I was not surprised when Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Republican Sen. Marco Rubio were reelected this past week. I was in South Florida the week before, and everyone I met, many of who were new to the state, was voting for them. (Snip) I have one request for any Democrats and socially progressive independent voters relocating to the Sunshine State. Go for the tax laws, but please, stay and influence the social politics. According to reporting by the Tampa Bay Times, Florida had 221,000 more residents arrive from other states between July 2020 and July 2021 than left.

Comments:

She's begging liberals to move to Florida so they can wreck it. How about going back to the liberal dump you fled?

I actually think this is a real plan on the part of progressives. Gavin Newsom recently encouraged people to move to Florida as did Adams of NY. How else can they change the politics of Flight- use a Trojan Horse of Political Evacuees. Most of our problem children are former New Yorkers living in Palm Beach and Miami counties. They come here and then lapse back into their old habits of approving higher taxes for the “greater good” and pushing gun control just like back home. It will take a few years, but these escapees could turn red to purple or blue.

The new Floridians are going there as pilgrims, seeking freedom. They are not going there as missionaries committed to preaching a radical liberal religion. They have moved from a fouled nest, and they understand that the democrats are responsible for the stench. As a result we are seeing the dark blue states lose congressional seats, and red states gain these seats.

Luckily most who flee the blue sinkholes are not in a permanent vegetative state like Ms Pierson. Yes, come for the taxes, the excellent roads, the low crime rate, the neighborly attitude (like our recent "barn-raising" to put up hurricane shutters in advance of Ian), the robust and reciprocated support of our police, and of course the coast and the sunshine. Florida may be the last redoubt of liberty in a failing Republic. Ms Pierson goes back to money over and over, but Florida means more than that. The last few years have driven that point home. If she considers her progressive ideas helpful then she should scoot back to Chicago and set about improving things there, Stopping the slaughter of children would be a good place to start. Re-establishing law and order so that residents and tourists feel safe and businesses don't close their doors and run is a splendid area to which a progressive do-gooder like Ms Pierson could apply herself.
