WNBA star Brittney Griner was sentenced to nine years in prison after she was found guilty of drug possession and drug smuggling by a Russian judge on Thursday. She was also fined 1 million rubles. Russian prosecutors asked the court to hand Griner a 9.5-year prison sentence. The defense then started its arguments. Griner faces up to 10 years in prison. Griner offered an apology ahead of the sentencing. "I want to apologize to my teammates, my club, my fans and the city of (Yekaterinburg) for my mistake that I made and the embarrassment that I brought on them," she said. She should be thankful she was not caught in Indonesia. Many foreigners have ended up on death row for drug offenses there. If you believe in the Sovereignty of The United States and do not wish to have the UN or some other non-elected body come in and make laws here, then you have to allow Russia the same privilege to enforce their laws. Most likely in a year or two there will be a prisoner swap.

Britney is paying the price for ignoring Russia's laws. I'm wondering if she wasn't set up. If she's been playing in Russia for six years, she probably brought dope with her multiple times before with no consequences. If so, why was this time different? Did the Russians want a pawn? Nonetheless, if she hadn't carried drugs, she wouldn't be in the current pickle. I'm hoping her experience will knock some sense into her head and she'll recognize that she is incredibly blessed to be a U.S. citizen.

I read somewhere that Ms. Greiner was born with hermaphrodism at birth (both male and female parts). Her parents made the decision at that time to keep her female parts. That could explain her height, voice inflection, and athletic talents, and are issues not of her own making. Going into Russia with what they consider contraband wasn't a wise choice. She's going to have to pay the piper now, and I'm sure she's already realized that the Russian prison system may be a bit less "inmate-friendly" than those systems in the US and Western countries. And Sleepy Creepy Crooked President Joe's bungling and negotiating in public, not private is only going to extend her stay in those less-than-desirable-conditions while the Russians continue to raise the price for any release.

The proper message to Brittney is thimk! (proper spelling) #18 is correct. In the words of the old joke, she has received a (9 years, ridiculous) sentence of ruru in Russia, although in Indonesia (or Singapore, or elsewhere) it might be death by ruru. With marijuana and its derivatives enjoying quasi-legal (if not wholly legal) status in the USA, it was inevitable that some idiot would take a controlled substance into a country that isn't an ally, which then decided to make an example and a celebrity of the WNBA player. Wrong place, wrong time. Also, #13 may be on to something. If that's a woman, she's certainly got a low voice, a possible basso profondo. No wonder she can score against women. The Russki's benefit without firing a shot. Win-win. I'll also predict some of the usual suspects here will destructively act out in large and small ways, like the Summer of 2020. Maybe Brittney, who shuns our national anthem, a symbol of our (horrible, oppressive) country, should know that those Miranda rights Russia did not give her are not universal but come from a U.S. Supreme Court case written by five white men who based their decision on the Fifth Amendment to our Constitution. The United States is preparing a new $1bn security assistance package for Ukraine, which will include munitions for long-range weapons and armoured medical transport vehicles, according the Reuters news agency. The package would be one of the largest so far and is expected to be announced as early as Monday, three sources briefed on the matter told Reuters. The officials, speaking to Reuters on the condition of anonymity, said that President Joe Biden had not yet signed the next weapons package, and cautioned that weapons packages can change in value and content before they are signed.

While the Republicans look to retake control of Congress in the 2022 midterm elections — which are only 95 days away — after being in the minority for roughly four years, the most recent Rasmussen Reports survey showed that 46 percent of likely U.S. voters would elect a Republican, compared to the 43 percent who said they would vote for a Democrat. Russia's penal colonies are descendants of the notorious Soviet-era gulags where prisoners have been subjected to harsh treatment and poor conditions. Prisoners in the system have been beaten by other inmates, endured torture and forced to watch Russian propaganda for hours every day in what's known as "awareness raising." Following several days of Griner's trial, which stemmed

Pence is entering into the Wisconsin Republican contest for governor with an establishment endorsement. President Trump has endorsed self-made businessman Tim Michels in the Wisconsin gubernatorial primary next Tuesday. The Republican nominee will face incumbent Governor Tony Evers, a former teacher and radical leftist. JPMorgan Chase & Co. analyst Ken Goldman released a market research note that indicated the product was being broadly discontinued in the U.S. last Thursday.
