Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes entered the Wisconsin Democratic Senate primary with all the makings of an automatic front-runner: statewide name recognition, a national profile, big endorsements and a cushy lead in early polling. Then a multimillionaire opponent plowed more than $5 million into a flood of TV ads — all while Barnes was dark. (Snip) It all culminated this week in a burst of activity as Barnes and his allies moved to reignite the star power that once made the only Black candidate in the field the early favorite to face Republican incumbent Sen. Comments:

Sounds like Mandela expected to coast to victory based on his 'star power'.

Ron Johnson has been a real beacon of hope in the mRNA shot debacle. He should be re-elected, but I don't know about Wisconsin. There are some real pockets of pure, uncut Communism in the state, like Madison.

That never trump rove romney bush mentality is strong with the party regulars, state wide. Good news, they control the apparatus but are very short on leadership abilities. Kenosha recognizes that as a burned out city, it was just a pawn in the game of life and is swinging back to the center. Hispanic Wisconsin in several areas wants nothing to do with government, much less white liberal government or BLM mouthpieces, like Barnes. So the biggest problem is affluent once republican suburbs full of wokes moms and dads who are a generatin or two removed from patriiotism and Church. Still Ron Johnson is antiswamp tea party guy who reluctantly ran for a third term. The other democrat is a son of a hedge fund guy, 35 years old with Ukranian ties and makes one think of Hunter Biden, without the pictures of hookers and crack pipes. Clinton connections.

Sounds like the Dems think all Wisconsin is to campaign in Madison and Milwaukee. Sounds like another "stuff the ballot boxes " trick to me Top of the ticket -- Gov. Evers -- is dead weight. Saw a great yard sign in Green Bay last fall ... "Worst Governor EVERS"

A leading adviser to the World Health Organization described the unprecedented outbreak of the rare disease monkeypox in developed countries as "a random event" that might be explained by risky sexual behavior at two recent mass events in Europe. In an interview with The Associated Press, Dr. David Heymann, who formerly headed WHO's emergencies department, said the leading theory to explain the spread of the disease was sexual transmission among gay and bisexual men at two raves held in Spain and Belgium. Monkeypox has not previously triggered widespread outbreaks beyond Africa, where it is endemic in animals. "We know monkeypox

DENVER – It used to be the source of bragging rights in Denver; a ranking in the top five of the best places to live in the country as ranked by US News and World Report. But, last year Denver dropped to 14th on the list. This year, the Mile High City is all the way down to 55th. No doubt the cost of living in the city has hurt its reputation. The Federal Reserve’s efforts to slow inflation are raising the possibility of higher unemployment, a slower-growing economy and a recession, prospects that could create new headaches for the Biden administration. As the country heads into midterm-election season, much of the political discussion has centered around solid economic growth and robust employment versus the damaging impact of inflation. More recently, warnings about the prospect of an economic downturn—which could come in 2023 according to some estimates—have complicated the economic picture in a new way. Mr. Biden and his advisers are already grappling with inflation trending near a four-decade high, wavering consumer

Karine Jean-Pierre made her historic debut as White House press secretary this week. And after watching her first four performances as the president’s spokesperson, only one word sums it all up: amateur. To be sure, White House press secretary is one of the hardest white-collar jobs in the world, if not the hardest. Oftentimes, as we witnessed with Jean-Pierre’s predecessor, Jen Psaki, the job calls for defending the indefensible. And when 79 percent of voters believe the country is headed in the wrong direction, and when the public’s approval of the president’s handling of the economy and the border is

As the sun set on Millennium Park a day after the extraordinary move by the mayor to limit teens’ access to the city’s premier outdoor space, a janitor quietly swept away the simple, stark memorial of tea lights that were arranged in the number “16.” The small white candles to commemorate a Chicago teenager who was shot and killed at The Bean were there for less than an hour as tourists walked by. After sweeping the lights that represented the teen’s age into his dustpan, the janitor said he didn’t know what they were even there for. Gun-violence memorials, while

The Pennsylvania Republican U.S. Senate primary election is still too close to call, the Associated Press reported Friday. As of 5 p.m. Friday, just 1,079 votes separated Mr. Oz from Mr. McCormick. Mr. Oz was leading Mr. McCormick by 0.08%, which is well within the requirements for an automatic

SEOUL — One of President Biden’s security officers was arrested and accused of assaulting a South Korean citizen in Seoul a few hours before Biden arrived in the country, according to South Korean police. The individual was detained early Thursday, an official with Seoul’s Yongsan district police said Friday. The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the incident, declined to comment further. South Korea’s Chosun Ilbo newspaper, which first reported the case Friday, said the suspect was allegedly drunk and got into a fight with a South Korean over a taxi

California energy officials issued a sobering warning this month, telling residents to brace for potential blackouts as the state’s energy grid faces capacity constraints heading into the summer months. And since the state has committed to phase out all new gas-powered vehicles by 2035 — well ahead of federal targets — the additional load from electric vehicle (EV) charging could add more strain to the electric grid. “Let’s say we were to have a substantial number of [electric] vehicles charging at home as everybody dreams,” Ram Rajagopal, an associate professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University, who authored

For regular readers of this site, today’s news will likely not come as a surprise, but much of the nation seems to remain unaware of it. The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) has released its latest reliability assessment for the summer of 2022 and, to put it mildly, the news is not good. In far too many states, the power grid is already nearly at full capacity, and in the next few months, that capacity will be exceeded. This isn’t a question of “if” or really even “when.” It’s just a fact. Industry experts know this and have been trying to sound the alarm for several years.

McKinnon, 38, won two Emmys and was nominated for nine in her 10 seasons on the show, during which her impressions included Hillary Clinton, and former Attorney General Jeff Sessions.  CORRECTION*

The call to action comes on the heels of threats from the Kremlin and warnings from Russian diplomats that the country’s Ukraine invasion could lead to a nuclear strike, the Utah Republican wrote in an op-ed for The New York Times.
