A Massachusetts town that adopted an unusual ordinance banning the sale of tobacco to anyone born in the 21st century is being looked at as a possible model for other cities and towns hoping to further clamp down on cigarettes and tobacco products. The bylaw — the first of its kind in the country — was adopted by Brookline in 2020 and last week was upheld by the state’s highest court, opening the door for other communities to adopt similar bans that will, decades from now, eventually bar all future generations from buying tobacco.

I don't support smoking but the level of tyrannical entitlement, short-sightedness and sheer stupidity is just breathtaking.

You see...the New Puritans are better than the rest of us.
Thats why they are in charge.
And yes, that is the way they see the world.
They are here to re-mold personkind into better beings.
After they enrich themselves,of course...

If they can apply this to tobacco, why not firearms, or gasoline engines, or?

Considering that Brookline is not that big an enclave municipality surrounded by Boston, tobacco purchases can be made by walking a few blocks or while gassing up. This ordinance just hurts business in Brookline.

There hasn't been much more than TREASONOUS scum from Massachusetts ever since the Kennedy clan took over and Jack and Bobby died. Ted was a complete disaster, let alone murderer. The Marxist Warren...Garbage.
The law is unconstitutional on it's face, but Massachusetts Supremes couldn't care less... You know "the Thing" doesn't count in Massachusetts!

There are far too many people who feel qualified and compelled to tell other people what to do. Mind your own business and let other people mind theirs.
I notice the drug dealers are still not requiring age verification.

#3,Firarms are already banned in Brookline. In MA you need a class A concealed carry permit to own or posess a firearm, ammunition, empty shells or any part of a firearm. The issuance ofvthat carry permit is solely up to the town chief of police. He can deny for any reason, or no reason at all. The Chief of Police in Brookline has never, and never will issue a permit to anyone for any reason.
There are several towns in MA with like minded police chiefs.
I don't know how this has not reached federal courts, clearly unconstitutional but right now its the law in MA.
Also, by law, in MA you have no right to self defense. It is not allowed as a legal defense in court.

I grew up in a wet city within a dry county in Kentucky. The liquor stores here did a booming business since the people in all the surrounding dry towns would come here to buy booze. Also, for a long time the sale of certain types of fireworks was banned in Kentucky. People would drive to the Tennessee line to buy them.
Brookline will try, but I think those who want to smoke or vape will find a way.
BTW, I hate smoking with a passion but some people like a couple of my siblings are hooked.

Brilliant! If teenagers didn't buy cigarettes, they would have to raise the price to $25 per pack to pay their lung cancer settlement off. No wonder the black market for cigarettes is thriving.

# 10: Brookline is violating the '22 SCOTUS decision in NYSRPA II v. Bruen. 'In a 6–3 decision, the Supreme Court ruled that New York's law was unconstitutional and that the ability to carry a pistol in public was a constitutional right guaranteed by the Second Amendment.'

It applies nationally.

How does this not violate the 14th amendment?
Legal adults born before 2000 can still buy tobacco there.

And the bylaw can be reversed after the next election. Personally, I don't give a hoot what a MA town does. The whole NE quadrant of the country is populated by a bunch of loons and one Neanderthal.
