The breakthrough, by Cambridge University and California Institute of Technology experts, could soon provide insights into miscarriages and genetic disorders. However, synthetic embryos are not covered by laws in the UK or in most countries around the world – and come with serious ethical and legal issues. Scientists who were not involved in the achievement have now shared their concerns about the technology, with one calling it 'chilling'.
