I bought a Tesla to help the environment.
Now, I'm embarrassed to drive it

Afew years ago, I bought a used Tesla, not because I’m a car nut but because I had been a hypocrite. For years, I had been outspoken about the dangers of carbon emissions. Yet at the same time, I was driving an old gas-powered heap that got about 25 miles per gallon, and that sounded like a rocket launch every time I turned on the ignition.

Indeed, OP. Anyone should be embarrassed to admit they bought a car to help the environment.
But then, LAT.

One of Musk’s recent tweets seems to apply here: 'Easy to fool people, but it is almost impossible to convince people that they have been fooled'.

There is a part of me hoping the author will choke on his hot-air BS. He suffers from the true scourge of liberalism - a religious belief in unfounded baloney with no personal effort to find out what is real.

This article perfectly captures the modern mental disorder known as “progressivism.”
First, the writer had fallen into the fantasy known as “climate change,” a cultist belief that human activity alone is responsible for long term climate activity.
Second, the writer, apparently a typical Dim devoted to “science,” shows his complete ignorance about the environmental impact of EVs, which impacts in fact are counter to his climate change fantasy.
Third, the writer demonstrates complete intolerance of the political views of others, such that he would make a radical change in his life to avoid any association with such views.
This article encapsulates the distorted, warped views of the modern Left, and shows why they are taking our Country down to a state of Third World banana republic sh!thole.

Where does this nitwit think his electrical energy come from? When pretty boy Newsom tells him he can’t plug in because the grid won’t support the demand, will he blame Trump? He should never be allowed to leave California. His liberal virus should be quarantined.

Follow up to #8’s comments. Exactly right, and unfortunately this shows there is no living with modern leftists, they will not tolerate us normals who mostly just want to be left alone. Theirs is a totalitarian ideology, and they have no qualms about rigging elections, government censorship, political gulags (e.g. J6) to ensure they get their way. Elections are what we used to use to resolve our differences and manage to live together. No more, so we either have oppression or resistance, either of which will lead to be violence. About our only hope for avoiding this is a national divorce or extreme federalism. But leftists don’t want to let us go, they are Mencken’s modern day puritans “ 'Puritanism: The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy.'” And RINOs would rather change the subject to something the US Chamber of Commerce wants. So we are stuck.

I buy a vehicle that works for me, not to make a political statement or to fit in with others.
I sometimes travel more than 400 miles, so charging an electric car would never work for me.
I also would never want to pollute the environment with a huge used up battery one day.
I also don't want to ruin the landscape with lithium mining.
And I am not an idiot - I know that the electricity comes from a source that libs don't like.
So I will keep driving my 2010 Genesis because it is the best car I have ever had. I will be very sad when it break down and I have to replace it with another vehicle.

there once was a time that liberals were concerned about censorship, ALL censorship, but especially government sponsored censorship. Now they just worry that people who disagree with them are heard from time to time. What a complete moron this guy is.

Isn't it amazing how fast and broadly the dark media can trash Mr. Musk and his products? Notice how they amplify the stock price drop. This one jerk's article is about dissatisfaction with THE car of the decade (oh, but one voice is so important) but hundreds of thousands love driving because of its reliability and creativity. Haven't seen too many stories about frozen or failed Teslas with this recent storm. Musk is the new Steve Jobs, if not better. We are so lucky to have his brains and foresight while all around us are maddening, dismal non-elected and elected officials who don't comprehend the big picture.

Aw, poor snowflake. Hey John, if you really feel that way, turn off all of your electricity and live by candlelight. Heat your home by bringing your livestock indoors. They can live on the ground floor. You can live on the second floor. BTW, you better trade your Tesla in for a horse and buggy. Use real horsepower to commute. Go 17th Century John.

If your old car sounded like a rocket launch when started up, then you didn't take care of the car or have it serviced. Even 25 year old cars when properly maintained put out virtually no emissions.

What a jerk! I thought maybe he would cite the fact that children are mining in horrendous conditions in Africa etc. for the minerals needed for Tesla and other electric car batteries. Or the fact that they very very slowly charge in cold weather. Or the periodic fires. None of that.....just a distain for Musk's political views, which look to be Independent at this point. I repeat: what a jerk!

After first reading the comments posted here, I just had to read the column. He had me laughing at how stupid and ridiculous he is. I mean, he is really into the Kool-Aid! It should be pointed out to these climate change AH's that every EV is powered by coal or other fossil fuel. The laws of thermodynamics state that you don't get something for nothing. But like a previous poster said, you can;t convince people that they were fooled. It's not being convinced that they are wrong, but rather admitting that they are wrong and losing face.

Imagine the whole of the atmosphere is a car trip around the world 40 times = 1 million miles OR A TRIP TO THE MOON AND BACK 2X . All the planet’s additional CO2 that has been added to the atmosphere by the earths natural cycle and a tiny man made amount - since the beginning of the industrial revolution - is only the beginning of the trip from Boston to Albany NY

Dear Mr. Blumenthal,
With all due respect why are you witting in the LA Times if you’re an idiot?
1. The environment does not need saving
2. Why would you think that buying a Tesla would “save” the environment?
I’m glad you have apparently seen the light, at least a little bit, but still…

Electric power of vehicles has been around a very long time. Demanding electric vehicles for everyone is a very bad idea for a number of reasons. Climate change via CO2 emissions is a straight up hoax. CO2 is a very small percentage component of atmosphere and is absolutely vital to all plant life. As far as greenhouse gas goes it is inconsequential. The major greenhouse gas is water vapor. If ALL the CO2 were removed from the atmosphere there would be no effect on the greenhouse effect. If all the daily drivers in the country were converted to battery powered electric the demand would cripple the electric supply in short order.
