Ukraine accuses Russia of seizing grain

Ukrainian officials on Saturday accused Russian forces of seizing grain in contested regions of Ukraine as fears of a looming food security crisis linger amid the ongoing war. Together, Russia and Ukraine account for nearly a third of the world’s wheat exports, and western officials fear exports could fall precipitously below pre-invasion levels. “Today, there are confirmed facts that several hundred thousand tons of grain in total were taken out of the Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Donetsk and Luhansk regions,” Ukraine’s Deputy Agriculture Minister Taras Vysotsky told Ukrainian television on Saturday. With a global economy already battered by pandemic-related supply chain constraints, the war in Ukraine has led to even sharper

Comments:

Starving out the civilian population of women and children and the elderly by destroying crops and killing farm animals was a key tactic of the great Yankee war hero William Tecumseh Sherman. How could anyone object to Russia doing the same thing?

This is why you ALWAYS keep enough food production and manufacruring inside your own damn country!! You can always sell the excess. You can't purchase self reliance after the fact!

It is war, you know. That’s why we try to avoid it by threatening great powers by telling them we’ll put whatever weapon systems on their border that pleases us. I’m sure joe is morally outraged. After all his family has looted Ukraine so he should know. And he only killed 7 children in Afghanistan, but he never thinks about that. And never did.

That is exactly how those regions happened to be populated with Russian speaking people. Stalin's troops took all the grain, killed all the animals to starve the uncooperative Ukrainians in the 1930s. Once the Ukrainians were dead, Stalin moved in compliant Russian peasants to replace them. The definition of genocide. And KGB Putin, following in Stalin's evil footsteps.

RE#4 To provide more information: The Ukrainians call it The Holodomor. From 1932-1933 Stalin essentially starved the Ukrainians and took for Mother Russia whatever harvest there was. The population of Ukraine dropped by 13%. Afterwards, the ethnic Russians were moved in to take the land. Is it any wonder why so many former Warsaw Pact counties would happily see Russia burned to the ground?

During the time of the USSR, the Ukraine was the bread basket of the Soviet Union. The farmers identified as Russians. Imagine if California was given back to Mexico.

Kathy Boudin, who spent decades in prison for her part in the deadly 1981 Brink’s armored truck heist as a member of the radical militant group Weather Underground, died of cancer at the age of 78 in New York on Sunday. In October 1981, Boudin and members of the group teamed up with the Black Liberation Army for the robbery to help fund their anti-government campaigns. They targeted a Brink’s armored truck, which they held up in Rockland County, making off with $1.6 million. During the robbery, gunmen killed Brink’s security guard Peter Paige before transferring the money to a U-Haul truck a mile away,

Asian-American groups are getting $20 million in the new New York State budget to fight an alarming tide of hate crimes that has shaken local communities. The money in the $220 billion annual budget deal falls short of the amount Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) organizations had sought, but it doubles last year’s funding. “The Asian American community has never been properly accounted for in the state budget,” state Sen. John Liu told the Daily News Sunday. “The need is unprecedented because everybody is painfully aware of the anti-Asian hate that has accompanied COVID,” the Queens Democrat said. The “Ghost of Kyiv” is a myth, Ukrainian officials admitted over the weekend. After several news outlets last week identified the legendary, mysterious, hero fighter pilot as a 29-year-old dad recently killed in battle with the Russians, military officials acknowledged Saturday that there was no such person. “The ghost of Kyiv is a superhero-legend, whose character was created by Ukrainians!” Ukraine’s Air Force Command wrote on Facebook.(Snip)“Hero of Ukraine Stepan Tarabalka is NOT ‘Ghost of Kyiv’ and he did NOT shoot down 40 planes,” said the country’s Air Force Command. As many as 18,000 migrants could cross the southern border daily once the Trump-era Title 42 health regulation is lifted, increasing the strain on federal officials already stretched thin trying to contain the crisis, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas admitted on Sunday. “Title 42 is a public health authority.
