Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has blasted the state’s new “ranked-choice” voting system following her loss in the state’s first election conducted with this system. Palin and republican candidate Nick Begich had both lost to Democratic Candidate Mary.
The former governor released a statement this week as she lashed out at the voting system and her fellow republican candidate, Nick Begich. Palin claims Begich is to be faulted for costing the Republicans the Ione seat. She also told him to drop out of the race and cause no further harm as they are both supposed to face Peltola again in November.

Voting is voting. Sorry Sarah, I've always been a huge fan but the voting system isn't your problem. If it was standard voting all those people who didn't check your name second simply wouldn't have voted for you at all or worse would have voted for the other guy as some did in the ranked choice system. You're my first choice but not the anything choice for too many in your state.

#1 - Sorry, but you are dead wrong. Ranked voting is intended to either elect (1) Democrats or (2) Wishy-washy moderate Republicans. It eliminates the stark contrast in the general election. We have primaries for a reason.

Ranked choice voting is a scam.
The better idea is to have runoff elections if a candidate does not reach the required margin (be it 50%+1 or whatever is set by law). Yeah, so what if there is a second election.
Even when you go to the ice cream shop and want to get a single dip cone, you have to choose one flavor. Yeah, there might be a whole lot of good choices, but if there can only be one scoop on the cone, you gotta make a choice.

Correct me if I am wrong. If this were a three way race, no ranked voting, the Democrat still wins. The problem was two Republicans running in the election splitting the voting letting the Democrat win. Knowing the Republican party and Washinton, it was probably intentional. Trump isn't the only one that Washington hates.

I don't like their new system, but would note that it measured the strength of the opposition of voters to her.

Good for her. Notice Begich's response, going after her the way he did. You can tell he's been raised in a Democrat political family dynasty and is only running as a Republican so he can win or elect another Democrat.

Beltway republicans and the republican swamp see small state seats as placeholders for the national big government agenda and they don't need no rogue elephants like Palin blowing up dams by you know, representing her consituency. So via Murkowski, another Beltway resident who mails a postcard from Alaska from time to time to demonstrate her heartful concern, we brought in the DC regulars to formulate another clever way to control the outcome and protect beltway favorites.
I"m disappointed Palin didn't see this coming,

Oh look whose back, trying to justify her existence back to 2008 when she sandbagged her employer, on behalf of her other employer, Mitt Romney. Tell me more about the great things you and the Romney Rove Bushies are doing to save the country that you sold off to China in small pieces in the interest of "expanding the global economy".

Fun to see the Palin-haters still around after all of these years. Still trying to create the illusion that McCain lost because of Sarah? Walk away from the wreckage of that burning wreck of an argument. McCain lost because he was a HORRIBLE candidate (as proven by his subsequent record) and she is the only reason he didn't get shellacked even worse than he did.
No, " a vote is a vote" is an obvious falsehood in light of the "ranked voting" cheat. Here's how the math plays out. In a theoretical ranked vote, let's say 40% goes to the Democrat and 60% goes to the 2 Republicans. The Democrat wins but the interesting part is in the breakdown of the Republican voters and their ranks. The principled conservative (that is the ACTUAL conservative) votes first for the principled conservative candidate and 2nd for the RINO because, after all, they're fellow Republicans and there's a guiding platform, etc.. On the other hand, the RINO votes for the RINO first and the Democrat second because, after all, we CAN'T let those principled conservatives to gain control of the apparatus of government. They might dismantle the big-government, globalist leviathan we've been building for more than a century. The Democrat votes first for the Democrat then for the RINO because, after all, the RINO will bend over backward to adopt the Democrat agenda for the cause of "bipartisanship" and "unity."
How do we know this? It has been on display for decades in state and local elections where principled conservatives somehow win primaries despite the RINO political machines pulling out all of the stops to sink the principled conservative candidate. They then openly both support and even raise money for and endorse the Democratic candidate because, after all, in order to preserve "bipartisanship" and "unity" and to protect leviathan this becomes a matter of absolute necessity. Later, they will blame the principled conservative for the loss and demand new party rules to ensure that the "extremists" can't win any more primaries. Then they will scream from the rooftops that principled conservatives MUST support Democrat-lite RINO's and blame them when they vote 3rd party or not at all when the RINO's nominate these candidates and they inevitably lose.
Nope, a "vote is definitely NOT a vote" when ranked voting is involved

Ranked choice voting and runoff elections are both designed to elect Democrats and pliable, moderate Republicans. In ranked choice voting, a watered down Democrat candidate can gain election through being a consistent second choice, and the financing for a runoff race doesn't favor an upstart winner whom the establishment doesn't like. What's so magical about gaining fifty percent of the vote. Numerous elections favor the bad guys.

Well if what some of you Palin haters or as you like to be called ' sensible voter" think Gov. Palin is crying political tears and she would be beaten anyway what would it hurt to have a straight 2 lady race instead of having the SURE loser Begich , a democrat by the way, on the ticket? Scared Sarah might be proven right?

There are moderate Repubs who don't like Sarah, voted for Begich and put the Dem, Peltola, as their second choice on what the rcv turned into an open primary. I don't agree with their distaste of Sarah to the point of cutting off their noses to spite their faces. She is more in line with conservative values than Begich. Begich voted for Anchorage mayor Ethan Berkowitz, who left office after having been discovered in an illicit affair with a newswoman. Berkowitz and his cronies in the Anchorage Assembly were misusing Covid funds and setting covid restaurant regulations to benefit properties he owned, yet persecuting a local eatery with fines. Begich's support of Berkowitz should be sufficient reason to not vote for Begich; either very poor judgment or outright Dem in his heart.
As for Sarah being a quitter, I ask folks who used to support and now loathe her: "What would you have done in her shoes?" Not only Sarah, but her staff were inundated with malicious and capricious lawsuits, taking away from their work time and gumming up the flow of her office. Ex: Sarah wore an Arctic Cat (brand of snowmachine) jacket to watch her husband compete in a snowmachine race. Suit was brought against her for that. Ridiculous! Everyone and their dog up here has name brand gear. No one has ever given me a sensible alternative to what she did, step down and let her simpatico Lieutenant Gov. take her place.
I don't think Sarah is perfect, but I do believe she has the heart of a servant to the people...much more so than Begich. Asking Begich to step down is just finally voicing out loud what many of us up here believe. But we have our Mitch McConnell good old boys/rinos up here as elsewhere, so they'll keep working against the most conservative of our choices and see where that gets all of us. meh

Sarah Palin is a quitter, and a loser because she resigned as governor. This was always a Democrat talking point. Nick Begich is a DEMOCRAT! Alaskans are a moron if a Democrat wins in November.

Even before there was TDS, there was PDS right on this hallowed site. I see it cannot be cured. We really ARE no different than the democrats, and as such we deserve the fate that is coming for us.

Not a quitter. The frivolous charges required her to defend herself with her own funds, not state money. Not being independently wealthy she could not financially afford to remain in office---which was the purpose of leftists making all the false frivolous accusations.

Sadly this site is no different than the USA voter base. Some people are too thick or too thin to understand the trouble we are in. Too many of them for this country to stop the collapse. Combine a really dopey reality view with overt and hidden cheating and there is no way reformers get any power. All the checks and balances have been corrupted and are controlled by forces that are breaking into your house, your life at will, throwing you in prison without a trial for as long as they want, and swiftly destroying life's essentials, for you, not for them.

No, a thousand times no. There is absolutely nothing about rcv that makes a rino voter out the D as their second choice which is what a lot of them did.
If you think people who voted Rino 1 and Dem 2 were ever going to vote for her under any circumstances you're delusional because the fact is they didn't.
There were 3 parties on the ballot, Dem, rino and MAGA. The Dem+rino added up to more than MAGA. That's why she lost. There was no voting method under which she would have won. She did not have enough support. Cry all you like about rcv. The proven mathematical fact is not enough people from her state liked her. I have always liked her. I like her today. Not enough others do so she lost.
