US grocery prices ticked up in May after dipping in March and April. Inflation in America continued to fall significantly, but rising prices at the supermarket is unwelcome news to those struggling to pay for food. From April to May, adjusted for seasonal swings, grocery prices got 0.1% more expensive, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Consumer Price Index, a key measure of inflation. Menu items got 0.5% in that time. Overall, grocery prices were 5.8% more expensive in May than they were a year ago. Menu prices have risen 8.3% over the past year. Together, food prices jumped 6.7% throughout the year, once again outpacing overall annual inflation

The only good news is that they finally got all those new hens online and eggs are pretty sane now. Everything is higher - because energy is in absolutely everything, and the Dems increased the cost of diesel and gasoline massively. And he dollar has shrunk....been inflated by evil Nancy's $4 trillion of fraudulent handouts.

Everytime I go to the grocery store, I keep looking for that sign that says "Cover Charge $200," because I don't leave there without at least spending that much money.

I don't know what they are buying to get their 5.8%. A few things that I buy at our local 'Wally World' come to mind: The 'store brand' hot dog buns & burger buns used to be $.80, are now $1.38; a 172% increase Coca-Cola 2-liter used to be $1.00, is now $2.68; a 268% increase Store brand cola used to be $.87, is now $1.40; a 62% increase A gallon of milk used to be $2.97, is now $3.68, a 80.7% increase. An aerosol can of R134a refrigerant used to cost $4.90, is now $9.90. a 202% increase I bought a tool, a 3/8" drive 15mm hex extra-deep impact socket a couple weeks ago. The price marked was $9.82, but it rang up as $16 and change... With a Discount! List price was now $25! When I questioned if this was the correct price, the store owner double-checked, then apologized.... the price that rang up was correct, he had not had time to update the prices on the display. The HairSniffer is turning us into the Weimar Republic! ON PURPOSE!!

No question about it, inflation is through the roof. Even if a familiar item has not had too much of an increase, I guarantee the serving size is significantly less.

Funny though, the Fed Reserve Chairman Jay Powell just said today during his presser that inflation is starting to level off therefore a pause in raising interest rates any further can wait a while. But that the Fed will continue to assess if the American economy is being screwed enough or not with high interest rates going forward.

Your point is spot on, #8. Where they get their inflation numbers from beats me. The price of everything — soup, tuna, mustard, cheese, bread, milk, meat, frozen veggies, you name it — has just about doubled in the last year or so. That’s quite a bit more than 7%. FJB.

Not just food. Gas is up, rents are up, mortgage interest rates are up. We reduced the world's energy supply and drove up the price of energy. When you increase the price of energy, the price of everything goes up.

Transitory inflation will last until we have leadership in this country understands basic economics. Considering the entrenched 'public servants' need to keep their gravy train running I do not see that happening any time soon.

When Louisiana Republican Sen. John Kennedy has something to say, he not only says it; the straight-taking Louisianian goes bottom-line as only he can. This headline from the Daily Caller truly caught me by surprise this morning. Most people who read Hot Air and other conservative outlets or watch Fox News were already no doubt aware of the bombshell revelations from the infamous FBI FD-1023 form alleging that Joe Biden took a five million dollar bribe from a Burisma executive in Ukraine while he was the Vice President. But the story has gone virtually unmentioned anywhere else in the legacy media. So far, they have been disappointing on that score. It was amazing to see Attorney General Merrick Garland’s appointed special counsel, Jack Smith, step in front of the cameras and say of the indictment of former President Donald Trump: “No one is above the law.” Which is to say, Jack Smith looked the American people in the eye and straight up lied. It was the stuff of a banana republic. Fact? Joe Biden, who did the same thing with classified documents as Donald Trump — and four times over — is not being indicted. He is above the law. Fact? The indictment of former President Donald Trump amid allegation of “mishandling national secrets” is the natural next phase of the left-wing establishment’s arrogance and corruption. The left has been desperately trying to stop Mr. Trump since he announced his candidacy in 2015. (Recall the made-up Trump Tower-Moscow scandal, the phony Russia-Trump collusion scandal, the made-for-TV impeachment effort, etc.) The constant attacks have eroded Americans’ trust in government institutions, a far bigger problem than the left’s hatred of Mr. Trump. There are several other indictments that should have been announced to reestablish the rule of law.

Appearing on KBLA's Tavis Smiley podcast, West pushed back on the notion his candidacy was potentially "pulling votes away from Biden" and laid into the Democratic Party for its candidate choices. "When somebody chooses to vote for you, you’re not pulling votes away. You see, Biden doesn’t own any votes. He’s got to earn it. He’s got to earn it," West said.

For a century after the Espionage Act was passed by Congress and signed into law by Democrat President Woodrow Wilson, our friends on the left have consistently denounced it as antithetical to democracy. They objected when it was used to jail socialist Eugene Debs in 1918 and continued to condemn the statute 55 years later when the Nixon administration deployed it against Daniel Ellsberg pursuant to the Pentagon Papers. As recently as 2013, the Guardian accused the Obama administration of McCarthyism for using this law to “persecute” whistleblower Edward Snowden.

It’s not every day that a federal judge asks attorneys representing the president if they’ve read their “1984.” Yet Judge Terry A. Doughty did just that last month, invoking the dystopian novel in questioning lawyers for President Biden, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and other officials about their Orwellian conduct. These are the defendants in perhaps the most consequential First Amendment case you’ve never heard of. That case, Missouri v. Biden, has exposed arguably the most extensive mass-surveillance and mass-censorship regime in the history of mankind. In so doing, it has set in motion events that could lead to that regime’s collapse.

The indictment of former President Donald Trump by federal prosecutors is casting a long shadow over the 2024 Republican primary. But the field, widening in response to Trump and chief rival Gov. Ron DeSantis's (R-FL) perceived political weaknesses, appears unsure about how to deal with special counsel Jack Smith bringing criminal charges against Trump, at least over his handling of classified documents, as they simultaneously cast doubt over the Justice Department's independence."Hardcore" Trump voters can rationalize anything, so he will retain much of his support, according to former Republican staffer John Pitney, now a Claremont McKenna College politics professor. In the transactional mindset that governs former president Donald Trump's approach to everything, it makes sense he would seek to attack his leading rival for the Republican nomination for president, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, over the one thing that endeared the latter most to GOP voters: his record during the coronavirus pandemic. But rather than merely dismiss these attacks as a classic Trump tactic—lobbing fallacious claims to enrage opponents while blithely moving on to other attacks and never acknowledging where he has misspoken—the former president has highlighted something that ought to be discussed in 2024. During the pandemic, Republicans hailed DeSantis for being the slowest to lock down his state
