Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) is looking into opening taxpayer-funded, city-owned grocery stores in areas in which businesses have pulled out due to rampant crime.
Johnson announced a partnership with the Economic Security Project to look into the possibility of opening city-owned grocery stores. The first step in the partnership will be to perform a feasibility study, but the city did not provide a timeline, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Johnson claimed his administration is “committed to advancing innovative, whole-of-government approaches to address these inequities.”

Great. Government owned stores with no incentive to make a profit. Just like in good old mother Russia. As #6 said. What could possibly go wrong?

So, one of the few retail models that can function in a democRAT rat run hell hole is no customers allowed in the store. The store has window(s) where the customer requests items, the store clerks gather up the items and bring them up to the window.
It would just be delicious if the government used this model.
PS.... Beware of the government cheese.

That's one way to force Socialism: drive out all the businesses and then leave government as the sole remaining source for all needs. Bread lines here we come.

More ways to siphon off government funds into their personal bank accounts. This is guaranteed to be 'pre-failed" and lose millions if not billions of public funds.....just "mysteriously disappeared".
The future news stories can be already written. We KNOW how this will turn out.

Bill de Blasio (NYC), Rahm Emmanuel (Chicago), Jacob Frey (Mpls) Jenny Durkan (Seattle), Ted Wheeler (Portland), Ed Lee (S.F.), Eric Garcetti (L.A.), etc. etc., aren’t black but along with other failed mayors, many of whom are black, they must have something in common. What could it be? I sit with an elbow bent atop a table, chin resting on my fist as I look skyward, deeply in thought. What is it, I wonder, that all these people, black, white and Asian, have in common? There MUST be something!

ah, the commie mayor of Chitown is modeling his city in the Soviet style of domestication and if there is anyone living in Chitown who lived through that in the Soviet Union, I'm sure they'll be pleased to see some old ways of life emerging in a so-called "free" Chicago

It's common knowledge from 100 years ago, that the government is not capable of managing a profitable business. Why? Most never had a real job, and they're only good at collecting and losing what they've collected.

Bold communist move right there. Chase out legitimate business so tyrannical government goons can swoop in, no competition necessary or allowed.
