The Republican Status Quo is Officially Dead

Original Article

Years ago, I heard that Romans punished murderers by forcing them to carry the corpse of their victims on their backs for as long as it took for them to become infected and die. True or not, that’s the picture I get with Republicans like Bill Barr, Dick Cheney, Mitch McConnell and many others who are so determined to cling to the party’s old ways while cultural and political earthquakes are threatening to destroy America as we know it. When Trump came along as a no-nonsense outsider with a passion for winning “big league,” political curmudgeons were so enslaved to the status quo

FTA: "Republicans like Bill Barr, Dick Cheney, Mitch McConnell and many others who are so determined to cling to the party’s old ways" Oh - - how I long for those good old days! The days of George Bush, Trent Lott, Orrin Hatch, Arlen Spector, Denny Hastert, John Boehner, John McCain, Paul Ryan. Gee - - I really miss those grand old guys!

Outstanding commentary: FTA: "To beat back the crazies and tear down the stuff they were building, America needed a blunt object, not a precision tool. For voters, it was a no-brainer. So they picked the guy with the bat, axe, and sludge hammer over those carrying shiny scalpels and tweezers that broke when things got tough." Yes, exactly. And Dick Cheney has just wrecked HIMSELF, and he cannot even grasp that HE is so consumed with Uniparty Deep State hatred that he is literally crazed. And how much longer will the 'cold civil war' remain cold with the extremist Demonrats continuing to try as hard as they can to get a hot one going? I want no civil war, but we are already in a cold one, and I can't stop it. And we'll see if these vicious, treasonous thugs with badges will be forcing it to become a hot war, against our wills.

The Establishment - D & R, hated Trump because he had their number. They will not go down without a fight. So let's fight. Its time for the Old Guard to leave the building. You have sucked off the taxpayer's teat long enough. Go enjoy your ill gotten gains and leave the rest of us alone. Once again you have brought American close to her knees. Tax and spend, this foolish climate change nonsense, the covid porn and the new health porn they will be pushing, the food, energy, border crisis, crime, the sexualizing of our children. We are sick of it and we are sick of you. I now understand what set the French off. It will not be easy to dig out of this dung hole you have put us in but with the right leadership we will get the job done.

They didn't make them carry the corpse of their victim on their backs, the corpse was sewn to their backs. That way the victim had the last say in the punishment of his murderer.

Who managed to get Trump's federal judge nominees approved/seated and who kept Garland off of the Supreme Court? McConnell's time is up but he's provided critical support for Trump and normal Americans before being overtaken with age.

#8 - But at the time the Turtle didn't know he was keeping Garland off the court for Trump; he thought he was probably keeping the nomination open for Jeb!. As to getting Trump's appointees approved, there also, Trump was given names from a pre-approved list. McConnell is big fat swamp snapping turtle, with a Chinese wife.

Re: #10 - I'm thinking that since our country was well into Obama's second term when the nomination of Garland was being considered, that doing something good for your country did not require a certain outcome for any given future presidential candidate, nor should it have. Having a Taiwanese-born wife, from a capitalist family, who has been in the U. S. since age 8, is not why I think it's time for McConnell to retire. he's old and from a different generation of politics, one whose time has come and gone. Elaine Chao is not a favorite of mine, either, most likely because she was raised on Long Island but she's far less of a communist than Pelosi.

FTA: “You cannot win a war unless you know you are in one. Weak men do anything to avoid admitting the hardest truths because they lack the resolve to do what truth demands from them.” What if there is a UNIPARTY that involves top GOP elected officials? What if these UNIPARTY Republicans were complicit in the ‘20 selection, ensuring PDT lost? Just suppose…what are you prepared to do about it?

Despite positive inflation data this week, Richmond Federal Reserve President Thomas Barkin said Friday that more interest rate increases will be needed to tamp down price pressures. Releases this week showing that consumer and wholesale price increases softened in July were “very welcome,” Barkin told CNBC’s “Squawk on the Street” in a live interview. “So we’re happy to see inflation start to move down,” he added. But he noted that, “I’d like to see a period of sustained inflation under control, and until we do that I think we’re just going to have to continue to move rates into restrictive territory.”

WASHINGTON — Pope Francis is up to his old tricks again. He has banned the Latin Mass. Beginning this autumn, Roman Catholics will be greeted every Sunday — and for the truly devout, every day — with the modern post-Vatican II Mass. They will have no alternative. The Latin Mass has been put out of commission. Did you know it was divisive? I did not know that, but Francis knew it, and now he is banning it in a move that is meant, he says, to increase global unity.

At least 30 such talks took place, the New York Post reported on July 16, based on a personal calendar on the laptop. The meetings took place at either the White House or the vice president’s residence at the Naval Observatory. The latest revelation comes amid President Joe Biden’s continued claim that the two have never spoken about Hunter Biden’s business dealings

Remember how the world, especially the American media, fawned over former German Chancellor Angela Merkel? The adoration was so over the top that in 2015 Time magazine named Merkel its "Person of the Year." It described her as the "Chancellor of the Free World." Time owes whatever readers it has left a solemn apology. Today, Germans are suffering the bitter fruits of nearly every major economic and geopolitical decision Merkel made as chancellor. Start with the German economy that she attempted to reset for the 21st century, which is reminiscent of how President Joe Biden explains to inflation-weary voters that we are going through "an incredible transition."

Despite a fresh face at the helm, CNN’s ratings are stuck in freefall mode. Pledging to “go a different way” as “extremes are dominating cable news,” when he took over in early May, CEO Chris Licht hasn’t yet seen the hoped-for results. Only 654,000 viewers on average per night tuned in to June’s primetime lineup, while the network attracted 487,000 viewers on average during the day. These numbers represent a slight decline from May, even with the Jan. 6 House committee hearings.

One thing we must give Democrats credit for is their unity. Yes, certain members of the party such as Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) will occasionally diverge from the party line and oppose particularly radical pieces of legislation, but when it comes to big moments and key votes – on impeachment, for instance – Democrats circle the wagons. Contrarily, Republicans tend to fracture at the most inopportune moments, which is why it was refreshing to see virtual unanimity amongst the GOP after Monday’s outrageous raid on former President Donald Trump’s residence Mar-a-Lago. Almost all notable Republicans supported Trump after the ordeal; all except for one.

It is helpful to think of political developments as moves on the chessboard made to advance an objective. In chess, the objective is to win the game, chess being zero-sum. Politics is like that, too, though participants often claim it's not, that they're acting for the greater good, principles at the foundation of democracy, motherhood and apple pie and all that — which is true in some cases but never if Democrats are in the game. This brings me to Attorney General Garland's claim that the Mar-a-Lago home invasion wasn't a raid at all.

The post–George Floyd racial reckoning has hit the field of medicine like an earthquake. Medical education, medical research, and standards of competence have been upended by two related hypotheses: that systemic racism is responsible both for racial disparities in the demographics of the medical profession and for racial disparities in health outcomes. Questioning those hypotheses is professionally suicidal. Vast sums of public and private research funding are being redirected from basic science to political projects aimed at dismantling white supremacy. The result will be declining quality of medical care and a curtailment of scientific progress.

By the time the COVID pandemic took hold in March 2020 and changed the world forever, Peloton was poised to reap the rewards of a brilliant idea and impeccable timing.
