Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk spoke at a conference in Norway on Monday, and amid his announcement that he plans to have self-driving Teslas on the market by the end of the year, he made the admission to reporters that the transition away from fossil fuels is happening too quickly. Reuters reports that Musk told reporters that he thinks “we need to use oil and gas in the short term, because otherwise civilisation will crumble.” “One of the biggest challenges the world has ever faced is the transition to sustainable energy and to a sustainable economy,” he added. “That will take some decades to complete.”

True enough, but will leftists believe him? I doubt it.

The earth , our planet , is an oil producing machine. " Fossil fuel " is a misnomer. Hydrocarbons are produced chemically from the carbon found in the earths mantle. They are synthecized abiotically. Dead dinosaurs are not needed. The push/rush to green whatever is all about wealth and power for the chosen few and enslavement for everyone else

Well, Duh! I'm still not sure I trust Elon, because he demonstrates no strong convictions other than free speech. He is still essentially a Liberal who can't stand the taxation of entrepreneurship.

Look at Germany...It's a mess... they are already rationing oil. Merkel fell all in for the ultimate climate change rules. Musk needs to have a talk with jet setting Hollywood, Kerry & Pelosi to see if jet fuel is included in their push for climate ..for thee but not me.... rules...

That is the whole point of the push to make the transition rapidly. Of course, what most of those pushing it do not realize, and Elon Musk appears to, is that they too will suffer the consequences of civilization crumbling.

Musk is right.
Not necessarily opposed to transitioning from oil and gas, but it has to be done in a manner that does not cause disaster. Humanity needs more energy, not less. At the same time humanity does not need a bunch of unneeded restrictions imposed on it.
As it stands now, they are causing shortages of goods and energy. They are causing inflation. They are imposing more restrictions on society.
In short, they are tyrants, criminals, and incompetents.

In other words, all the other car companies trying to sell EVs should stop.
EVs are coal powered.

I agree with Elon Musk. A more sane approach to electric automobiles is needed. I would recommend high input tariffs on EVs and EV batteries, the proceed of which would be directed at enhancement of the electric grid and the promotion of oil, gas, coal and nuclear power production. With this approach the EV might be widely useful in perhaps 50 or 100 years. Right now, it is most in demand by the urban wealthy. That is why Elon Musk is wise to target his EV models at that market. Of course there should be no government subsidy of the vehicles or the batteries.

Duh! We are not transitioning to renewables, for the do not exist.
We are transitioning to energy scarcity. That. Is What. They Really. Want.

Finally the point is made in the proper perspective.
But do the lefties want it to crumble- or just the US or the entire West?
It’s sad that The Gullibles focus on the bright side- “yes, clean energy, eliminate oil&gas”- and can’t see the other side- there is no alternative to oil and gas.
Sad to see such a large component of civilization to be made up of Gullibles.

I appreciate his candor but I believe it comes from a reality driven perspective. However, I do believe he is a believer in green energy. He has enough common sense to see what is coming down the road and knows we are not close to being prepared to make the switch. I also believe Elon Musk is a bit of a contrarian and that makes him push against the braying jackals. Ultimately, he is one of them but I have to give it to him when he is right.
I agree with #2. The obsession to go green is all about wealth and power for the chosen few and enslavement for everyone else.

The crumbling of civilization is in fact the strategic goal of the insane, accelerated push for "green (inadequate) energy". They are intent on creating chaos and mass insurrection, with the ultimate toppling of the United States. So far, nobody is seriously trying to stop them, so their chances of accomplishing that are improving daily.

Their arguments don't win in a cold dark room, only in the luxury of a warm bright safe space brought to you fossil fuels. A transition is going to happen but we have a couple of centuries to work on it. Scarcity and expense will drive up petroleum costs and gradually bring on more nuclear energy. Reality trumps rhetoric; look at all the nuclear and coal electrical generation coming back online across Europe.

If we "transition" at all. There is no need to discard and replace vital, valuable, and proven energy sources.
#2 -- the abiotic theory of the origin of oil is the only one that makes sense. Coal may be a fossil fuel, but oil isn't. Oddly, both the fossil-fuel theory and the abiotic theory originated in Russia, the latter under Stalin's USSR.

Global warming is just the most recent incarnation of the push for a totalitarian communist takeover by the modern Democrat party led bt Obama, the "squad," Pelosi, Shumer and Biden's handlers. The FBI is morphing into an unholy "trinity"wannabe of Gestapo, Stassi and KGB (some agents style themselves as American Chekists)

If the market wants to go electric over hydrocarbon, it will do so organically, no mandates necessary.
Like when the “horseless carriage” with its internal combustion engine presented its benefits over horses and horse-drawn conveyances, the market spoke and that was that.
This electric push with its political undercurrent, this is forced, not organic, and all this looks wrong to me.
Those with a little foresight, those who love liberty, they will work to put the brakes to a forced transition to electrics.

Re #17, comets and asteroids are made of rocky and metallic materials and many are methane snowballs, too. Stack a couple of billion methane snowballs together, and a lot of methane snow gets buried, and then compressed, and then compressed a lot more, and then REALLY compressed until a bunch of CH4s polymerize into CxHy long chain hydrocarbons....which we call "oil". Some stays as methane and we get that out as natural gas.
No bacteria or plants or whatever required.

Climate change is a political scam. They pass huge spending bills to address “climate change” and pay off themselves and friends. THAT is what is behind all this hysteria and it isn’t going to change until folks catch on.
