ISRAEL says some of Iran's highly-enriched near weapons-grade uranium stockpile survived US bombings during the 12-Day War last month. Doubts remained about whether Iran quietly removed 408.6 kgs of uranium from its most sensitive sites before the strikes - potentially hiding nuclear material elsewhere in the country. The uranium in question is enriched to 60 per cent - way above levels for civilian usage but slightly below weapons-grade.
That material, if further refined to 90 per cent, would theoretically be sufficient to produce more than nine nuclear bombs. An Israeli official told The New York Times some of the uranium stockpile survived the US and Israeli bombings last month

You can't actually destroy the uranium, only bury it or disperse it, both not irreversible.

Secondhand report via NYT and this guy thinks 60% is only "slightly below" 90%. Tjey lost their facilities with thousands of centrifuges. It will be a while.

If Israel needs to strike again, now is the time to do it.

#4. Enriching to 60% is the hard part. It becomes much more efficient after that point and you can use much less sophisticated machinery.
But, yes, the preferred method remains centrifuges.

All of the enriched uranium survived the attack. Some/most/all of it is buried 200 feet down, but it is still there. Some of it exists as gaseous hexafluoride, making access risky/deadly. Assessments suggest significant losses to all parts of Iran’s weapon program. Could the mullahs rebuild a nuclear program? Sure…could it be demolished again? It’s easier to destroy than it is to build.

Why not just remove the Iranian government from power?

I thought we ran out of Thadd and patriot missiles defending Israel, not they want to bomb again. Why are we responsible to fund everybody's war and get more in debt.

This should have been predictable. You cant keep the war going on forever if you completely destroy the boogeyman.

FTA: The source said any attempt to recover it would be detected by the Israeli intelligence and that Israel would have enough time to attack again if the regime tries to recover it.

I'll wait for President Trump to tell me just how effective his bombing was...the fake news wants to keep this narrative alive for reporting an ongoing drama....Iran is all about publicity and propaganda....so I don't believe this until President Trump says it's so....if it's been moved....tell US where to and then WE'll bomb the crap out of it....Israel's Mossad are on top of this...and will finish any job set in front of them....

"War in the Middle East" has been a thing my whole life. Over many decades I've learned that things happen because someone benefits from it. That's just the way the world works. And usually it's driven by money, which is just a proxy for control. Control is the real human commodity, the thing every single person desires.
So if Iran' nuclear program is the Big Problem, that justifies ongoing War Against Evil, well then that program has to continue. If we had the ability to take a giant scoop, lift the whole entire program out, and drop it into the sun, it wouldn't be the end of it. No, there would be a refrain to remain vigilant, to buy a lot of expensive weaponry because, well, there might be a problem in the hypothetical future.
Too many people profit from war for it to ever be eliminated. The politicians, and the Stark Industries, of the world will work to keep it simmering forever. (They do not want actual nuclear war though, because that would shatter the world's money conveyors. No, low-level ongoing conventional war makes the most money for the right people.

4,
In terms of the process, getting to 90% from 60% is far far easier than getting to 5% from 2%. It is not a linear function. 60% is 2/3 the way to 90%. 2% is 40% of the way to 5%.
And as others have said, uranium is an element.
The whole POINT of the strikes is to ensure that Iran CANNOT DESTROY their uranium because it can only be destroyed as a result of nuclear fission. All we can do is disperse it and make the Iranians start all over again. Like a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle that was 60% finished... all we can do is scatter the pieces and make them start all over again.

This is the problem with early pronouncements like "Mission Accomplished" or "Heck of a job, Brownie." How about instead, "The bomb damage was extensive. Subject to further review, we do not think there will be a need to return to the sites."
