The San Francisco Examiner's editorial board wrote a scathing rebuke of the city’s archbishop, Salvatore Cordileone, after he announced he would deny Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., Holy Communion, over her staunch support for abortion. (snip) In response, the liberal editorial board blasted the Catholic leader for "punishing" Pelosi, instead of "right-wing politicians" who "[vote] against health care or funding for the poor."
They defended Pelosi as a leader who has "consistently fought on the morally right side of these issues," and praised her as a role model for women.
The editorial board argued that by denying Pelosi Holy Communion, the archbishop wasn’t being loyal to Christ.

Archbishop Cordileone did not punish Pelosi. Akin to the grades which students earn for themselves, he merely publicized what she had done to herself.

I don't think the Examiner can blame the right for the way SF has allowed the suffering of the mentally ill, drug addicts, etc. on the streets in the city --- neglect that is literally killing people!

The archbishop is not the archbishop of the San Francisco Examiner's editorial board (which I doubt has had a Christian of any type on it in many, many years).
No, he is the archbishop of the Catholics in the pews every Sunday. And most of them have been utterly disgusted that the bishops have not been taking this type of action against these pro-death politicians for many years!!!!
Please, Lord, let this be the first of many such actions to come!!!!!!

I forgot that there was a San Francisco Examiner.
But I do remember that the Examiner's tactic is not the way the Church works. The author of the post might want to review the Vatican's tunnels of info. The rules of the game have been settled for almost 2,000 years so far.

Her own actions did this. By being a prominent public figure obstinately persisting in manifest grave sin, she made it scandalous to act as if she is in communion with the Church.
But it may go farther than that. By going from upholding an old SCOTUS ruling to pushing an extreme abortion "rights" legislation, she may have even excommunicated herself. It depends on how material participation in abortion is interpreted.

"The editorial board argued that by denying Pelosi Holy Communion, the archbishop wasn’t being loyal to Christ. "
The editorial board, and Pelosi herself, should be made aware that creating a God in their own image, who must obey and support their own social and political ambitions and expectations, is not only the height of arrogance but the worst form of blasphemy and heresy. (Matthew 18.6 and Luke 17.2, are UNEQUIVOCAL on the matter)

This paper demands that when God's law is in direct conflict with man's law, Catholics should support man's law. They are wrong. Also, they praise Pelosi's works, completely ignoring the fact that Christ told each one of us to help the poor, not outsource it to our government. It is not charity when you are using other people's money.

Not as crazy an idea as some seem to think!
Sadly, this Pope agreed quite awhile back to allow the Chinese communist government to "approve" of the bishop for Beijing and other major cities in China. Use a search engine you can trust and look up Pope Francis' comments supporting this dastardly deal. If the Chi-Coms object --- the cardinal gets replaced!
It is a very uneasy time in the Roman Catholic Church right now.

Cordileone has guts. His fortitude exceeds the Holy Father's. They should promote Cordileone to cardinal. Bear in mind that the legislation pushed by Pelosi and Schumer would have permited abortion up to one day before birth--far more murderous than Roe v. Wade.

I actually figured from the first that the pope would overrule this good bishop, if not remove him. (Pelosi and the pope are fellow travelers, worshiping the same entity, and it isn't God)) And I also figured that most priests that encountered Pelosi would be glad to give her bread and wine.
