Zohran Mamdani is running for mayor of New York City at exactly the right time in American history. The confluence of a shattered Democratic Party, an electorate wild for change, and a bitterly divided opposition will make the 33-year-old socialist the next mayor of New York City.
As long as he doesn't self-destruct, that is.
We're going to see if Mamdani can keep his foot out of his mouth in the next three and a half months and avoid making his support of an "intifada" against Jews any larger of a campaign issue than it already is. Otherwise, there doesn't appear to be anything that can stop his election victory.

Part of the problem is that the NYC mayor has much too much power. Vesting the ability to unilaterally appoint every single member of the city's commissions and bureaucratic governance is, quite simply, dangerous. Mandani won't be as most folks understand, just a mayor. He will be a King if elected. This wouldn't be a problem if he had some respect for our Constitution and ideologies of governance. But he is intrinsically at odds with what has made America - America.

That have a range of choices...from 1 to 1. Pack up NOW and move out of the northeast. Divest ALL your holdings in the state of NY. Let the city rot all the way, not just half the way like it is now.

Does this mean in a city as big as New York, they can't find a competent leader to run the city? This guy has no executive experience running a budget that size. Are they wiling to take government run grocery stores and stand in line for hours to buy their food. Haven't they even been to a government office and gotten out of there with there transaction completed in under two hours If this is the case they should never be allowed to vote in a National Election.

Oh, he’ll win. New Yorkers are idiots living in a bubble. Just wait until 80% of the 123 billionaires living in NYC pack up and leave, and take their money with them. Wait until the Trump administration cuts off money to keep the subways running and the lights on. Wait until the first government-owned grocery store opens, and is emptied in three days by looters. The population will drop by 40% in a year.
It ain’t gonna be pretty - but I’m now convinced that it’s necessary.

I don't see a problem here. None at all.
I hope he gets elected and trashes the city and everyone there suffers.
It's the wake up call they need and will show the rest of the left how dumb their ideas are when put into practice. It'll take them 20 years to recover.
Oh and I don't live there or know anyone who does.

It's not inevitable. NY State depends upon taxes from NYC, and if the money train from Grand Central to Albany dries up, then we really will see bloodshed in the streets. The Dems chickens will truly have come home to roost and no money means no welfare, no credit towards city bonds, no fire dept, forget about the service on the MTA (watch the fare skyrocet to $10 a token!). NYC's main resorce is commerce, there's no oil or minerals there. Commerce creates money but only in free markets. With Mamdani in there, kiss it all goodbye. Of course, there are people who make LOTS of money in NYC who'd see the wheels fall off the garvy train and, well, people have been rubbed out for much less.

Do his voters realize that there will be no taxes to pay for their free stuff, and that the stores will close up when they cannot make a profit? Get ready to stand in line for government food handouts.

All those Jewish voters who automatically vote "D" in any election had better wake up. Too many still like leftist ideas but this guy should be a bridge too far even for them. As other have posted, I almost look forward to see what happens to NYC. Perhaps it will be an example for other blue cities as they watch the decline of a once great metropolis.

NYC voters might be dumb or indifferent enough to let him win, but the party might have other ideas. He's saying the quiet parts out loud, and it's not a good look for a party that's already in tatters. Heck, even liberal media is bashing the guy. I wouldn't be surprised if he develops a case of Arkansacide.

Sadly. I expect many NYC Jews to pull the lever for the anti-Semetic Mamandi.
As the great Jewish comic and native of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Jackie Mason, once said, American Jews live like rich white Republicans and vote like poor Black Democrats.

Contradicting an article not 24 hrs ago, said asking the average NY'er what they thought of the guy. Most said he's a lunatic. But here we go - media WANTS him, so they will tell us we do, too. Inevitable? They will shepherd him in alright.

Don't surrender already. This mindless communist jerk has a lot of time left to tangle himself up in his own shorts. Soon enough he will insult everybody including his obese white female fan club. Democrat Socialism sounds like a fun tea party until you understand the methods and the details.

Nobody qualified or intelligent wants to run for Mayor of New York City at this point in time because they realize that the best solution now is to bulldoze it under and rebuild. A few landmarks and institutions may be saved but they are in a similar state as Los Angeles, flat broke with the walking wounded leading the walking dead. Federal aid will not be forthcoming because they defied federal laws to get themselves in the condition in which they find themselves.

Less than 15% of those eligible voted in the primary. The general will bring more voters out.
I agree that multiple other candidates will water down the anti-Mamdani vote and possibly let him win but I would hope/pray that New Yorkers would be a bit smarter than that. Besides, between now and the election at least two of the alternate candidates will fold giving those who are left a fighting chance.

I escaped NY just B4 the Golden Age of Rudy.
But I knew it wouldn't last.
So I'll watch from my Red State as NYC sinks into the quicksand as more people that Hochul said should leave do so.

The problem is that no one running against this socialist appeals to the voters in NYC.
He will likely win a plurality in the midst of low voter turnout.
