Vice President JD Vance cast two tie-breaking votes in the Senate Tuesday to move forward a $9.4B rescissions package — which would rip federal funding from PBS and NPR — in the upper chamber.
The Senate deadlocked, 50-50, on two procedural votes to start debate on the multibillion-dollar spending clawback package before Vance’s votes advanced the measure requested by the White House.
Three Republicans – Sens. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) – joined all Democrats in opposition to the bill.

Rip? They aren't entitled to it.
'Government broadcasting' and a First Amendment are a contradiction in terms.

I used to enjoy watching some PBS shows very much. Masterpiece Theatre and Nova were my favorites along with some of the Ken Burns series. But as time went on The Message began to creep in and it got under my skin. I used to enjoy some of NPR like Car Talk and the classical music but the condescending tone and the even more strident The Message dominated it to the point where I just quit. I won't miss any of them.

FTA: 'Three Republicans – Sens. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) – joined all Democrats in opposition to the bill.' Who would have guessed? They do have consistency: when they're bought, they stay bought. Or they're terminally stupid. I guess it could be both.

I like some of the PBS programs but if the programs are popular some network will pick them up if PBS goes under and it they don't, so what, I watch too much TV anyway.

Once again the egomaniacal America haters self identify.
If it wasn't for their opposition to everything good they wouldn't be known for anything.

Lisa and Susy are lost causes. But, Mitch, you have been the most backstabbing, non-conservative, unprincipled, two-faced scoundrel of a politician in the 21st century. From majority leader to minority leader (your preferred status), you have mumbled your way to the depths of disdain. Please, you’ve already announced this is your last term: Just resign and go away. The people of Kentucky would be grateful.

By the tone of his piece, Nava sure thinks Collie was right by voting no. The usual cast of characters, Turtle, Murkie, and Collie, are a blight on the republican party. Most glad that VP Vance stepped in to break the tie.
I wouldn't miss NPR if it were to go away. It is nothing more than a dim propaganda mouthpiece. As for PBS, I'm not a PBS junkie. I guess PBS will need to hold more moochathons to pay its way.

There will be cries of "No more Sesame Street "! Judging by the store shelves full of Sesame Street merchandise and books, I think they will be just fine. Like all other television shows, if the show is good and there is an audience, it will continue. If not, it gets canceled. That's entertainment. Now PBS can just start officially selling ads and having commercials instead of "sponsors". Their scam is over.

Seriously? Antiques Roadshow... known for a bit of fraud... both here and in the UK. Anyway, you can watch old episodes on Youtube. PBS and NPR are nothing but leftist propaganda disguised as educational entertainment. No more supporting their leftist garbage with our tax dollars. Good bye and good riddance! In 2025, there are a gazillion other options.

NPR/PBS/CPB were created back when there were only three channels on your TV set. It's not 1969* anymore. There are so many sources of entertainment , children shows, etc that the need for PBS expired a couple of decades ago. It's bad enough the US Taxpayers subsidizes so much garbage and waste.
As for Collins, Murkowski and TurtleMan - no surprise there but they are why there should be term limits for both houses of Congress.
*PBS was established on November 3, 1969, by Hartford N. Gunn Jr. (president of WGBH), John Macy (president of CPB), James Day (last president of National Educational Television), and Kenneth A. Christiansen (chairman of the department of broadcasting at the University of Florida).

It got done...squeaking by with JDVance's vote....now why do you suppose Mitch McConnel voted no...he's barely functioning...someone on his staff told him how to vote...and Collins is a rino and always has been...as to Murkowski....she's an enigma ....as to my state...illinois...Durbin is in the pocket of the soros' money ...and the other...forget her name...she was wounded in combat and thinks she deserves to be a senator....

This has been Looong overdue. The federal government originally founded them in the beginning to help them get started. This was a half century ago. In that time numerous independent stations started up and got self sufficient without goverment subsidies. After 50 years they should sink or swim on their own merits.

#7 When our kids were little, and now they are in their forties, we didn't allow Sesame Street. It was already a left wing propaganda starting with the multi color cast of children. So it is good that they will go off the air.

Well, I guess that means even MORE PBS membership drives and Viking River Cruises commercials about getting "ed-oo-cated" and experiencing "cul-chah."
(I really don't mind accents, but how many years have these commercials been running?)

PBS and NPR formats are outdated and completely irrelevant today. Anyone and everyone can create their own program material on YouTube without government funding. PBS and NPR are dinosaurs of another age lingering on buried in mammoth budgets. Probably no member of Congress watches PBS or listens to NPR. Corporations and wealthy people will now have to find another tax deduction. Everything on NPR or PBS can be found with similar content somewhere on the internet, just without my tax dollars funding it.

A little history folks. Picture it a rural WVA kindergarten class in the year of our Lord 1975. Me and a bunch of other 5-year-olds watching Sesame Street on a 30-inch B & W tv screen sitting on a metal rolling case. Which made the tv 7 feet tall. Growing up I loved dhows like Sesame Street, Mister Rogers Neighborhood, The Electric Company (with a young Morgan Freeman) and Zoom. Which was good because back then before we got cable years later my family only had ABC, NBC and PBS. As a got older I loved shows like Firing Line, Nova, Doctor Who and Masterpiece Theater. I never heard of NPR until I got stationed in the Bay Area CA in the early 90s while in the Navy. My boss was a big leftist and that lead me to listening to Rush Limbaugh on the local AM radio station. Years later my own children never had any interest in watching anything on PBS as there were many other shows to choose from on channels like Nickelodeon. Now in the year 2025 it's past time to stop funding networks who's so purpose is to spread leftist propaganda. Also, despite what arrogant, idiotic, dimwitted fake news so-called journalists like Dana Bash think. We backwards, toothless, barefoot, flip phone using rubes (what her ilk think of MAGA Conservatives) in red state flyover country do not need PBS or NPR.
