There were a lot of people focused on a bill that would permit guns on the property of private and religious schools. State senators voted to override Stein's veto of House Bill 193 Tuesday, which would allow certain employees and volunteers at private and religious schools to carry concealed guns on campus, if allowed to by school leadership. Supporters say it provides protections similar to a public school, where there are school resource officers. The average time response time for law enforcement is 14 to 20 minutes,"

I just got back from Salt Lake, where I took my kids to Wheeler Farm in Murray, Utah. Originally homesteaded in the late 1800’s, the 75-acre property was preserved and turned over to Salt Lake County in the 1970’s. It was jarring, in the best way, to see a public space so well-run. Admission is free. Kids walk right up to cows, goats, sheep, and chickens. They climb on old tractors, go on wagon rides, race through open fields. After a busy morning, we bought $2 Uncrustables and $1.50 popsicles from the gift shop and sat for lunch.

We've been reporting just how bad the Democrats' approval/favorability numbers have been. There was the Quinnipiac poll that had Congressional Democrats at 19 percent approval, the lowest in the history of asking the question. Then there was the Wall Street Journal survey that showed the party was 30 points underwater with registered voters - far worse than the Republicans. CNN's data analyst Harry Enten summed up how bad things were for the Democrats. He explained that the CNN poll had the Democrats at 26 points underwater, and he also referenced the WSJ poll. Both numbers were the lowest ever.

Many are surprised when I tell them I'm a baseball fan -- especially a Chicago Cubs fan. The high school I attended was a short walk to Wrigley Field, so I have fond memories of school-sponsored Cubs Days and even ditching class to be a bleacher bum. Second baseman, infielder, and all-around team player Ryne Sandberg was a big part of that. (Snip) Tragically, in December 2024, Sandberg announced that the cancer had returned and had spread to other organs. On Monday, Ryne Sandberg lost his cancer battle. The Hall of Famer is dead at 65.

A 36-year-old married police officer and three other people were shot and killed by a crazed gunman who stormed a swanky Midtown skyscraper early Monday evening — sparking mayhem in Midtown before turning the gun on himself, police said.
