Some antique dealers are taking their booths out of Antiques on Pierce, upset with the lack of response from owners after a vendor raised concerns that a collection of Jim Crow era items on display at the store present offensive, racist caricatures of Black people. Chloe Longmire, who raised the issue, was joined by over a dozen protesters outside the store on Thursday and Saturday, calling for the objects to be donated to museums. (Snip) Billed as the largest antique mall in southeastern Wisconsin, the three-story building houses booths that are maintained by over 100 different dealers. The business started

who is the largest collector of these items...by FAR...that has(or at least had) buyers out scouring to shops, sales and auctions buying them up, and driving the prices up? Oprah.

So, they are offensive if in an antique house, but not if they are in a museum? If a museum would be interested, they may be willing to buy ($) them from you.

Okay, so just exactly is not racist? Come on now, clarify. Of course what's not today, will become tomorrow for a race hustler. Why not just go back to the days of segregation? Are you all ready for that? Because that's we are heading. If everything is racist, let's just Bulkanize ourselves ASAP.

I would venture to guess that not one protester outside the store has ever bought anything from that store. Why should the store be bothered with people who are not customers anyway?
Let them show their ignorance and in a few days the will leave.

Good luck to the antique dealers who closed up shop. They have the right to go out of business.

I would just say 'Yawn' and move on but who knows what they will be zeroing in on next. The next thing you know will be biscuits and gravy will be racist because blacks either had to cook them or eat them in years past. This is just getting tiresome. For all my long life if I didn't like something I just moved on. Wish these butt hurts would do the same thing.

The destruction of history means that what was does not get to inform what is. The cyclical nature of history parallels the cyclical nature of human behavior. To erase history is a futile effort to erase human nature. Once gone, once denied, then those who destroy it get to write a new history. We are living this nightmare right now.

History isn't to be erased. It's there to learn from and see what was right or not.

The only collectors I have known of such things are black.
I’m Jewish and have collected a number of items from the Shoa.

One person says "part of history". Another says 'racist and degrading'. American culture says both have an equal right of expressing their views. One imposing on another is Un-American. Ignorant, mindless buffoons is a description that can apply to all races. And the fact that this not equally distributed in American society is exactly why SAT and IQ scores are no longer reported by race.

Omg, the left are such insufferable, sanctimonious bores. “When you know better, you do better.” Doing better means adhering to their specifications. It never occurs to these people to simply walk away and not take part. They must be in your face, demanding that you say, feel, think and do as they say.
I had a friend is an excruciatingly, rabid leftist. A former alcoholic who traded alcohol for politics. He has an enormous collection of this antiquated, black paraphernalia. I never could square his collection with his political leanings.

When Elizabeth Warren made her video campaign announcement...(the one where she famously said, "I think I'll get me a beer...") there was a Little Black Sambo cookie jar on top of her cabinet. Talk about racist antiques!

i had a boss who was black about 3 decades back. He collected those 'racist depictions'. The idea was that they were part of his history and he wanted it remembered what people of his color had gone thru in the past. I think it also serves to tell you how far we've come. I'm Catholic... and Catholics used to be hated by the KKK and were targeted for abortion by Margaret SAnger. And of course, now, the FBI.

Well, they started with getting rid of big public statues created in the past that somehow offend their wokeness. Now it comes to wiping out every little existing item from our history that doesn't reflect current sensibilities. At some point, people will be sent to jail for possessing grandma's old quilt that has a confederate flag on one of the patches.

Canceling this stuff won't undo the past. But it will increase the likelihood that the future will eventually repeat the past. So just knock it the eff off already.

Don't lots of African-Americans collect historical antiques depicting black Americans in stereotypical ways or manners even if "politically incorrect" ? There's a market for all kinds of stuff depicting anyone and everyone in negative ways. It's called History. Do "African-Americans" make fun of or disparage white people also? Probably, but they won't admit it.

African Americans are probably the largest market for collecting this material. It is a legitamate and respected subject in the collecting world. African Americans have a vested interest in preserving their history warts and all. It is not a racist e cercise and not a victimhood statement. Is is a demonstration of how far we have come, a reminddr of victories in the civil rights movement that mattered. It is not about the victimization, it is about the triumph.
The greatest crime the race hustlers have committed against African Americans has been stealing their story and turning a triumphant story of a people who rose from chattel slavery to the solid middle class and beyond in less than 5 generations into a tale of endless victimhood and defeat. For that alone the Jesse Jacksons and Al Sharptons of the world should be treated as the self aggrandizing monsters they really are.

Black people who are offended by those antiques can always buy them up and then destroy them. That way, the seller doesn’t incur the financial loss for your fake taking of offense. The black people can always use some of their $360-million California reparations shakedown money.
Incidentally, where do I go to complain about all the BLM signs I see everywhere?

"It is OUR shared history, not just a Black thing! History is not there for you to like or dislike. It is there for you to learn from it And if it offends you, even better. Because then you are less likely to repeat it. It is not yours to erase or destroy." While the protestors may not like the items, they a antiques or historical items. They reflect a period in our history that will not be repeated but must also be remembered. Whether it is in a museum or purchased in an antique store for a private collection does not matter. Making sure that the history is not erased because some sensitive people today are offended by the past is what matters.

The Complaining/protesting Lady was setting up HER "New" booth space, (there are over 100 booths).
She doesn't sell "Antiques" or even vintage stuff....she makes and sells T-Shirts.
She needs to be moved to a flea market....decent Antique venues do not even rent spaces to folks like her.

This isn't stuff I have any interest in buying but the protesters want to control what others sell. And of course it won't stop there, since Wokesters will find an endless supply of politically incorrect items in an antique store.
