Pope says Ukraine should have 'courage

Pope Francis has said in an interview that Ukraine should have what he called the courage of the "white flag" and negotiate an end to the war with Russia that followed Moscow's full-scale invasion two years ago and that has killed tens of thousands. Francis made his comments in an interview recorded last month with Swiss broadcaster RSI, well before Friday's latest offer by Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan to host a summit between Ukraine and Russia to end the war. Erdogan made the fresh offer after a meeting in Istanbul with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

Too late. They should have tried negotiating when they were holding their own and doing much better than trying to hold on to collapsing lines and losing ground across a huge front they can't defend. But at least the Big Guy got his 10% even if he can't remember getting it.

What's the alternative for Ukraine? They don't have the people or the arms. And maybe the Pope figgered out that the U.S. is going to stop being the ATM for their corruption and their war. Better now than later. Also, he may figure that the orange man will get in and stop the whole, bloody charade.

Remember this is a very socialist oriented Pope who is only considered to be infallible when he is following Church dogma, and attempting to interfere in the Russia-Ukraine War is not Church dogma. Neither is the Pope telling his followers, like Biden, that they should open international borders of developed countries to all irregular migrants (illegal aliens) from the Third World, so that those irregular migrants can live better lives.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed a measure allowing the new Prosecuting Attorneys Qualifications Commission to start its work. Senate Bill 332 allows the commission, created last year with Senate Bill 92, to adopt internal guidelines and rules. It also circumvents a November state Supreme Court administrative order that found approving the commission’s standards of conduct was outside its authority. “This legislation will help us ensure rogue or incompetent prosecutors are held accountable if they refuse to uphold the law,” Kemp, a Republican, said during a brief Wednesday press conference. “As we know all too well, crime has been on the rise across the country,

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed a law Wednesday that lets a state commission begin operating with powers to discipline and remove prosecutors, potentially disrupting Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ prosecution of former President Donald Trump. “This legislation will help us ensure rogue and incompetent prosecutors are held accountable if they refuse to uphold the law,” Kemp said before signing the bill, flanked by Republican legislative leaders. “As we know all too well, crime has been on the rise across the country, and is especially prevalent in cities where prosecutors are giving criminals a free pass or failing to put them behind bars due to lack of professional conduct.”

Friday is the close of a self-imposed two-week deadline set by Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee for his consequential decision that could alter the course of Georgia’s historic election indictment. After weeks of testimony following the revelation of allegations that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis was dating Nathan Wade, one of the case’s top prosecutors, McAfee will have to decide by close of business on Friday whether to remove Willis and Wade from the case. Attorneys for several defendants filed a motion in January alleging that Willis had been paying Wade while the two were dating and embarking on cruises and vacations together while prosecuting the case.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stressed on Tuesday that conquering Rafah was essential to winning the war against Hamas. In a video address to the AIPAC conference in Washington, D.C., Netanyahu said, “To win this war, we must destroy the remaining Hamas battalions in Rafah. If not, Hamas will regroup, rearm and reconquer Gaza and then we’re back to square one. And that’s an intolerable threat that we cannot accept.” He then restated the three war goals set forth by the government “We will destroy Hamas, free our hostages and ensure that Gaza doesn’t ever pose a threat to Israel again.”

A Massachusetts town that adopted an unusual ordinance banning the sale of tobacco to anyone born in the 21st century is being looked at as a possible model for other cities and towns hoping to further clamp down on cigarettes and tobacco products. The bylaw — the first of its kind in the country — was adopted by Brookline in 2020 and last week was upheld by the state’s highest court, opening the door for other communities to adopt similar bans that will, decades from now, eventually bar all future generations from buying tobacco.

New York City shelters are overwhelmed with migrants. Many of them have arrived in Texas or Florida and then taken buses to New York, where shelter and benefits are guaranteed. However, the city is scrambling as the number continues to climb and the migrants look to build a new life in America, which includes housing and work. But for companies like Tyson Foods Inc., struggling to fill unpopular jobs with a U.S. unemployment rate of 3.9%, this new population presents an alluring opportunity. The food processing company wants to hire 52,000 asylum seekers for factory jobs, offering a starting wage of $16.50 per hour along with benefits.

Joe Biden won the normality test in 2020. There wasn’t anything remarkable about him. Senator Bernie Sanders believes it is long past time the United States moves away from a 40-hour workweek and establishes a 32-hour standard workweek without reducing workers' pay. The Vermont senator introduced legislation that would do just that. But his proposal is already being met with stiff opposition across the aisle. The Thirty-Two Hour Workweek Act would reduce the standard workweek in the United States from 40 at 32-hours over four years while maintaining worker pay. It would also require overtime pay and a half for workdays longer than 8 hours and overtime doubling pay for workdays longer than 12 hours.
