Biden Administration Invoke Defense Production
Act, HHS Will Now Control Means of Production
for Baby Formula and Ensure Distribution Equity

Original Article

Do you know what it’s technically called when “government takes control of the means of production?” Yeah, that. This afternoon Joe Biden invoked the Defense Production Act giving Health and Human Services the legal authority to control the supplies needed for the creation of baby formula (how it is made), and the authority to determine distribution equity (who gets it). White House – “[T]he authority of the President conferred by section 101 of the Act to require performance of contracts or orders … is delegated to the Secretary of Health and Human Services with respect to all health resources, including the ingredients necessary to manufacture infant formula.”

Comments:

Let me guess the order of priorities: #1, illegal immigrants. #2, mothers on WIC. That will about use up the supplies, since all government can produce is shortages. Sorry, suburban families.

Ya get what ya vote for! Hope moms remember this in November. Abbott said it’s all lies. The production of baby formula did not have to be shut down. Government broke it, now government will “fix” it and all will be well. All going as planned

This should scare the bejesus out of any thinking person. Government is going to control baby formula? #8 is correct. It will be a political act. The nose of the camel is under the tent, therefore, expect more control. He who controls the food, controls the population for our own good, of course. Now, can we agree this administration is evil and has done nothing to benefit the lives of the American people? A coup is a terrible thing because it never comes from the good guys. Evil has entrenched itself in our government and has no intention of letting up on crisis after crisis that could have been avoided. Crises are the driving force the pushes forward government control.

Invocation of this Act is illegal. Read the law and it's very clear. But, then, PDT did it to look like a hero ordering the emergency manufacture of respirators that ultimately sat unused...but we were at war with COVIDS, some opined. Now who are we at war with? And what facility will pump out the baby formula? Maybe Ford Motor Company can rise to the bait again. With these precedents and no objections, watch the DPA used time and again in crises big and small without regard for the clear intent of the law. Let's talk about government controls of industry and production, comrades.

Biden has publicly said he would have had to be “a mind reader” to figure out that when the U.S. Government (FDA) shutdown the Abbot baby formula plant, from last February to now, that supplied about 40% of the baby formula used across the USA, would have caused a massive shortage of baby formula in the USA! Since such figuring is pretty much elementary, what would happen if Biden is faced with working through complex situations?

As an addition to #16 - Know who pushed PDT into using the DPA? Candidate Joe Biden, who on 22 March 2020 “reiterated his call for the president to invoke the ‘full power of the Defense Production Act’ and noted he called for that a month ago.” Ironically, PDT held off saying, " "We're a country not based on nationalizing our business. Call a person over in Venezuela, ask him, how did nationalization of their businesses work out?...Not a good concept." And then PDT invoked the Act anyway. Yeah, it's all a commie plot, alright.

"Fascism" Where socialism sought totalitarian control of a society’s economic processes through direct state operation of the means of production, fascism sought that control indirectly, through domination of nominally private owners. Where socialism nationalized property explicitly, fascism did so implicitly, by requiring owners to use their property in the “national interest”—that is, as the autocratic authority conceived it. (Nevertheless, a few industries were operated by the state.) Where socialism abolished all market relations outright, fascism left the appearance of market relations while planning all economic activities. Where socialism abolished money and prices, fascism controlled the monetary system and set all prices and wages politically. In doing all this, fascism denatured the marketplace. Entrepreneurship was abolished. State ministries, rather than consumers, determined what was produced and under what conditions. Under fascism, the state, through official cartels, controlled all aspects of manufacturing, commerce, finance, and agriculture. Planning boards set product lines, production levels, prices, wages, working conditions, and the size of firms. Licensing was ubiquitous; no economic activity could be undertaken without government permission. Levels of consumption were dictated by the state, and “excess” incomes had to be surrendered as taxes or “loans.” The consequent burdening of manufacturers gave advantages to foreign firms wishing to export.

I taught English at Yale University for ten years. I had some vivid, idiosyncratic students—people who went on to write novels, devote themselves to their church, or just wander the world for a few years. But mostly I taught what one of them herself called “excellent sheep.” These students were excellent, technically speaking. They were smart, focused, and ferociously hard-working. But they were also sheep: stunted in their sense of purpose, waiting meekly for direction, frequently anxious and lost. I was so struck by this—that our “best and brightest” students are so often as helpless as children—that I wrote a book about it.

The Biden administration privately acknowledged late last month that a mathematical error is delaying the federal government’s offshore oil and gas program. In an April 29 letter to industry leaders obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation, the head of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says that a subagency “discovered a miscalculation” that has caused a massive backlog in permitting. Richard Spinrad acknowledged in his letter that the National Marine Fisheries Service—the subagency tasked with analyzing the impact of offshore drilling projects on wildlife—has used faulty computer modeling on such impacts. As a result, Spinrad wrote, the subagency overestimated wildlife effects, delaying permitting on existing leases.

Commenter KK’s impassioned defense of Russia against the (to him) “blind hatred” of Poles got me thinking. I’ve been doing some reading lately regarding the path to perpetual war in Europe—after all, the current conflict in Ukraine can arguably be seen as simply the continuation of a civilizational crisis in the West that first took military form in the Napoleonic wars. Certainly the inevitable centrality of Russia to Western Europe’s future can be dated at least that far back. What is different about this dynamic since WW2 is the overwhelming presence of the United States in the equation. Just a short while ago I came across this interesting thread.
