PINELLAS PARK — Two people were killed when a speeding Ferrari crashed head-on into another car on Bryan Dairy Road on Sunday, police said.
A preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the Ferrari was heading east on Bryan Dairy Road between North 66th Street and Belcher Road at a high rate of speed about 9:40 p.m., crossed the median and crashed head-on into a car heading west, police said. The driver of the Ferrari and a passenger were killed on impact, the news release said. The occupants of the other car had injuries that police said did not appear to be life-threatening.
Bryan Dairy Road was closed for several hours Sunday night

More likely some kid that thinks because he can handle his Kia with an aftermarket muffler then he can handle a real sports car.

There's a Ferrari dealership in Palm Harbor just west of US 19 at Tampa Road. One of the decedents was likely a customer. When I first got my Tennessee driver's license at age 16 (1970), annual highway fatalities were around 40,000, and in the half century since cars have gotten more crashworthy, and more people survive crashes. But not everything is survivable, and having more than 500 horsepower magnifies errors of judgment, even in the finest road cars. It seems that there are a lot of fatal crashes of hopped up Mustangs, Camaros, Corvettes, and Dodge Hellcats. When someone perishes in a quarter million dollar sled, it's news.

67-year-old goes open throttle on a 500 HP car, with a woman, (11 years younger) in the passenger seat. That's unusual for the rich old guy with a Red Ferrari... (that she wasn't 22 years younger, or just 22). So that is odd.
Hey, wasn't one of the drugs in Paul Pelosi's system Viagra? Feeling a little extra snarky because these were very easily avoidable deaths. He should have known better.

Not what I was expecting to read: A preliminary investigation indicates that a 67-year-old man from Largo was driving a Ferrari heading east in the 7200 block of Bryan Dairy Road at a high rate of speed about 9:40 p.m., when he lost control, spun out, crossed a raised median and crashed head-on into a 42-year-old Largo man driving an Acura heading west, police said. While he may have been traveling at a high rate of speed, I wonder if rain had anything to do with it because in the pictures, it looks like the road is really wet, so makes me wonder if he hydroplaned.

I raced sports cars for seven years in the Sports Car Club of America (Austin-Healey and Mini-Cooper). I haven't had a new car in years and was eying a couple of high performance sport sedans. 350 HP, paddle shifters, etc. Then I thought, "Wait a minute, old man, you aren't 25 years old anymore, and you'll very likely kill yourself or somebody else". Most people can't handle that kind of power safely, much less an 80 year old retiree like me. I'll stick with my old Camry.

When I lived in Santa Barbara years ago, a well known local wealthy man deliberately drove into an offramp on the freeway and continued against oncoming traffic. Late at night. Believed to be suicide. He took others with him.

I hope I never have to witness a wreck like this. It said the driver was ejected from the car. It must have been pretty gruesome.

Most people are convinced that they are far more skilled behind the wheel than they actually are.
Get some actual race track training and soend many lap learning some real skills....and don't drive crazy on the streets, save it for track days and be safe.
The driver will never make that mistake again.
Good that the oncoming driver survived.

The Ferrari driver and passenger killed. Booze? Argument? Both? Not an unusual accident...

Didn’t notice driver was 67. Heart attack? Stroke? Did his passenger grab the wheel?

#9 -- Very likely. It did rain in Tampa on Sunday evening, with thunderstorms and light rain alternating through the 6-10 o'clock hours.

And the Darwin Award of the Year for Drunken Ferrari Drivers goes to….. Looks like the plastic tarp over the bodies is a good sign it’s not a pretty picture underneath.
