A global Ukrainian group is protesting the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' nomination of “Top Gun: Maverick” for multiple Oscars, including best picture, citing its concerns over the film’s alleged ties to a Russian oligarch sanctioned by Ukraine. While acknowledging the academy’s “long‐standing support of Ukraine,” the Ukrainian World Congress, a nongovernmental organization, sent a letter to Academy President Janet Yang and AMPAS' board of governors on Monday, asking them to explicitly reject films funded by “Russian oligarchs or other enablers of Russia’s genocidal war on Ukraine” and to "review eligibility" of “Top Gun: Maverick,” starring Tom Cruise

It’s getting easier to despise the ukes: impeached our president, draining resources Americans need, paying the bidet family, and now woking at us. Or did putin do this to inculcate annoyance with the ukes? Only Sleepy Schmoe knows.

The Oscars already have put in a requirement that BIPOCs, etc. have to have a certain representation in cast and crew. Now these dolts want to add another qualification unrelated to the quality of the picture. Top Gun Maverick was the biggest moneymaker of the year, by a margin of over $260 million. Go ahead and disqualify it. It would be the last nail in Oscar's coffin.

"Top Gun: Maverick" should not have been nominated for an Oscar. Not because of any alleged ties to a Russian oligarch. It was simply an awful movie.

President Biden unveiled his proposed budget for fiscal year 2024 on Thursday, which in part took aim at billions of dollars of tax subsidies the White House said benefit the fossil fuel industry. According to the White House, the proposed budget would strip $31 billion worth of "special tax treatment" for oil and gas company investments in addition to other fossil fuel tax preferences. The release further criticized oil companies for raking in record profits last year and for failing to invest in greater energy production. President Joe Biden released his budget on Thursday, vowing to cut $3 trillion from the federal deficit over the next decade, in part, by levying a 25% minimum tax on the wealthiest Americans. Biden also raises more revenue by increasing taxes on oil and gas companies, hiking the corporate tax rate to 28%, up from 21% imposed under former President Donald Trump but below the 35% tax pre-2017, and allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices. With Biden likely to run for re-election in 2024, his budget is also a preview into his platform as a candidate and campaign pitch in the year ahead.
