Pride Cometh Before the Fall

Original Article

A few years ago, on the way home from a road trip, my wife and I stopped at a Cracker Barrel along the highway. The kids had never been to one, and we wanted to share with them one of our favorite childhood experiences. Needless to say, we were disappointed. It took forever to get our food. And when it finally arrived, the food wasn’t just bad. It was downright awful. The waiter, bless his heart, was a space cadet. On the way out, our kids asked in genuine befuddlement why we talked the place up so much.

Comments:

I love Cracker Barrel, nothing eating there and shopping there, and have since my college years. What this woke Karen of a CEO is doing to the company is a travesty, but as a typical leftist, you can't tell her ANYTHING!!

What the OP said. There are closer places to eat, and less incentive to drive there now. Go woke, go broke, especially on the backside of the Woke wave.

What is it with female CEO'S? They all, well most all, seem to have a screw loose. It is if they really want their company to fail, I just don't understand it at all.

Like the author of the article, the last time I went there, the food was downright awful. Until this woke nonsense, I had not ruled out another visit. Now, I will not go back, probably ever. It seems as if a woke female CEO, of any business, is a recipe for disaster.

The Cracker Barrel that we occasionally frequent has been consistently good, with one exception. Everyone has a bad day, so no foul from me. We will probably try them again, during one of our 'old folks' Dr. visits. As long as it's not covered in pride flags and LGBTQ+ garbage and if the food is still good, we'll still occasionally frequent them. The bathrooms are clean and the service is usually good, so unless that's changed for the worst, I have no problem.

Number 2, female CEO's? I hear you and I'd add that it seems that an unusual proportion of police departments have female chiefs despite the law enforcement profession being dominated by males. Not to besmirch the dedicated female officers but chiefs should be chosen from the ranks of well seasoned, highly experienced people not as a token to show off at a press conference and fail to answer a reporter's question about the chief's chain of command as happened recently.

Cracker Barrel lost me when they got rid of the old fashioned candy-Mary Janes, taffy, hot balls, peppermint sticks, candy corn, cinnamon, sour balls, jelly beans, and jawbreakers. . .

There was a restaurant near here that was bad, but it was all you can eat with a steak guy. This steak guy was so good their business went through the roof. People started tipping him specifically and he was the reason many showed up. Management, hoping to hold onto a good employee, promoted him right out of the kitchen. He tried to train his replacements but they were no good. In just a few months they were back to postage stamp sized steaks, all fat and burned. If they'd just paid him more to do the same job it would have been great. Good employees are hard to find and even harder to keep.

I never particularly cared for Cracker Barrel’s menu and prefer to Yelp or use Trip Advisor to find good locally owned restaurants while on the road. I’m sort of sick of big corporations hogging so many markets and where food is concerned I find local restaurants are often superior to the big chains. Except Arby’s. Nothing beats their roast beef sandwiches.

Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson invoked a popular comic strip in an angry dissent, accusing her colleagues of being in the bag for President Donald J. Trump. The left-winger who was appointed by disgraced former President Joe Biden to fulfill his pledge to put a black woman on the SCOTUS has repeatedly shown that she lacks the intellect and temperament for the job with her emotional antics. Not that another example was needed, but Jackson served it up anyway, describing the court’s latest overruling of an activist lower court judge who blocked the ending of DEI-based grants at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as “Calvinball.”

Two people have been charged with murder for the fentanyl death of a toddler in March in Leavenworth, Kansas. “The Leavenworth Police Department arrested 40-year-old Tara Huerta on Friday. The Kansas City Police Department arrested Kenneth Hedgecock, 34, days later,” WTVM reported. The arrests occurred after a 3-year-old was found unresponsive in Huerta and Hedgecock’s apartment in March and was transported to a hospital. The child ultimately did not survive, and a May 29 autopsy report revealed the toddler died of acute fentanyl toxicity.

Representative Al Green, who has served Texas’s 9th Congressional District since 2005, will finally leave office. The Texas Legislature, led by Republicans, passed a legal redrawing of congressional maps that effectively eliminates District 9. Green, best known not for legislation but for shouting down President Trump during his address to Congress in March 2025, will be removed from office after nearly two decades of loud, ineffective, and divisive politics. Unsurprisingly, Rep. Al Green called the redistricting racist. But the only racial injustice here is the Democrat Party’s decades-long abuse of district lines to cling to power.

Vance noted how Democrats had aggressively gerrymandered their states over the past 10 to 20 years. It appears that many of Boston's officers are quietly rebelling against the anti-ICE stance taken by Boston Mayor Michelle Wu's (D) administration. According to acting ICE Director Todd Lyons, Boston cops are secretly providing critical information to federal immigration officials to help arrest criminal illegal aliens—a bold move that flies in the face of the sanctuary city policies pushed by Wu and other extremist Democrat mayors across the country. For years, Boston, under Wu’s leadership, has been one of the loudest advocates of the sanctuary city movement. It’s moments like this that end campaigns. Terry McAuliffe sealed his fate against Glenn Youngkin after he imploded in the debates, where he went full communist on education and parental rights, saying parents shouldn’t have a say in what schools teach their children. The ‘We own your kids’ attitude killed him. In 2025, Republican gubernatorial candidate Winsome Sears addressed a meeting of the Arlington County School Board after a sex offender gained access to a girls’ restroom at a local high school, claiming to be transgender. President Trump went on a late-night attack against NBC and ABC News on Sunday, deriding them for what, in his view, was "biased" coverage and said he would be in favor of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) revoking their licenses. The Republican president said the news outlets had given him negative coverage on "97%" of stories. It wasn’t clear from where Trump was citing the "97%" figure. A study released earlier this year by the conservative media watchdog group, Media Research Center (MRC), found that coverage of the president’s first 100 days in office was "92% negative."

Videos of the nation’s capital being swept clean of homeless encampments in just one week may have Californians adding Washington, DC, to the unofficial list of top-10 U-Haul destinations. In Los Angeles, the problem of tent encampments has persisted for almost 20 years. They began to pop up after city officials settled an American Civil Liberties Union lawsuit in 2007 by agreeing to stop enforcing a ban on sitting, lying or sleeping on the sidewalk. More lawsuits, settlements and court rulings led to the entire city and much of the state becoming the site of homeless encampments on sidewalks, streets, freeway embankments, overpasses, underpasses, median strips, parks, parking lots, public plazas, beaches,
