U.N. to Vote on First-Ever Global Tax

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is meeting in London to vote on new rules to cut “greenhouse gases” by imposing a first-ever global tax on shipping emissions. The meeting of the U.N. agency ends Friday and is expected to finalize a “Net-Zero Framework (NZF)” where commercial ships would pay for emissions over a set limit as defined by the IMO, while vessels that meet tougher standards could trade or bank so-called “surplus units.” The Trump administration unequivocally rejects the proposal and has threatened to retaliate if nations support it, setting the stage for a fight over the climate deal.

Comments:

"....without representation" Why are we even in the UN? Our enemies occupy significant ground in NYC and we can't even ticket their illegally parked cars.
Thank God Kamala isn't in the WH.

The UN has Climate Change on the run! The more money the UN gets - - the more scared Climate Change becomes. I ran into Climate Change a few days ago - - and it really looked scared and sickly. So - - UN - - raise even more taxes - - and keep raising them until Climate Change crawls back into its spider hole!

Just another way to take money from countries that produce. 80% off the top goes to the UN to disappear, then less than 5% will trickle down to who know what. I know the math doesn't add up. It never does with bureaucrats to begin with, then you have to apply the UN corruption factor.

Net-Zero is aspirational and ego driven. It's not necessary. They don't have the fuels needed to get even close either. The shippers aren't willing to pay for the increase in fuel costs either.

Quick, name one useful thing that the UN has done in the past 10 years that has actually done something positive forthe world.... Now, name some three stupid things that the UN has done that has done nothing to make the world a better place but gave the UN bureaucrats an opportunity for cocktails and fancy dinners. Bet you came up with three stupid things (probably more) pretty fast). This just adds to a long list of idiotic things that the UN does that accomlishes nothing but makes the UN bureacrats feel good about themselves and gets them more money for the UN money black hole.

After a U.S.-led campaign, the United Nations has postponed a vote on a proposal to impose the world’s first global carbon tax on shipping, delaying the decision by one year. The rule was expected to come up for a vote this week as part of the U.N. International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) "Net-Zero Framework." But a majority of member nations voted to defer it after failing to reach consensus amid U.S. opposition. Backed by the European Union and Brazil, the plan seeks to raise billions from carriers that exceed new emissions limits, channeling the revenue toward climate adaptation and clean-fuel projects in developing nations. Washington and Riyadh led the opposition.

But today, the U.S. and indeed, all of Western civilization, faces a very real existential threat, one equal to war: the global collapse of fertility and families. In country after country, the stark, awful news emerges on a nearly daily basis: birth rates are plunging as women disengage from traditional marriage and family life, and young men do the same. The U.S. is no exception. Last year, the U.S. fertility rate plunged to an all-time low of 1.6 children per woman, a rate roughly 24% below the 2.1 children required j
