“She’s a … Professor!”: Albany
Professor Arrested After Obstructing Pro-Life
Display and Resisting Arrest

“She’s a [expletive] professor”! Those four words screamed by pro-choice protesters could well sum up the issue for the State University of New York at Albany after the arrest of sociology professor Renee Overdyke. At a recent pro-life demonstration, Overdyke unplugged an electric display to prevent students from expressing their opposition to abortion. She then resisted arrest. The question, which we have previously discussed, is where the university should draw the line in the conduct of faculty in preventing free speech.

She is perhaps more in need of Confession to God rather than a protest to verify Abortion.

Ya know -- if you wrote a novel and named your sociology professor character "Overdyke" - a good editor would have you change it as "too obvious". But, Dickens got away with it pretty often.

FTA: Professor Overdyke has now presented Albany with a clear choice. It can confirm that faculty members are accountable to free speech rules or it can confirm that these rules are a mere pretense of principle. Agreed. Neither she nor her radical students give a flying flip about free speech rights for anyone but themselves. Tolerance is a two way street. The dramatics on campus created a toxic environment in which students could not communicate with each other as intelligent adults. Tantrums have no place anywhere in a quality learning environment. Hold the professor and her bratty students accountable for their own behavior, and this nonsense will be far less enticing.

A professor is somebody who has spent a little more time in some classroom learning what the educational establishment deems appropriate for him/her to pass on to gullible students. It is no indicator of either intelligence or good judgement.

I doubt she was arrested for unplugging the sign, but resisting arrest is a crime and it should be even if they person wasn't going to be arrested for anything else. Since she is a professor she is promoting the policies of the University therefore the University is also guilty of stopping students from expressing their Right to Free speech. Either they fire the professor of be libel for her actions.

College/University campuses are hugely funded through OUR tax dollars not limited to research grants and tuition loans. Schools which do not protect free speech everywhere in their environ and by faculty and students should be banned from those dollars. All this would end overnight where that true.

Big deal. NOT impressed with 'professors' of any type. Gilligan's Island had Professor Roy Hinkley (aka the Professor) who invented all sorts of gadgets to keep the castaways amused but wasn't smart enough to fix the boat to get them off the island.
