Inflation may have moderated, and the economy is showing signs of healthy growth, but the public remains deeply concerned about both, according to the latest I&I/TIPP poll. The poll found that fully 80% of those surveyed by I&I/TIPP say they are either “very” (45%) or “somewhat” (35%) concerned about inflation. Just 17% say they are not concerned. That’s despite the fact that inflation has averaged just 2.6% this year – which is significantly lower than any year under the Biden administration – and came in lower than expected in July. And while the economy grew a healthy 3% in the second quarter –

Quite simply public opinion remains poisoned by everything they read or hear in the main stream media - TV and news papers. If Kamala were President the public would think Jesus had returned.

I do not understand the constant cry about the economy. Disney theme parks are packed and they are not cheap. Restaurants are packed. Planes are full and airports are crowded with people taking vacations. There is money being spent.

It doesn't help that every bozo who calls himself an economist gets a gig on these news shows. If I'd listened to them and their gloom and doom predications my retirement funds would be zero. Even now, with the Dow comfortably over 45,000 (as of this morning), I'm crossing my fingers but expecting the other shoe to drop.

I think most of these “concerned” people are conflating inflation with still high prices. Inflation is really low while prices remain high, AND they are going to stay there. They are baked into the equation so get used to it. Why should a producer lower prices when people are still buying their stuff. Read reply No.2. It will take a recession where demand declines to get prices down, and a recession will get Democrats back in power because the voters are stupid in thinking that Democrats have better answers. They got us here in the first place!

Most everyone is suffering PTSD from Biden's inflation and it takes time to heal from that. Most know prices are not going to go down from here so the pain we experience every time we buy something is still there and will be there until we adjust to the new level. I lived through the the last round of inflation in the 70s and it took years to get used to those inflated prices that now would look great. Also in many blue states like CA the economy isn't doing well, unemployment is up as are costs. If I was polled I would have to say I'm concerned too.

This is the calm before the (good) storm. In addition to all the tariff and trade stuff that President Trump has laid down, the big two that are going to put the pedal to the metal will be the tax cuts next April from the Big Beautiful Bill and, before that, Drill Baby Drill. The national average price/gal at the moment (including all the taxed to hell states like CA) is about $3.15. Because gasoline prices seep down to every part of the economy (and psychology), when that drops below, I'm guessing, $3.00 (but especially $2.80 or less) things will really boom.

One of the issues that Trump ran on was the pain the middle class is feeling at the pumps and grocery stores. Until we start seeing changes there, that is an unkept promise. I know it takes time to bring some of this manufacturing back to the US, so it's going to be with us for awhile. But we ought to be able to lower pump prices and we're not doing it.

I am a crafter and was at Hobby Lobby this morning to buy things to make for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Prices are way high and it has to be from tariffs. I saw a door wreath - greenery and 3 or 4 large sunflowers. Thought it was nice, looked at the price and it wa $84.99. Of course it would be 40% off but a couple of years ago that wreath would be - at the very most - $49.99. Speaking of Hobby Lobby. I was also there a couple of weeks ago and the aisles in the holiday area were filled with boxes to be emptied and put on the shelves. Today there were at least as many, if not more, boxes to be unloaded and put on the shelves. They really must be low on people. Got to checkout and there was only one checker, line went back probably 20 people. I need to get all my things from there before the holiday shopping season really starts. It will be unlivable if it continues like it is today. I feel sorry for the workers.

There are two things you can be sure of when it comes to Gavin Newsom. One is that he craves power. Two, he hates his fellow Californians. OK, the second one might be a stretch. But considering what he’s done to the people of his home state, that’s a fairly reasonable conclusion to draw. Newsom has been making headlines these days by “getting tough” with President Donald Trump in ways childish (X with posts written in all caps) and politically poisonous (promising to redraw district boundaries to kill off four or five of the state’s nine Republican seats). With that latter move, Newsom once again shows his disdain for Californians,

Weren’t we assured that Barack Obama went “into and out of office with not a whiff of scandal”? Yes we were. Former Washington Post columnist Richard Cohen told us so, as did many others. But it wasn’t true. There are many, the most recent a claim that Obama, and then Joe Biden, pressured bank executives to deny services to conservatives. It’s a serious charge that, like the Russia hoax, makes Watergate look like a sandbox squabble. Here’s what we’ve learned: Acccording to Fox Business, major bank executives said “they were under pressure by the Obama and Biden administrations to deny services to individuals and businesses for political reasons.”

Earlier this month, Customs and Border Protection recorded fewer than 7,832 illegal border crossings in July. That’s a staggering number when you consider that the 25-year average for that month is 76,000. Even more staggering is that this should never have happened. At least, not if you believed President Joe “Autopen” Biden. For four years straight, Biden and his minions told the American public either that the border was secure, or that the problem was impossible to fix due to Republican intransigence, or some combination of the two. Here, for the record, is a sampling:

Consumers see businesses as partners in transactions they have voluntarily chosen to take part in. They might not always be happy with the exchanges they make, but they generally understand that they are making a tradeoff that benefits both parties.  Policymakers, however, far too often see businesses as endless sources of money to fund their agendas.  On occasion, businesses will reach a breaking point. So they defend their interests, as some in Los Angeles are doing. A coalition has launched a June 2026 ballot measure to repeal the gross receipts tax, which is levied on business revenues, not profits (and is often passed on to consumers in the form of higher prices).
