Blake Masters has won Arizona’s Republican U.S. Senate primary, according to a projection early Wednesday morning from Cook Political Report’s Dave Wasserman. “I’ve seen enough: Blake Masters (R) wins the #AZSEN GOP primary and will face Sen. Mark Kelly (D) in the fall. @CookPolitical November rating: Toss Up,” Wasserman tweeted. Masters, a former Silicon Valley venture capitalist who grew up in Arizona, earned nearly 37 percent of the vote at the time of Wasserman’s projection. Masters’ 37 percent put him seven points and roughly 40,000 votes ahead of the next closest challenger, businessman Jim Lamon.

Interesting. Last night, I thought Fox News was saying he would lose when all of the Maricopa voters came in.

FTA: "Masters’ 37 percent put him seven points and roughly 40,000 votes ahead of the next closest challenger, businessman Jim Lamon. Masters came on top in a field of five Republican candidates with the help of an endorsement from former President Donald Trump." So, winning with roughly one-third of the votes cast statewide..."with the help of an endorsement from former President Donald Trump." That leaves nearly two-thirds unmoved by FPDT's endorsement, doesn't it?

Unclear about #4’s comment. In a field of five candidates it is unlikely that anyone will win a large percentage of the vote, let alone the majority. Masters won the plurality. Did Trump’s endorsement help? I don’t know. What I do know is that Masters ran as one who embraced Trump’s MAGA agenda. Trump therefore was a sideline winner in that race.

There’s an old adage that goes something like this: When Christians die they go to heaven and when socialists die they go to communism. Make no mistake, when American leftists such as Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez extol the virtues of so-called ‘Democratic Socialism,’ what their hearts truly desire is Non-Democratic Communism. A common thread linking the two political philosophies is their overriding mindset toward wealth. Both socialism and communism are ideologies of envy and greed. You got it… they want it. In both cases, their solutions are government. The more government control the better, because government knows best.

The talk of an upcoming ‘red wave’ being produced by this November’s general election began in earnest over a year ago, once it became clear that the presidency of Joe Biden was headed for complete disaster. The Democratic Party’s grip on the White House may be secure for another two-plus years, but their control of Congress is exceptionally tenuous, with razor-thin margins giving them the majority in both houses. The overtaking of both the House of Representatives and the Senate in three months is undoubtedly there for the Republicans’ taking, and they should be able to put Democrats back in the minority without much difficulty.

The House GOP leadership has released a brief and vague two-page policy platform on border security for the 2022 election, after more than a year of inaction. Titled “House Republicans: We Must Secure the Southern Border,” the low-drama paper ignores the voter-mobilizing, economic impact of legal and illegal migration, and was released on a Friday before the weekend. But the platform does include significant promises of 2023 legislation to reform current laws on asylum, parole, and other high-profile issues outside the narrow issue of border control.

The conventional wisdom regarding the infamous leak in early May of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito’s draft version of the majority opinion in the Dobbs V. Jackson case concluded that it was perpetrated by someone on the staff of one of the three leftwing justices: Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor, and Stephen Breyer. The motivation of the leaker, it has been assumed, was that alerting the American public to the upcoming ruling would result in such outrage from the left in America that activists, and their compliant media, would apply so much pressure to those justices in the majority that they would change

Typically, an incumbent president in their first term in office tends not to be challenged for their party’s nomination in pursuit of a second term, but it’s certainly not unprecedented for such a president to “be primaried.” In these situations, the sitting president is opposed by candidates in their own party and forced to defeat these challengers in the primary elections for the privilege of representing their party in the subsequent general election. In 1992, for instance, President George H.W. Bush was primaried by Pat Buchanan. In 1976, President Gerald Ford was primaried by Ronald Reagan, and perhaps most famously, in 1980

If you want to see grace under pressure, Lee Zeldin is your man. Making a speech, having somebody attack you with a blade, deflecting said blade, and finishing your speech—that’s about as grace-under-pressure-ish as you can get. It’s exactly what Ernest Hemingway had in mind when he used those words, “grace under pressure,” to describe the essence of courage. Furthermore, if you think that liberal anti-law and anti-order policies are a farce, the attack on Zeldin, a Republican member of Congress now running for governor of New York, is your proof. As Breitbart News’ John Binder wrote of the Empire State’s turn ‘em loose policies,

The fact that our Second Amendment right to bear arms is protected, or better stated “shall not be infringed,” is one that irks our friends on the left, perhaps more so than any other Constitutional right. Their attitude tends to be, “Damn you and your rights, we’ll do all the infringing we want.” They typically crank up their volume on such assertions after a tragic school shooting and do their best to ignore episodes that show the benefit of private gun ownership. After two brutal incidents in Uvalde, Texas, and Buffalo, New York, in May, gun rights opponents were pushing hard on their narrative. Assault weapons are unnecessary, they told us.

The cargo is worth some $70 million at market prices,” Reuters reported at the time.

The money will be ladled out over nine years and comes with few strings attached. The main Democratic command is for the tax agency to bring the hammer down on taxpayers.

Americans are no strangers to “times that try men’s souls,” to borrow a phrase from Thomas Paine. By mid-1945, the United States had been at war for three-and-a-half years, enduring the draft, separation from loved ones, mounting numbers of casualties, and rationing, with no end in sight. Many Americans were weary, not unlike our feelings now, after two-and-a-half years of privations and anguish related to the COVID-19 pandemic. That sense of anxiety and the widespread desire to return to normality brought to mind how World War II was suddenly – and to many, unexpectedly – resolved.

Craft breweries across America have been on the front lines of businesses facing higher material costs because of inflation. Now, many are confronting a shortage of a key ingredient: carbon dioxide, the gas that gives beer its crisp, effervescent taste. And one brewer has already said it plans to shut down a key manufacturing plant and lay off workers as a result. Night Shift Brewing, in Everett, Massachusetts, just outside Boston, cited the CO2 shortage as the reason it is suspending operations at its longtime facility and outsourcing to nearby locations instead. "Come October 1, we won’t likely have jobs for many of this team," the company said in a statement on Instagram.
