On Wednesday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Jesse Watters Primetime,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) stated that Democrats blocked legislation he proposed in 2013 to bolster school security and keep firearms out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill by keeping it from reaching the 60-vote threshold.
Cruz said, “In 2013, I introduced legislation that would spend $300 million on federal grants to harden schools to make them safer, to make them more protected. The Democrats filibustered that legislation. I’ve introduced legislation to say schools like this elementary school behind me can get federal grants to harden their security, to put in bulletproof doors,

Cruz should be preaching to McConnell & his friends for not sending aid to schools for security measures instead of to Ukraine!

As a veteran, former cop, I'd gladly volunteer my time to patrol a local school with an armed presence. Sadly, school districts and the US Dept. of Un education, want their "gun free zones," or shooting galleries kept intact, so expect more shootings.

The problem is, you can have all the Security in place, but if one person forgets to shut a door all the security is useless. I think this is what happened in TX (if I read it right). They did have doors locked and other security, but someone left a back door open ( maybe went out for a smoke or a phone conversation). There needs to be a panel in the Principal's office that shows ALL doors are locked. If one is opened, a Buzzer or Bell needs to alert someone which door is open! Also, Someone in that Building needs to be Armed. By the time Law Enforcement gets the call and arrives at the School, it's already too late!

If the schools are protected, they cannot be used to push for total gun confiscation.

Curious how many of these young shooters or other criminals have been treated with psychotic drugs. It’s risky to add a medical check as a prerequisite for gun ownership because Democrats would use any angle to deny a purchase. Psychotic drugs were not a concern when the second amendment was written.

There is too much federal money in local schools which leads to DC bureaucratic controls. We need to take back control of everything at State and local levels.
Marx has been superceded - religion is no longer the opium of the masses, it has been replaced by federal money.

Dear Senator Cruz,
with all due respect, I would like to say that,
it is not the duty of the federal government to "harden" school security.
Education has always been a local concept and should remain as such so, please, keep the federal government out of our schools and let the local governments refine this concept of school security and, most of all, school curriculum and study material.

The Left has taken God and armed cops out of schools. They've railed against police. They want to defund police. They've known about nutters and done nothing about them. And they've failed to secure the border. In their own Lefty cities, they cannot tamp down crime. Think Chicago on any given weekend.
The easy thing to do? Blame the weapon and Republicans. Remember, these are the same people who cannot keep baby formula on the shelves.

Its being reported that the Uvalde Elementary School was equipped with exterior security doors, but that for some yet undetermined reason one of those exterior doors was left open by an undetermined person or persons, allowing the perpetrator to gain entry to the school. It’s odd that at the time when the perpetrator was outside the school being challenged by the school security officer that the perpetrator was still able to find the open door and get into the school where he raised havoc, so maybe that door was left open frequently and the perpetrator knew that. Hopefully the authorities in Texas will conduct a competent investigation into the murders and will determine who left that security door open and why? As the government could spend trillions on physical security to place effective physical security throughout the schools, but if a physical security door, or doors, are left unlocked for convenience or other reasons all that will be a waste of time and of course is very dangerous for students and their teachers.
