Four score and seven years ago our fathers
brought forth on this continent a new
nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated
to the proposition that all men are created equal.

Today is the anniversary of the birth of America’s great or greatest president, Abraham Lincoln. As a politician and as president, Lincoln was a profound student of the Constitution and constitutional history. Perhaps most important, Lincoln was America’s indispensable teacher of the moral ground of political freedom at the exact moment when the country was on the threshold of abandoning what he called its “ancient faith” that all men are created equal.

In tribute to President Lincoln, pasted below are some of his timeless, meaningful, words of wisdom.
America
My dream is of a place and a time where America will once again be seen as the last best hope of earth.
We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution.
Don't interfere with anything in the Constitution. That must be maintained, for it is the only safeguard of our liberties.
At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.
America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.
Elections/Politicians
Standing as I do, with my hand upon this staff, and under the folds of the American flag, I ask you to stand by me so long as I stand by it.
A statesman is he who thinks in the future generations, and a politician is he who thinks in the upcoming elections.
Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.
We cannot have free government without elections; and if the rebellion could force us to forego, or postpone a national election it might fairly claim to have already conquered and ruined us.
Elections belong to the people. It's their decision. If they decide to turn their back on the fire and burn their behinds, then they will just have to sit on their blisters.
Faith/Foundation
I know that the Lord is always on the side of the right; but it is my constant anxiety and prayer that I and this nation may be on the Lord's side.
Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves; and under the rule of a just God, cannot long retain it.
Our defense is in the preservation of the spirit which prizes liberty as a heritage of all men, in all lands, everywhere. Destroy this spirit and you have planted the seeds of despotism around your own doors.
To stand in silence when they should be protesting makes cowards out of men.

I always liked Lincoln's quote (paraphrased from memory) Slavery is the proposition that you will work, and I will eat. LBJ revived that with the Great Society, and other entitlements followed. I don't mean those that are truly incapable of work or self support.

CREATED equal in rights before the law and in job OPPORTUNITY. NOT equal outcomes, which depends on effort, brain power and consistency.
"Equity" is a total crock. You deserve an equal chance, NOT an equal result.

I dont share the admiration for Mr Lincoln. Among other abuses, his big contribution was similar to the crips an bloods. If you try to quit the gang, he will kill you.

Lincoln was probably the smartest POTUS. He had only one year of formal schooling. He used the money he made as laborer to buy books which he read and taught himself the law and became a lawyer. He bought a copy of Euclid's Elements because he wanted to teach himself how to think. He had a photographic memory and could quote long passages from the Bible and Shakespeare. His Gettysburg Address is easily the greatest speech in American history. But a lot of it is wishful thinking. When the country was founded slaves, American Indians, women and others weren't allowed to vote. The reason we sought freedom from England is we were tired of being taxed to death by England. Lincoln was our tallest POTUS at 6 feet 4 inches. He still towers above most of the others. Happy Birthday Abe.

Lincoln recognized the incompatibility of b lacks and other races and encouraged freed slaves to migrate to Liberia which Madison established for the purpose of a homeland for them.

Lincoln may be the worst president of all time! How dare he wage war on states for simply wanting to secede from a union they had voluntarily joined? Slavery? Yes, it was horrible. How long do you think the CSA would have survived being isolated from the North, until they agreed to end slavery? No need to kill hundreds of thousand Americans to achieve that. It was always assumed a state could sever ties with the "United States," until Lincoln wage war on those who did. After you kill so many fellow Americans, it's so much easier to ignore other parts of the Constitution. It was the beginning of the end.

Lincoln put many reporters in prison for reporting thingsvthat he didn't want to be reported.
Yet he is revered when otgers who did or do the same are slandered.

Again, the same ole same ole folks dislike the facts being reported even well over a hundred year later. I do not question President Lincoln was a moral man and think to myself had he lived we would be a different country... but I do know what happened to my own ancestors in my own state.. men with no slaves, and very little property. Simple honorable men who simply loved their homeland who were beat into the dust by our Federal government.

In remembrance of this treasured president, taking a few minutes to read his eloquent, compassionate “Gettysburg Address” delivered on November 19, 1863 at the dedication of the National Cemetery at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania in tribute to those who fought and died at that site in one of the decisive battles of the American Civil War (July 1-3, 1863) may be appropriate and occasion for personal and national reflection. ~~~ “Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. ...”
