We Bet F-150 Lightning's Range Is under 100 Miles when Towing at the Max

Range typically occupies an outsized chunk of the conversation on any new EV. But, in the case of the F-150 Lightning, which has the bestselling pickup's usual healthy scoop of towing and hauling capabilities, things get more complicated.
Ford is claiming that the range figures for its electric pickup will come in at 230 miles and 300 miles, depending on whether the standard-range (which we estimate can hold 115.0 kWh) or extended-range battery pack (150.0 kWh, same caveat) is beneath the bed. Those are EPA predictions, specifically EPA combined figures, in lightly loaded conditions.

In a few years, we will look back and know the "Ford Electric F-150" was the "New Coke" disaster of vehicles!!!!
Woke lie-berals want cute electric cars like the Prius, or super expensive status symbol electric cars like the Tesla.
Hard working men want pick-up trucks to do hard work with. That means gas or diesel. They need to fill them up to the max, haul large trailers full of heavy things, and be able to do that with the power and consistency needed. They need to be able to drive a couple of hundred miles, stop and spend 5 minutes filling up with diesel fuel, and drive a couple of hundred miles more to the work site. They cannot drive 100 miles, stop to recharge their electric trucks for 8 hours, and then finally get to the work site 3 days later!!!
Don't get me wrong, lie-berals are doing everything they can to destroy our economy. This fits in perfectly with that plan. But hard working real Americans are going to revolt -- and it's not going to be pretty -- if they are forced into this insanity!!!

I figured as much when they said the batteries weight 1800 pounds. Five minutes of driving, with three hours of recharging. What a bargain.

Somebody ask them why the truck of the future taking us to the Green New Deal is coal-powered. And how it will ever get there if they are taking all the coal power away. I fondly remember driving past all those dead Teslas when the power was out in Northern CA for about a week.

So? What's the point? Those who buy have likely considered these facets. It's a status/virtue signal vehicle, exactly like the knuckleheads who buy 4-wd and never engage, or "off-road" packages who never leave the pavement. I hope Ford sells them like hot cakes...and doubt they will. They're investment; not mine.

Hey! No problem. Just add a 15KV generator and a 150 gallon gas tank to the tow. You'll look like a train going down the road but you can go probably 200 miles. maybe...

This just in: electric vehicles can't measure up. Just spent a week in the Keys. Couldn't have gotten there and back in that truck, Probably not even there.

I have two small cars, neither one with four-wheel drive.
But, at $70,000 and then a $50,000 gov't rebate, I could get one of these for bopping around town during mornings in winter before all the streets have been plowed!
Just for getting to and from a store or two, it might be worth it.

I'm waiting for the Electric Airliners. Range will be 15 miles. Build a lot of new airports, and it'll "be just fine".
And the weight of the batteries will mean that a 767 can carry "up to 40 people, up to 25 miles".

If people really wanted to drive electric vehicles the car company's would be making them by the millions. The fact is that free market capitalism is dead and the politicians will decide what we "want"

We have a small farm and an eleven year old F150 that is dented and dirty. It gets washed when it rains. I see a lot of town F150's owned by people that probably wouldn't even get the bed dirty. That's their thing and I appreciate that. I can see an electric F150 being bought by a prior Prius owner that wants to feel macho with head room for his man bun.

In other words, when you calculate you RANGE in Minnesota in January trying to tow your 5th wheel trailer to Texas you're gonna get 15 miles from home. On the other hand it's a very useful FARM truck but none of these HYPE articles are telling me how long a re-charge takes.
