Senator Bernie Sanders believes it is long past time the United States moves away from a 40-hour workweek and establishes a 32-hour standard workweek without reducing workers' pay.
The Vermont senator introduced legislation that would do just that. But his proposal is already being met with stiff opposition across the aisle.
The Thirty-Two Hour Workweek Act would reduce the standard workweek in the United States from 40 at 32-hours over four years while maintaining worker pay. It would also require overtime pay and a half for workdays longer than 8 hours and overtime doubling pay for workdays longer than 12 hours.

So Bernie, a famous economist, want to cut American productivity by 20%. That sounds like a great idea, something a never had a job Bernie would come up with.

Probably not the greatest idea when AI and robots are getting smarter and cheaper. Just saying...

Democrats have been openly pushing the "Zero-Day Work Week" for decades, starting with LBJ and the "Great Society." There are now 5 generations living within every major U.S. city, who are responsible for 90% of all violent crime.

Since Bernie only works, on average, one day every three weeks, he thinks a 32 hour work week is akin to slavery. Bernie is a dope.

Work week? Work?
Hey - - those archaic concepts are as outdated as the typewriter. Let's ban all "work" - - and let the money flow - - and let the good times roll!

More employees to cover the missing hours means more loaded cost for the business. Of course less that 40 hours don't not always come with benefits.

Bernie seems to forget about places like nursing homes, hospitals, and other businesses that operate 24 hours per day, 7 days per week 365 days per year. What do they do? They will need to hire more staff to cover the hours that the current staff will now not be required to work in order to avoid overtime costs. This assumes that they are able to actually find staff, as nobody currently wants to work thanks to all of the other idiotic government ideas to "help" people. Businesses like mine would simply close up shop as we would no longer be able to afford to operate as 90% of our expenses are payroll related and rates are set by the government (and they will not adjust rates for things like Bernie's idiotic idea).

It's always somethin'-for-nuthin' with these guys. But of course employers will have to hire more. We have a couple million suddenly extra idle workers with nothing else to do. And they're dangerous.

Communists and Socialists must find a way to bring America down … why not make it a 16 hour week at the same pay?
Perhaps we can only hire workers who can work with one hand tied behind their back. Hmmm … will illegals (compliments of Democrats) demand much less salary for that same job? Buenos Dias amigos! Better that they have something to DO to earn their welfare, than commit crimes, eh?

OKfine...so on those other 3 days a week, where EVERY business is then closed?
What are all of those "Workers" you just "Helped" gonna do? Where will they Shop? Bank? Doctors will be closed as well...Go to the ER for everything?
No schools open? Colleges too I guess, No teachers, no workers, no classes.
Busses trains, Planes, Taxis not working.
Oh, Cops and Firefighters too?
I was in the Carpenters Union...while the RULES they negotiated meant that NO ONE could be forced to work more than 8 hrs..The Contracts they negotiated required us to work 5 10's, 6 10's was actually "Expected", and particularly close to the completion of projects they really pushed us hard to come in on Sundays as well.
He has been in the Senate too long...He thinks Senate Hours, with 3 day weekends off should be the Norm...even though they didn't even finish a flippin Budget on Time, and are already 6 months late on it.

I swear the people are insane.
They would work people less hrs which means they would have to hire more people which means the cost of everything would go up.

Americans do work too much, to the detriment of our physical, mental, and spiritual health. However, we do not need the government to get involved in the work / life balance. Politicians have no particular expertise in running businesses; many of them have never even had a job in the private sector.
Boeing does something smart: They close the production units for two weeks for Christmas and New Year. That is less expensive than trimming a day off the work week.

Just what we need as our debt becomes more than 100% of our GDP: reduced productivity. There sure are a lot of people in power out to destroy America.

Forty- hour work week is not hard. I think of how our ancestors would work from sunup to sundown before all of our modern conveniences. We are turning into a nation of wimps. How much Netflix does one want to watch?

I despise it when someone who has never run a business tells business owners what to do.
When Trump is elected in November, his first act should be to revoke Bernie's citizenship and send him to Russia. Then he becomes Putin's problem.

And what I mean by my statement is Democrats are taking our country from exceptionalism to excuses and exploitation. Our forefathers and foremothers would be embarrassed at how unmotivated we are. What was once a very strong work ethic has now turned into just the opposite. How sad. . .

Where I work, we do a four day work week in the summer. But we come early, take a short lunch and leave later so we work the same number of hours. It's a university and the summer classes are all on line. That lets up with paperwork, inventory etc. It's nice but we can't do it during the regular semester.
