When WNBA star Brittney Griner was convicted on drug charges Thursday, she was not merely sentenced to nine years in a normal jail or prison. She was given time in a Russian penal colony, which is quite different than a normal correctional facility. Russia's penal colonies are descendants of the notorious Soviet-era gulags where prisoners have been subjected to harsh treatment and poor conditions. Prisoners in the system have been beaten by other inmates, endured torture and forced to watch Russian propaganda for hours every day in what's known as "awareness raising." Following several days of Griner's trial, which stemmed
Somehow, my 'Give a Darn Meter' is broken today. She broke the laws of a foreign country, and as such, will be punished in that country. Not our problem! All that she had to do was leave her dope at home, problem solved. Guess maybe she will learn some personal responsibility now...

Nothing more threatening to a lesbian than being sent to a PENAL colony! This administration is a joke. Trading Russian arms dealers in exchange for an American hating, knee taking liberal.

she did that all by herself.

Because she hates the USA, it won't be punishment to watch the Russian propaganda. For Griner, it would be punishment to listen to our national anthem on a continuous loop. Penal colony: leverage for "the trade"?

As Agatha Christie said in CARDS ON THE TABLE, "...stupidity is unforgiveable and punishment always the result." Brittney Griner is learning that for herself. She will now have plenty of time to continue her hatred of America. She is still young so something positive for her may eventually result, but cynicism by Lucieanne posters in understandable.

I don't recall seeing articles like this for the Marines and others who have ended up in Russian prisons. Perhaps someone should send her a copy of The Long Walk. Anyway, if she's lucky, her camp might have a basketball court.

In 2010, Putin said that author Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's descriptive assessment of Russian prisons in The Gulag Archipelago should be required reading in Russian schools. Should be required reading in American schools too.

I used to believe "It can't happen here." Then I see the treatment of the Jan 6 political prisoners, and realize it already has.
Griner got what she deserves. Trading her for a Russian arms dealer responsible for thousands of deaths would be a travesty. That Biden's handlers are even considering it shows just how depraved the administration is

Arrogance sometimes comes with a high price. She will probably get freedom with a prisoner exchange at some point. What bothers me is that we will get a fool like her back and some truly bad Russian will go free. I wonder if she will have learned anything from this dope slap.

She testified that she mistakenly packed the hash oil and vape paraphernalia in her luggage. And she is so entitled that she thought she could get away with doing it and also with the lie about it in court. Her sentence to a penal colony is karma.

American hating Griner vacations in a Russian Gulag. The irony is very, very strong. Abandoned by Lame Duck. Left to toil in a Siberian prison. America is not that bad all along is it Brittany.

SPEAKING OF GULAGS, why not write about the one that exists in Washington DC? Political Prisoners are still in jail —Solitary Confinement—from protesting the 2020 crooked election. The Democrat party is Marxist. Cheney, Pelosi, are running a sham kangaroo court. This is the most blatant act of tyranny ever to occur since the founding of this nation.

She is where she will be for a very long time (and quite possibly the rest of her life) because of her arrogance in thinking she was above the law. She is also there as a victim of bad timing with American resistance to Putin in Ukraine. We may be glad that she is being taught a lesson in comparative political systems though I doubt she returns kneeling and kissing US soil and our flag. But we should not rejoice that anyone anywhere is treated so harshly for such an offense because her punishment while legal is unjust and immoral.

If she was a likeable, normal person, an American patriot, I might care a bit more, but I'd still have the basic view that when you smuggle illegal drugs into another country you are just being incredibly stupid, and have put yourself at risk of punishment in their country. YOUR fault.
Now, in this case, she's a hateful, obnoxious, tattooed, racist, pervert who spent a great deal of effort publicizing how much she hates the USA....so I have the same view on who caused this, but I don't care at all about her because she is a rotten person.

This is what happens when you have people like Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, sports figures, celebrities, CEO's, the media (the list goes on) bashing America and young people think it is okay. They think they can bash America and do the same in another country. Such disrespect for your own country plays out in how you treat other countries. Where did Brittany think she was going? For that matter, why wasn't the WNBA setting up guidelines for their players? Probably because these organizations think they can bash America, disrespect other countries, and nothing will come of it. After all, these are big organizations with big money and can do whatever they please. Sheesh, what are we thinking - I guess everyone should bow to the WNBA. Not. I bow to God only.

The propaganda continues, and it is from the United Press International. Once again we are told to read something about a nation that has not been the Soviet Union for amost 30 years ..and which is using some older buildings.

Somebody, please tell me. is Griner a biological male or female? DNA? I am so confused. If male it is not a she. It's a he. Has a very deep voice for a femme. Just the facts, man, maam. Whatever. Bad for it to be in a Siberian labor camp.

Even if she was a likable, pleasant patriotic American, my view would be that she did violate their drug laws, and should have known better, and she did this to herself -- but I might be sympathetic.
But, since she's an obnoxious, hateful, racist pervert who spent a lot of extra effort to publicize her hatred of the USA, I'll have the same view that she should have known better, and she did this to her self -- except I'm not even a little bit sympathetic.

She traveled to another country with a substance that is illegal there. She is guilty as charged, regardless of whether the country is Russia or France. International travelers have a responsibility to know the law in the countries they’re traveling in, especially related to drugs. I don’t feel a bit sorry for her. This wouldn’t even be in the news if she were not a black lesbian.

#26 ... According to an article I read, Ms. Greiner was born as a hermaphrodite (both male and female genital parts). At birth, her parents elected to keep her female parts, but obviously, much of her body developed with male attributes (height, strength, depth of voice).
That being said, she's responsible for what she did. It looks like she's going to have to pay the price, because our government is botching any "negotiation" with the Russians by doing it publicly and by ticking off the Russian leaders that would have to sign off on any such deal.
I sure would not want a friend or family member to have to endure the problems she could see for the next 9-10 years or even the last six months. A Russian prison or labor camp is not a pleasant place to be and if she survives, any sports career is finished. Even if she is released, be it through a prisoner swap or other means, her athletic career is probably signficantly ruined as most female basketball players have to compete in foreign leagues besides the WNBA. That source of income is probably no longer available to her.

How many trips crossing international borders does it take for someone to recognize that you never ever pack drugs in your luggage? It 's common sense! Of course, common sense is lacking in our vulgar, it's-all-about-me society.

I think this person is a biological male based on the low voice, Adam’s apple visible, no breasts and no visible mastectomy scars. I would love this person to get DNA test and have it made public. Obviously this person thought they were above the law regarding possessing the illegal stuff in Russia (of all places!).

While the J6 travesty is unconstitutional and unjustified, losing a year of one's life in jail is nothing compared to what Solzhenitsyn describes in that book. Full blown, unchecked communism is hell on earth. We can not let this country get any closer than it is now.
