More than 100 students attended a career summit Sunday designed to encourage women of color to enter the medical field. The inaugural Black Women With Stethoscopes event hosted by Hennepin Healthcare offered young women ages 12-18 hands-on classes on work like dentistry and surgery. Some learned how to draw IVs or put in a breathing tube. Dr. Nneka Sederstrom, chief health equity officer at Hennepin Healthcare, said her goal is to address the lack of diversity in hospital staff.

First, they need to go to school, stay in school, and learn the skills necessary to go into the medical field, nursing, laboratories, etc. They need safe schools, safe for teachers and students. No CRT, or other destructive trash. By the way, they need to get their young men on the same path, and hopefully they will want to return and serve their communities.

Our closest blood draw specialty office for Quest is a one person operation. A nice middle aged black lady runs the office and does the draws. She's a real expert at it, and I always go there, and thank her for doing a great job. Not that blacks can't do this, but I am worried that the folks selecting are selecting on skin color NOT COMPETENCE or other merit. That is wrong.

Wasn't it just last week we read about a black med student boasting on social media about purposely doing extra jabs on white folks while doing IVs/blood draws, etc? We can certainly assume all black female medical professionals are racist and guilty of this since every white person, ever, owned slaves. Turnabout is fair play.

Back about 3 decades ago, a California medical school, (may have been UCLA, although I'm not sure) decided that not enough blacks went to medical school, so they created a summer program for black pre-teens. The kids were given white jackets and stethoscopes, and addressed as "Doctor." It never occurred to the real doctors that kids have a grasp of reality that made the program a joke.

Another program to "encourage women of color to enter the medical field." In the past few years I cannot recall any interaction with a male doctor, nor a white one. My docs have invariably been female, primarily Indian, with a few other Asian nationalities represented. In fact, I cannot recall even seeing a male doc. Meanwhile, one wonders why males are fewer and fewer on the campi nationwide. Check out the evolution of veterinary medicine, and the consequences of the profession becoming overwhelmingly female.

Minnesota could become a destination for abortion services for women from other states if the U.S. Supreme Court throws out the landmark Roe v. Wade decision, and the state's abortion providers said Tuesday that they're preparing for the anticipated surge. That's because abortion would remain legal, at least for now, under a 1995 Minnesota Supreme Court ruling known as Doe v. Gomez, which effectively established a right to abortion under the state constitution, said Laura Hermer, a professor at the Mitchell Hamline School of Law.

The company at the center of a baby formula crisis could face criminal charges, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Tuesday, as Democrats considered new government controls over the baby formula industry. “I think there might be a need for indictment,” said Mrs. Pelosi, who has realigned the House agenda to address a baby formula shortage. Democrats are also considering legislation that would give the federal government more control over the supply and distribution of formula, particularly when shortages arise. The plan would require formula companies to report inventory to the Food and Drug Administration, which could then move supplies from one state to another to fill empty shelves.
