WNBA star Brittney Griner was sentenced to nine years in prison after she was found guilty of drug possession and drug smuggling by a Russian judge on Thursday. She was also fined 1 million rubles.
Russian prosecutors asked the court to hand Griner a 9.5-year prison sentence. The defense then started its arguments. Griner faces up to 10 years in prison.
Griner offered an apology ahead of the sentencing. "I want to apologize to my teammates, my club, my fans and the city of (Yekaterinburg) for my mistake that I made and the embarrassment that I brought on them," she said. "I want to also apologize to my parents, my siblings,

Oh well…
I say we let her cool her heels and think about life for a year or two then offer to trade her for Colin Kaepernick.

I still say if you strip away all those ugly tattoos there is a boy underneath. That is not a girl's figure.
In any case, keep it. Maybe it can play the race/perv/hate your country card there in its new country.

I don’t agree with her politics and her comments about the United States have been repulsive. However, any of you cheering this are shameful. Depriving a human being of their liberty for nine years over this crime is an obscenity.

1. She hates the usa
2. She uses drugs that hurt the body and others.
3. No repentance.
4. To be traded for a seller of death
5. She is being equated with a marine.
I have a bad taste in my mouth for her.

typical example of the narcissistic people who inhabit the lesbian and gay community when her "apology" is all about her and her professional career but in actuality who really needs the WNBA, and really, who needs the NBA?

Oookay, I don’t see anything about the racist and homophobic USA nor any new-found respect for the National Anthem. Her mind is gone.

She should be thankful she was not caught in Indonesia. Many foreigners have ended up on death row for drug offenses there. If you believe in the Sovereignty of The United States and do not wish to have the UN or some other non-elected body come in and make laws here, then you have to allow Russia the same privilege to enforce their laws. Most likely in a year or two there will be a prisoner swap.

Not a fan at all but 9 years for a vape is a long time. Wouldn't wish that on anybody. That said, we should not a trade a murderous terrorist arms dealer for her. Perhaps worse than her sentence is her sudden realization that her future is in the hands of that great negotiator pudding brain Biden.

A nine year all expense paid vacation on the Moskva River, not bad for a former WNBA player. She screwed up thinking she could do anything she wanted outside the US. Unfortunately for her, not everywhere else is like the US. And Lame Duck abandoned her just like he did the Afghanis who worked for us during the last 20 years. How does it feel to hate America and the irony that followed?

Britney is paying the price for ignoring Russia's laws. I'm wondering if she wasn't set up. If she's been playing in Russia for six years, she probably brought dope with her multiple times before with no consequences. If so, why was this time different? Did the Russians want a pawn? Nonetheless, if she hadn't carried drugs, she wouldn't be in the current pickle. I'm hoping her experience will knock some sense into her head and she'll recognize that she is incredibly blessed to be a U.S. citizen.

I bet she would love to be able to hear the US's national anthem now - instead of demanding it not be played in her presence. In the meantime the 9 year sentence will be no picnic - the Russian penal system is brutal.

I read somewhere that Ms. Greiner was born with hermaphrodism at birth (both male and female parts). Her parents made the decision at that time to keep her female parts. That could explain her height, voice inflection, and athletic talents, and are issues not of her own making.
Going into Russia with what they consider contraband wasn't a wise choice. She's going to have to pay the piper now, and I'm sure she's already realized that the Russian prison system may be a bit less "inmate-friendly" than those systems in the US and Western countries.
And Sleepy Creepy Crooked President Joe's bungling and negotiating in public, not private is only going to extend her stay in those less-than-desirable-conditions while the Russians continue to raise the price for any release.

The proper message to Brittney is thimk! (proper spelling)
#18 is correct. In the words of the old joke, she has received a (9 years, ridiculous) sentence of ruru in Russia, although in Indonesia (or Singapore, or elsewhere) it might be death by ruru. With marijuana and its derivatives enjoying quasi-legal (if not wholly legal) status in the USA, it was inevitable that some idiot would take a controlled substance into a country that isn't an ally, which then decided to make an example and a celebrity of the WNBA player. Wrong place, wrong time.
Also, #13 may be on to something. If that's a woman, she's certainly got a low voice, a possible basso profondo. No wonder she can score against women. Ted Cassidy, eat your heart out.

Let's see if the prisoner swap now takes place, conviction notwithstanding.
The swap would prop Biden up with his base and strengthen his America destroying the agenda. The Russki's benefit without firing a shot. Win-win.
I'll also predict some of the usual suspects here will destructively act out in large and small ways, like the Summer of 2020. Whites oppressing blacks will be the justification.
You heard it here first.

It certainly is a travesty, but a fitting travesty for one who thumbs her nose at her own country that paid so dearly to purchase her liberty.

Re #8, she hates the USA, makes all sorts of false claims of racism when the precise opposite is true for her. She gets extra special treatment for being an obnoxious, rude, hateful black. And she is a pervert, and plays on that to get sympathy and special treatment, too.
Nope, she set her nasty self up for this, and she will learn that there are RULES and you have to follow them, even if you are black pervert who can bounce a ball better than the other girls.
Making excuses for them just makes them more obnoxious. She needs to suck it up and take responsibility, probably for the first time in her life, excuses and whining and "racism, racism, racism" don't work.

She wasn’t read her rights! Bless her heart. Maybe Brittney, who shuns our national anthem, a symbol of our (horrible, oppressive) country, should know that those Miranda rights Russia did not give her are not universal but come from a U.S. Supreme Court case written by five white men who based their decision on the Fifth Amendment to our Constitution. And I’ll bet she still hates our country. Too bad, so sad.
