In what conservatives will surely label a “sell-out” by Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), the Senate Minority Leader on Thursday “encouraged” Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn (R-Texas) to work with Senate Democrats to “find a consensus on some legislation to respond to the shooting in Texas.”
Translation: Gun-control legislation.
As reported by CNN, McConnell met with Cornyn early Thursday and encouraged the senior senator from Texas to begin discussions with key Democrats, including Sens. Chris Murphy of Connecticut and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, to see if they can find a middle ground on legislation.

No, we need to push for MORE gun rights, FEWER restrictions on gun owners.
McConnell is more of a leftist than he is a Constitutionalist. Not a good person, I keep hoping to hear that he is leaving "for health reasons". but no luck so far.

How despicable for Republicans to consider working with treasonable Democrats who do nothing but fight Republicans and who want to destroy the culture and history of what was once a great country.
We should play this game by our own rules.
Oh, how I miss Donald Trump!

Unlike most posters here, I am all for working with the Democrats on gun control. Let's see if we can get them to agree with 1) mandatory 10 years in prison for anyone using a gun in the commission of a crime, 2) mandatory death sentence for murder, 3) mandatory psych ward for anyone threatening to kill with a gun on a social media post, and 4) leave law abiding citizens the heck alone.

They could lock school doors. And require security officers to actually be at the school working. In this case, the doors were unlocked, and the 6 security officers were somewhere else. They could provide something more substantial to police officers that a sidearm. And officers could receive some basic assault training, such as advancing behind something, with shooters in back positions providing cover. The officers in this case seemed devoid of any thinking.

After so-called cross aisle negotiations, the vast majority of the time, simply end up with the wimpy Republicans caving and passing liberal Democrat sponsored legislation.

This is the usual strategy after a high profile tragedy. It’s how politicians make themselves look responsible and reasonable. But nothing will happen. Both sides have too much riding on the lack of a solution.

Instead of working on gun confiscation, do something about the mentally ill. You closed down mental hospitals, won’t allow judges to commit the mentally ill…what did you expect? Rainbows and unicorns?
