Crushed: Brittney Griner’s Painful Reaction
After Devastating Guilty Verdict And Stiff Sentence

In February, American basketball star Brittney Griner was arrested at a Moscow airport after attempting to bring cannabis oil into the country, which is illegal according to Russian law. In the almost six months since being apprehended, Griner has lingered in a less-than-comfortable prison cell. On Thursday, the legal proceedings of the case came to a close when a Russian court delivered a guilty verdict, followed by a harsh sentence of nine years behind bars. None of Thursday’s developments should have come as a surprise to anyone. As we’ve noted before, 99% of all Russian prosecutions end with a guilty verdict, and with a maximum available sentence of ten years,

Comments:

Look at the bright side, Brittney, you won't have to listen to the Star Spangled Banner until 2031.

"maybe it’s time to revisit some of that anti-Americanism of yours" And maybe pink, flying horses will swoop in and rescue her. Her arrogance got her into this. I doubt that will go away. It will probably just make her more angry. It won't go her any good in Russia. It will be interesting to she what her attitude is when she finally is freed.

Brittney, your time in the gulag will not be pleasant. Whatever you do, don't drop the soap and bend over in the shower. You best quickly identify which fellow inmates may protect you from most certain harm. Prepare for the torture, murder around you, and physical abuse. Try claiming to be a man because their life expectancy in the gulag is a bit longer. If you are lucky, you will be assigned to a prison that is controlled by the guards. If you are not lucky you will be assigned to a prison controlled by the russkie mafia. You still hate America?

One thing that seems to be forgotten in the whole episode is this-- There are OTHER AMericans being held prisoner in Russia who are being FORGOTTEN (btw, how about those STILL stuck in Afghanistan when the Vegetable bugged out) They are not famous basketball players who are lesbians and being viewed by the media as MORE DESERVING of swapping violent criminals, and deserve to be considered... And even though harsh by our standards.... heck, now SOROS -backed DAs they let criminals out instead of detaining them so they can commit EVEN MORE crimes.... Griner's punishment in all fairness DOES NOT meet the crime committed

It won't be pretty. The irony of this situation is not lost on anyone paying attention. Lame Duck has no choice in who he trades for Brittany. Putin will get what he asked for, the Arms Dealer and whomever else he wants. Lame Duck outsmarted again. No Joke.

As posters #26 wrote, she’s been employed by a Russian team and has been going there for several years and would’ve been well aware of their drug laws. However I’m guessing this isn’t her first time doing this. In the past she probably hasn’t been carefully searched and just assumed that would still be the case this time. She is grossly mistaken. Could Putin and his Russian henchman be using her as a pawn, possibly. But the bottom line is, is she broke their laws, pleaded guilty of those laws in their court, and therefore must serve the time she was sentenced to in their country, in their prison. Our media can whine and wail all it wants to. None of their propaganda can change those facts.

Griner didn't construct herself in her mother's womb. While I will never support anti-Americanism, I acknowledge I've made mistakes and I don't see the need for or the joy in making ugly comments about one's personal characteristics. Both Reagan and Trump were democrats, Trump as late as 2009. No one here would view Trump as being anti-American but the democrats in 2009, led by Obama, were not exactly pristine Americans. Perhaps Griner has learned a key life lesson about her country of birth. I certainly hope so. Before I enjoyed a 30 career in law enforcement, I spent a night in a county jail in Texas, a very transformative experience. Although I wasn't convicted of a criminal offense, owing to my arrest record, the agency that hired me took a big chance in doing so. I was determined to never give the leaders of that agency cause for regret. I also lost my right to engage in public stoning. As THE MAN said, "Let he who is without sin...."

If politics and society mirror the natural world, then we might conclude that for every phenomenon there is a counter-phenomenon there to balance things out. In the context of our weekly tribute to stupidity, therefore, we would declare that for every knucklehead, there is an anti-knucklehead. That theory might not hold true in every instance, but it certainly holds true in this situation. Andrew Warren, an elected prosecutor in Hillsborough County Florida, inexplicably determined that he wasn’t merely elected to enforce the laws, he was there to write and adjudicate them as well. And then Warren ran into anti-knucklehead extraordinaire: Governor Ron DeSantis.

There’s an approach by Democrats to problem-solving that is becoming increasingly common, and it’s a tactic that focuses on our language. Rather than fixing problems, they instead attempt to either eliminate words from our daily lexicon or simply change the definition of the word. In March in the deep blue state of New Jersey, for instance, we saw the practice in action when state lawmakers eliminated the word “inmate” from their criminal code in favor of “incarcerated person.” We saw another example of it this week when the Biden Administration insisted on trying to redefine the term “recession.”

This comes as an independent pollster found that a significant number of Americans regret receiving the vaccine in the first place. 10 percent of those vaccinated said they wish they hadn’t done so, while 15 percent of adults said they have been diagnosed with a new condition by a medical practitioner weeks or months after the first dose.

In the grips of monomania, psychotic people perseverate on their object of interest. They talk about their enthusiasm incessantly and believe, wrongly, that everyone else is similarly inclined. America’s establishment, left and right, and the media, are obsessed with Donald J. Trump. Trump’s tweets, his pretend press releases, his real ones, doesn’t matter. He occupies every neuron and inflames them. With each sweaty proclamation, the monomaniacs sound increasingly unhinged. Dick Cheney called Donald Trump the greatest threat to humanity and America and all that is good and decent. And also, he’s proud of his daughter because

Sen. Lindsey Graham gave credit Sunday to President Biden for several bipartisan legislative accomplishments, such as on infrastructure, gun control and social media. The praise from the South Carolina Republican came as Senate Democrats were advancing their tax and climate spending bill along party lines, a move that has infuriated Republicans amid the highest inflation rate in four decades. “He’s signed things that made sense. The infrastructure bill, the gun thing, we’ve been working on this for years. We sort of found the sweet spot,” Mr. Graham said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”(Snip)Mr. Graham, who was interviewed with Sen. Richard Blumenthal, Connecticut Democrat, also offered kind words

The Senate has passed the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, a $740 billion climate change and healthcare spending bill that has been the result of months-long talks within the Democratic Party. No Republican lawmakers signed onto the bill, though Democrats were able to pass it via a simple majority through the budget reconciliation process. Vice President Kamala Harris cast the tie-breaking vote in the evenly divided chamber as Democrats erupted into applause at the end of their 16-hour session. A visibly emotional Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer

If Rep. Liz Cheney were trying to prove she’s the worst GOP politician in decades, what would she be doing differently? The Wyoming congresswoman, who is about to get blown out in her primary by Harriet Hageman, locked arms with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi after the 2020 election to spearhead the January 6th committee. What has followed is an exercise in partisan insanity, with proclamations of a “seven-step plan” by Trump to overthrow the government being met with no evidence at all. All the while, Cheney continues to tease bombshells that are supposedly so important that she can wait to reveal them just prior to the mid-terms.

Former President Donald Trump has often promised that he would drain the swamp that is Washington, D.C. and now, after reportedly being excluded from a briefing ahead of the public on the killing of al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, the swamp may be trying to drain him. (snip) Trump was a notable and telling exemption from the group that President Joe Biden’s administration had provided a heads-up to. After cagier responses on the matter following the initial reporting on the terrorists death, the National Security Council admitted Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama had been notified.

The US summer driving season is a bust. But that’s no bad thing. With less than a month until Labor Day, which marks the end of the peak gasoline demand season, deliveries of the fuel have dropped below the level seen during the pandemic summer of 2020. On a four-week average basis, which smooths out a lot of the noise in the weekly figures, gasoline deliveries from primary storage facilities, which the Energy Information Administration measures as a proxy for demand, slipped below those seen in the same period two years ago. Driving Season's a Bust Gasoline demand is lower

Having Republicans choose between being the “Party of Lincoln” or the “Party of Reagan” can be like asking a parent to pick a favorite child, unless the topic is strictly economics. The “new right” and the “free-market conservatives” are at war centered on their economic policy divide, forcing members of the Republican Party to choose a side: common good conservatism or free-market fundamentalists.

Former President Donald Trump once again talked about overhauling the administrative state on Saturday, telling a crowd at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Dallas that the next Congress and president need to “remove rogue bureaucrats and root out the deep state.” Trump told the CPAC audience: As we secure the border, another key priority for the next Congress and the next President will be to drain the swamp once and for all to remove rogue bureaucrats and root out the deep state. Congress should pass groundbreaking reform empowering the president to ensure that any federal employee who

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) blasted Democrats over details in a reconciliation bill that would add 87,000 more IRS workers. Cruz shared the remarks during a Senate floor speech this weekend that noted Americans are not looking for more IRS agents as an answer to the nation’s problems. “There are a lot of bad things in this bill, but few are worse than the proposal by Democrats in this bill to double the size of the IRS and create 87,000 new IRS agents,” Cruz said during his Senate floor speech. “I guarantee you citizens in every one of our states, if you ask them, ‘What do they want?’ they don’t want
