California's reparations task force held its second in-person meeting on Saturday, where members of the public were allowed to give comments as the state legislature considers whether to implement a reparations program for descendants of Black slaves, and what that program would look like. Hundreds of passionate people spoke in the two meetings on Friday and Saturday, voicing their support for cash payments to Black Americans, or grants of land or other compensation. Some called for a renewed Freedmen's Bureau — referring to the Reconstruction-era federal agency Congress tasked with providing food, medical aid, clothing and other needs to newly freed

The People’s Republick of Kalifornia was never a slave state.
California state law and policies over the years resulted in institutionalized discrimination against Native Americans and Chinese.
If anything, the state should be looking at addressing its wrongdoings against these folks.

Just add it to the liberal debt tab and have the taxpayers sort it out down the road.
As the working, non-radical liberals of that state realize the future, many more will add to the mass exodus of Kalifornia.

The American taxpayer has been paying reparations for the past several decades in the form of free housing, free healthcare, free food, free telephones, free education, free transportation, preferential treatment in education, job placement, governmental contracting, etc., etc. What have we received for all our efforts----dumbed down education systems, corrupt decaying cities, drugs pushed on our children, murder, rape, and property destruction. It is easy for this Mayor Idiot to support reparations; he's buying votes from blacks and it's not his money. If any group deserves reparations it is the long-suffering white people of today.

These are evil, crazy people. They are driving hate and racism, and trying to give away money that isn't theirs to give.
There are NO PEOPLE who are owed ANYTHING at all from a situation which ended 158 years ago. There are no slaves, there are no slave owners, there is no one who is owed ANYTHING.
Blacks today have never had anything but special treatment, called affirmative action, being treated BETTER than others .....that affirmative action is the only systemic racism that has been in existence for at least 70+ years. The overwhelming majority of blacks alive have had SPECIAL TREATMENT their whole lives, NOT any sort of oppression.
This whole reparations thing is just a money scam without any basis in facts.
And it is evil, driving hate and racism. Hating people for something that may have been done by people they never knew over 150 years ago is literally insane. Plus, large numbers of blacks today are decended from slave owners......and they expect reparations? For being descended from slave holders......and NOT descended from slaves?
Insanity. Skin color is ZERO indicator of any particular connection to slaves or slave holders.

Maybe those same people should read about what Reconstruction Era was, and did.
Then, read which group (clue - Democrats) wanted to end it.

Only economically illiterate liberals could come up with insane ideas such as this. Leaving aside the fact that no one alive in this country was ever a slave, and only a handful can possibly make the claim that maybe their parents were. Secondly, we do not, in this country, visit the sins of our great great grandparents on their great great grandchildren. And, do I get credit for the fact that my ancestors fought against slavery?
Regardless......... There will be immediate consequences. Number 1, inflation. That much cash dumped into a community that historically wastes money will cause prices to go up. Wages will also go up because many of these people will no longer seek employement.....until the cash quickly runs out. (They will be shocked to discover that 360K doesn't go very far, which is why it won't be enough). 2. This boondoggle has to be paid for. When the wealthy and small business get hit with the increase taxes, they will move out or shut down. 3. More people will as a result of the second consequence, find themselves unemployed. 3. With higher rates of unemployment, more government services will be needed and have to be paid for. Resulting in cut services and higher taxes. More people and business will leave the state.
Go ahead and implement this, and watch your state go into an economic death spiral. In short order, California will look like Detroit from Tiburon to San Diego. They only people left will be those with their hands out.

My Italian and French-German grandparents on both sides arrived at Ellis Island in the early 1900's, 50 years after slavery. was abolished in the US.
One grandfather worked in the Pennsylvania coal mines and died of Black Lung. The other grandfather managed to open and run a bakery in Brooklyn, where he and his 9 children worked the bakery and counter for long hours.
My wife's grandparents have a very similar story and time frame, except they were of Irish descent.
Why should I be accountable for reparations? My forebears were from Europe, where slavery was not practiced, and only arrived in the USA ~50 years AFTER the Emancipation Proclamation.

Throughout history, all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God. Only He can judge. Who are we to bare historical grudges when instead we can be set free of them in THIS life? That is, 'baggage,' that only burdens down. No one needs to drag such historical burdens around.

My family came to America in 1880, 15 years after the Civil War. Why should I have to pay reparations for slavery? I had a recent DNA test and it showed a tinge of African ancestry. Will this "tinge" qualify me for payments even though I speak clear, unaccented English?

The general population of Californians is stupid as hell. California was never a slave state. It was admitted as a free state as a result of the Compromise of 1850. There were no black people legally held in bondage. California even forbid slavery in its territorial document. So, every taxpayer in California who votes for the criminals that are their government owes nothing to black people.
What are the odds that we can cut California and Oregon from the continent and set them adrift? Maybe Venezuela will pick them up.

Why should descendants of blacks today should get reparations since the ones who should have, are dead. On the other hand, that being the case, the first people to get reparations, should be the native Americans since the white men took their land. As far as the blacks getting reparations, the people who should be paying should be the African blacks who sold them to the slavers on the African coast.

I have watched Steinberg doing great damage to the community and the state for several decades. There is no limit to the amount of taxpayer money he is willing to spend to make himself look magnanimous.
150 years of crime without consequences is your reparations. Now where are my reparations for my ancestors freeing the slaves?

Ironic that these race zealots will have to institute a system of minute race classifications similar to what the Nazis devised to identify who qualified as a Jew. Is 1/32 black good enough? What if your ancestors were black Africans who kidnapped and sold other black Africans to slave traders? What if your ancestors were never slaves? And why California, which never was a slave state?
I suspect if some version of this lunacy passes, the exodus out of California will accelerate exponentially.

Putting aside the financial mess this would cause, how does one prove that they are eligible for reparations? And if some are turned down, will they accept that decision quietly? Yet another Dem vote buying scheme that is half baked.
