Is There Another Ronald Reagan Out There?

People are fickle, we all know that, and in no area is fickleness more evident than in politics. American voters change their minds constantly, never seeming to be able to decide if they want Democrats or Republicans to run the country for any length of time. Look at the following list of which party won the Presidency since 1948 (I’ll deal with FDR in a later post):

Comments:

The short answer to the question is "No!" What George Washington was to the 18th century - - and Abraham Lincoln was to the 19th century - - Ronald Reagan was to the 20th century - - a man of towering talent, insight, and integrity - - who comes along once in a century - - if we're lucky. Aside from Donald Trump - - the only 21st century American political figures who may someday qualify - - are Fightin' Roy Blunt and Corey Booker.

with all due deference to our great Republican President, Ronald W. Regan, there is no need to have "Another Ronald Reagan" to preside over our government - we already have the one man who has proven his ability to, not only do the job of President, but to do it so well he flushes out the enemy within and smashes them into a babbling mass of utter fools and nincompoops need I say more about our 45th President, Donald J. Trump? isn't it a coincidence that our two greatest modern day Presidents have rhyming names: Ronald and Donald - hmmm, is this God playing a trick on us?

It has been 34 years since the Reagan years ended. He now belongs to the ages. So do his ideas. Where is the Warsaw Pact? Members of NATO today. The Soviet Union a smattering of independent states, and a weak military power, as are the major European “powers.” Reagan’s America had a different view regarding the economy. Many veterans of the Great Depression survived. The Nixon-Ford-Carter stagflation economy destroyed retirees who had no pension or Soc Sec COLAs or IRAs. They had true fixed incomes that truly shrunk. There is no “Ronald Reagan” out there that I see. We’ve already seen the “Next Margaret Thatcher”. And Francis is no St. JP2.

Reagan was only one notch above Carter and Mondale. I don't want another Reagan. May he RIP but I'll never vote for any one like him, or Bush for that matter.

The man accused of attacking Paul Pelosi with a hammer had been living in a school bus weeks before the attack, neighbors said. Those who know David DePape, 42, told The Post they’ve seen him living in a yellow school bus parked in front of the Berkeley home of his ex, San Francisco pro-nudist activist Gypsy Taub, with whom he shares three children. “He usually kept to himself,” neighbor Ryan La Coste told The Post.

California truck drivers and environmental groups presented their concerns about a proposal under consideration by state air regulators to phase out the sale of medium and heavy-duty gas-powered vehicles within the next 20 years. The California Air Resources Board held its first public hearing this week to receive feedback from the public on the proposal, which the board will likely consider in Spring 2023.

The Republican Party has won an election integrity lawsuit against Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson over restrictions she imposed on poll challengers. Benson, per the Republican National Committee, had imposed restrictions on poll challengers, including a new credential form, an "artificial deadline" for appointing them, and limiting the poll workers with whom the challengers may communicate.

The liberal enclave of Martha’s Vineyard has been thrown into chaos by the arrival of two planeloads of migrants sent there by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, according to local reports. Local officials on the Massachusetts island were told about the new arrivals during a Wednesday night meeting of the West Tisbury Select Board — with Town Administrator Jennifer Rand saying she’d been receiving “furious texts” from residents, the MV Times reported. “I’m a little unclear about the situation, as is everybody, because everybody is scrambling a bit,” Rand said.

Sources tell FOX Business that Pelosi wants President Biden to nominate her to become the next U.S. ambassador to Italy if the GOP takes the House majority in the midterm elections. Biden is holding the spot for the speaker, sources say, which is one reason he has yet to fill the position since taking office. Speculation earlier this year that a Pelosi ally and former Wall Street executive wanted the job has shifted with the increasing likelihood that the GOP takes the majority. There was no clarity yet on how a new Senate will react to a Pelosi nomination

Elite medical schools are deliberately recruiting woke activists, jeopardizing their mission of training physicians. That’s what our organization found in a review of the application process for America’s top 50 medical schools. Nearly three-quarters of these institutions — and 80% of the top 10 — ask applicants about their views on diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism and other politicized concepts. The clear goal is to find the students who will best advance divisive ideology, not provide the best care to patients.

Republicans are lucky to have Mitch McConnell:

Former President Donald Trump just slammed Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell (again), blasting him for not stopping the Democrats’ latest spending blowout (the laughably named “Inflation Reduction Act”), which Trump imagines he could’ve done by blocking the latest lifting of the federal debt ceiling, and for generally being “a pawn for the Democrats to get whatever they want.” Ridiculous.

A curious development indeed, especially after yesterday’s pas de deux over whether the FBI took Donald Trump’s passports — and why. Trump claimed that FBI agents “stole my three Passports,” while the Department of Justice remained silent about it until late in the day. Now there are two questions to ask after this NBC News report: why did FBI agents take them in the first place, and why did the inventory from the seizure not list them?

Years ago, I heard that Romans punished murderers by forcing them to carry the corpse of their victims on their backs for as long as it took for them to become infected and die. True or not, that’s the picture I get with Republicans like Bill Barr, Dick Cheney, Mitch McConnell and many others who are so determined to cling to the party’s old ways while cultural and political earthquakes are threatening to destroy America as we know it. When Trump came along as a no-nonsense outsider with a passion for winning “big league,” political curmudgeons were so enslaved to the status quo

President Joe Biden on Saturday again tried to blame Republicans for the attack on Paul Pelosi on Friday. “You can’t condemn the violence unless you condemn those people who continue to argue the election was not real, that it’s being stolen, that all the malarkey that’s being put out there to undermine democracy,” he said. The president spoke to reporters about the attack at a polling center in Delaware, where he voted early with his granddaughter Natalie Biden. “The talk has to stop. That’s the problem,” he said. “That’s the problem.” Biden appeared annoyed the Republicans were condemning political violence without condemning some of the rhetoric coming from their colleagues.

Republicans privately expect Attorney General Merrick Garland to indict former President Donald Trump between 60 and 90 days after the midterm elections, according to a report on Monday. GOP aides on Capitol Hill and former strategists said they do not have insider knowledge about an indictment on Trump, but they claim that a deadline to indict the former president is quickly approaching and Garland is facing heat from Democrats to act fast. However, indicting Trump could have negative consequences for Democrats, some aides suggested.

CBS’s Sunday Morning started off with their anchor Jane Pauley fearmongering that if Republicans win in the 2022 midterm elections, “democracy” could end in the United States. Plugging an upcoming segment by correspondent Robert Costa, Pauley fretted that “the very future of our democracy” is on the ballot in 2022.  “This past summer, it was looking like the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v Wade might offer an opportunity to the party in power, the Democrats. But a more recent issue, inflation, could very well rule the day. And favor Republicans,” Pauley bemoaned.

Here is a question for Republicans to consider before next week’s midterm elections: How far does former President Donald Trump have to go before the GOP kicks him out of the party? Put another way, will the Republican Party save itself before it has completely lost its soul? It has been equally disappointing to see so many Americans buy Trump’s “big lie” about the 2020 election. (snip) Trump continues corrupting the party of Lincoln
