Florida Democrats scored a win Tuesday after they flipped a state House seat in a Central Florida district.
Democrat Tom Keen, an aerospace executive, beat Republican Erika Booth, an Osceola County school board member, to fill Florida’s state House 35th District, which includes portions of Orange and Osceola counties, 51 percent to roughly 49 percent. The seat was held by former Rep. Fred Hawkins (R), but he vacated it last summer to become president of South Florida State College. Decision Desk HQ noted the district’s political crosswinds; In 2022, Hawkins clinched the seat by nearly 11 points, but President Biden won it by 5 points in 2020.

The Florida Senate is advancing a bill to regulate the use of artificial intelligence in political advertising.
Lawmakers say AI is growing at a rapid pace, and that the government has to act fast to stop people from abusing its capabilities. The biggest problem, experts say, is that it’s becoming harder to determine what’s real and what’s AI.
“The technology that uses this content has advanced rapidly and outpaced government regulation,” said Sen. Diceglie.Senate Bill 850, sponsored by Senator Nick Diceglie, (R) St. Petersburg passed the Ethics and Elections Committee on a 5-3 vote. It requires a disclaimer on political advertisements that utilize artificial intelligence

The U.S. military fired another wave of ship- and submarine-launch missile strikes against Houthi-controlled sites Wednesday, U.S. Central Command said, marking the fourth time in days it has directly targeted the group in Yemen as violence that ignited in the wake of the Israel-Hamas war continues to spill over in the Middle East. The strikes were launched from the Red Sea and hit 14 missiles that the command deemed an “imminent threat.” The strikes followed an official announcement Wednesday that the U.S. has put the Houthis back on its list of specially designated global terrorists.

Some liberal media folks are freaking out again after Donald Trump bulldozed his competition in the Iowa Caucuses Monday, clinching a historic margin of victory over Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley. Trump secured 51 percent of the vote, whereas Ron and Nikki came in second and third with 21 percent and 19 percent, respectively. Either way, it was a landslide win for Trump, which meant some liberal outlets had total meltdowns. MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow had one, albeit more academic, warning how Trump’s primary victory means we’re edging closer to authoritarianism.

China is a serious threat to America’s dominance in the world, and when America’s dominance collapses, so does America’s lovely standard of living. Nothing happening within the U.S., especially on Biden’s watch, will change that. However, China is at very profound risk from its internal problems. The latest one to catch the headlines is China’s continuing and, indeed, accelerating demographic collapse.
China famously instituted its one-child policy in 1979 when it was afraid that its population growth was out of control. Not only did the policy have the effect of lowering the birth rate, but it also decimated the number of female babies being born.

Many people are heralding this speech given by Javier Milei as a confrontation to the mindset of the World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting in Davos.
Because so many people made a similar assertion, I had to listen to it twice, because I just didn’t get that takeaway. I still don’t. The first 10 minutes is an academic review of the history of free-market capitalism; the latter 10 minutes decries the failures of those economic systems who attempted socialism, including his own homeland of Argentina.

Donald Trump won the Iowa caucuses Monday, a crucial victory at the outset of the Republican primary that reinforces the former president’s bond with his party’s voters even as he faces extraordinary legal challenges that could complicate his bid to return to the White House.
The magnitude of Trump’s success is still coming into focus, but the former president’s supporters endured a historic and life-threatening cold snap to participate in caucus meetings that unfolded in schools, churches and community centers across the state.

Diversity equity and inclusion require that groups – rather than individuals – be treated "equitably", and that preferred groups be advantaged in hiring, admissions and other benefits.
This is all part of the DEI attack on meritocracy. DEI demands that individuals be judged by the color of their skin and their identity rather than the content of their character — or their grades.
DEI now demands that schools begin with the goal of achieving equity grading by any means, including non-blind grading, grade inflation or grade abolition. Anything to undercut the equality of meritocratic blind grading that didn't achieve the goals of DEI.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said that federal employees who take part in a planned walkout in protest of the Biden administration’s Israel policy should be fired.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Johnson responded to a story on the planned walkout, expected to take place on Tuesday, by promising to work with House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) to ensure that federal agencies initiate “appropriate disciplinary proceedings” against all participants.

A Georgia district attorney accused of hiring her lover to prosecute former President Trump broke her silence on the controversy, saying she and the prosecutor were targeted because they are black.
“They only attacked one,” Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis Sunday at Big Bethel AME Church in Atlanta. “First thing they say, ‘Oh, she’s gonna play the race card now.’
“But no God, isn’t it them that’s playing the race card when they only question one?”
The comments were Willis’ first time addressing the allegations publicly — but she neither confirmed nor denied the claims lobbed at her and special prosecutor Nathan Wade,

Joe Biden and the Democrats truly take the cake.
Biden is down in the polls to former President Donald Trump, who is the leading GOP candidate. So they're doing all they can to play up the "threat to democracy" from Trump. Now I have no doubt whoever was leading would immediately become "Hitler" to them, because that's how they do things. That's their only play, given Biden has such a horrible record. He has no real accomplishments on which to run.According to an NBC report, the powers that be are already trying to work to put Trump in check. People talk about the deep state.
