jewels in some Parisian no-go zone where the thieves now wait for the heat to subside?
Why do I feel confident predicting that those priceless jewels will provision a terrorist arsenal?
Am I a psychic or a loon?
On second thought, don't tell me.

#9 is right! Although The Pink Panther and A Shot in the Dark (1963 and 1964) were fantastic movies, the character of Jacques Clousseau was not fully formed until 1975's The Pink Panther Returns. 1976's The Pink Panther Strikes Again was the greatest of all the Pink Panther movies. Peter Sellers was one of a kind.

One other thing: Great actor Herbert Lom ("the lunatic Dreyfus"), lived to age 95. God bless him, Peter Sellers, Blake Edwards, and all who were involved in the Clousseau franchise. We all thank you.

There is nothing made by the artifice of men that are safe from determined criminals; no matter how precious or revered it may be. The tomb robbers of ancient Egypt comes to mind.

I would thin that such items would be protected behind bullet proof glass, and armed guards would be on the premises. Somehow i doubt it was French citizens that did this. I suspect immigrants.

They weren't stolen for cheap chump change. Someone, somewhere, has commissioned the crown jewels, and is will to pay big bucks.

I'm with #9. And I respectfully diverge from #12 very slightly. The Return of the Pink Panther is a better movie, with a brilliantly executed cat burglary at the beginning, and the comedy of Peter Sellers sprinkled appropriately throughout. Christopher Plummer and Catherine Schell make the rest of the movie work, and Herbert Lom's floor descent into madness is more fun the first time. Strikes Again exceeds in it's excess, but isn't as good a film overall.
But I loved them both as a child, and love them still now.

#20 is correct, and I stand corrected, although Catherine Schell couldn't stay straight during any of her takes with Peter Sellers. They left it in the movie anyway. In the last real Peter Sellers Pink Panther movie, we got to see the lunatic Dreyfus faint and fall out. "Peek a buh!"
