Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo is set to formally endorse Democratic Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee for mayor of Houston. Hidalgo is expected to make the official announcement at an event in Mickey Leland Memorial Park on Thursday. The Harris County judge has a strained relationship with Jackson Lee’s main rival for the seat, State Sen. John Whitmire. Whitmire declined to support Hidalgo during her run for re-election last year, even though both are Democrats. Earlier this week, Whitmire announced an endorsement from former Congressman Gene Green. Some of the more notable candidates include: Lee, Whitmire, attorney Lee Kaplan, former METRO board chair Gilbert Garcia, current council member Robert Gallegos,

Lee is a top contender for the stupidest person in politics, but there is a LOT of stiff competition in the race for the bottom spot.

I hope Sheila Two Names wins. If Houston is as bad as they say, she can only manage the further decline. ORH: she’ll be out of the House and we won’t have to look at her hair-hat anymore. (#5 is correct, but then the competition is stiff.)

In Liberty and San Jacinto counties, due north of Houston an hour or so, thosands of acres have been cleared to make space for ICE free sancuary settlements. They'll look a lot like the Colonias, squalid camps in South Texas that have been with us forever. Goodbye, Texas. Nice knowin' ya.

Just so you know, the "County Judge" in Texas is the elected official that chairs the County Commissioners Court, the "legislative " body for the county. Not a judicial post. SJL must have pulled all the graft she could get in DC and now wants to retire back to Houston for the local graft.

#10, because other than in the lie-beral hellholes of Austin and Houston, most of the rest of Texas is solidly conservative. We have a strong conservative governor, and a state legislature that is solidly under Republican control. All the the major state offices have been in Republican hands for years. Abortion is illegal in Texas, while Cubafornia is the "Mecca" for abortion for the full 9 months. They are doing their best to become the Las Vegas of abortion. Pure evil. Any law-abiding citizen can carry a gun in Texas, and yet we have very low gun murder rates. Cubafornia, on the other hand, has some of the most strict gun control laws in the United States, and is responsible for 17% of the gun murders in the country. We have massive freedom in Texas, a booming economy, and the state government sure isn't going to take kids away from parents for not feeding their mental illnesses of "gender identity" -- unlike Cubafornia. Yes, Cubafornia is beautiful. Heck, my husband and I went there on our honeymoon many years ago. But the cost for that is the massive loss of freedom, and dominant fascist lie-beral government. So please stay there, though any solid conservatives are more than welcome in Texas. Just stay out of Austin and Houston, unless you are homesick for Los Angeles...

Isn’t Shelia Jackson Lee that ubiquitous congresswoman, who you would always see standing by the corridor the POTUS would walk through to deliver the annual State of the Union speech to Congress? I mean, every year you could spot the Rubenesque Texas congresswoman standing next to the dorky former New York congressman, Eliot Engel, to greet the current president and get their “attractive” faces on national television. If Ms. Jackson Lee does win the mayor’s race in Houston, I’ll truly miss seeing her “kind” and “lovely”face at the yearly State of the Union speech.

Opposition is in full swing to the Los Angeles Dodgers’ on-field ceremony honoring the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, an organization of “drag nuns” that the Catholic League calls an anti-Catholic hate group. Thousands of Catholics, other Christians, and even some people of the Jewish faith gathered in a parking lot near the Dodgers’ stadium on Friday afternoon to pray ahead of the game. Later, the religious groups marched to Dodger Stadium, shutting down one entryway on Vin Scully Avenue. Weeks of momentous opposition led to the drag nuns being announced on-field to a mostly empty stadium, while receiving some boos from baseball fans in attendance.

During Friday’s CNN This Morning, the network covered 16 young people suing the state of Montana over climate change. Chief climate correspondent Bill Weir portrayed the young people as the heroes of a movie where they attempt to fend off the Republican-controlled government, despite admitting that the lawsuit would not change anything even if the judge ruled in favor of the plaintiffs. The lawsuit merely singled out Montana Republicans and blamed them for the existence of fossil fuel. CNN called it “fascinating” and “such a great story.” The case hinged on the following clause in the Montana state constitution: “The state shall maintain and improve a clean and healthful environment

A hypothetical 2024 poll shows that former President Donald Trump is tied with President Joe Biden in Michigan, a state the Republican won in 2016 but lost in 2020, in a hypothetical general election matchup. The EPIC-MRA poll, released Friday morning, shows Biden and Trump in a dead heat in the Wolverine State at 44 percent apiece. Another 12 percent are either undecided or refused to answer. Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) performs slightly better in a hypothetical head-to-head with the 80-year-old Biden, leading 45 percent to 44 percent. In that matchup, 11 percent of the poll participants are undecided. Trump narrowly won Michigan over twice-failed Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton

Actually trying to learn something from experience rather than confirm one’s priors. It’s almost as if covering everybody’s asses isn’t the sole value. One of the great frustrations I have with most of the Republican candidates for president, especially including Donald Trump, is that they are talking about Donald Trump all the time. The 2020 election is in the rearview mirror, and the 2024 election should be–must be–about America’s future, not whether and how much Donald Trump is being persecuted by his enemies or betrayed by the people that he hired. Trump keeps talking about himself, and everybody else is either talking about Trump or knocking Ron DeSantis. Politically speaking there is a reason why they are doing this–they need to stand out from the pack and to knock down the top two candidates
