All Hillary Schubach wanted to do is something good for the environment. But after switching to driving a plug-in electric sedan, she quickly realized a new complication of apartment living: Access to a charging station. Schubach’s hardly alone. Even as it appears electric car sales are hitting a tipping point, those living in apartments and condominiums around the nation can find it difficult, expensive or outright impossible to find a way to plug in when they’re at home. With nearly one out of three households living in apartments or condominiums, the goal of switching to electric vehicles to fight climate
And I wonder how many Americans know that the Germans will not allow electric cars to be parked in public garages because they are such a toxic fire hazard. Just watched a video where 4 electric vehicles were charging at one station and one caught fire and all four went up in less than 2 minutes and the article said they were having a hard time getting rid of the burnt out vehicles because there were no places that would accept the toxic waste left behind. Think about that one my little nitwits.

Had a rental car cause my car was in the shop, they gave me a plug-in EV, I plugged it into an outlet in my garage and it took 8 hours to charge. A charge didn't last a day. I haven't got my electric bill but to me it seemed worthless.

Our local electric coop installed a charging station at their office. They reported in their newsletter that an average of 9 different users used thr charging station in an average month.

This is what happens when you believe the spiel from the government about "global warming"...oh wait, "climate change". It's just another cliff they're driving the herd to. Wokesters tryna get their brownie points. They never thought to look for a place to charge up. They think they can charge on an extension cord. They end up with a car they can tootle around town in, but can't get to St. Louis on 5 charges, each taking hours to complete, unless they use the "rapid charger" which can burn their buggy to the ground
What are they going to do when the batteries die? The cheapest battery I know of exceeds $10,000. MOST are two to three times more. As soon as the subsidies evaporate, these people will face the REAL COSTS of this technology and by that time, the world's supply of lithium will be gone. Let me tell you kids, there's WAY fewer years of lithium in the ground than crude.
Electric vehicles will not be really feasible until power technology improves about 100% and it's price comes down immensely, and it can't rely on expensive elements of decidedly finite supply.

Once these become more commonplace, people will be late getting home forget to charge and we’ll see them stopped along and in the road. Unfortunately they will all have to be towed since AAA can’t bring you a 5 gallon can of electricity.

Why should anyone applaud her precipitous rush to judgment. The ''Obama Types'' want us to give up single dwellings and move into crowded tenements with communal bath stalls? A fine lot of good your EV will do you there; especially if you cannot plug it in anywhere close by. If prayers are answered, regardless of what the Tesla company wishes, EVs will be a thing of the past in 3 or 4 short years.

And all for a zero emissions car. But the increased load on power generation plants (70% are fossil fuel) causes more EMISSIONS. Out of sight out of mind won't "save the planet". But that doesn't matter. Seems like a lot of money and hassle for "NIMBY"... or not in my back bumper. This is nearly as stupid as burning food grown and processed with fossil fuels in our gas tanks.

Somebody please inform these apartment-dwelling electric vehicle owners that apartment buildings do not provide on-premise gas stations for tenants who drive gas-powered cars, so why should they offer charging stations? Go to a charging station, virtue warriors.
Also, your coal-powered car is NOT zero-emission. It just emits its pollutants in somebody else's back yard where your electricity is generated.

If you have even been to New York City and observed the millions of automobiles and trucks parked all over the place on the streets in residential areas of the city, clearly it would be impossible to recharge the necessary batteries in those vehicles if only 10% of them were electric and needed to be plugged in to recharge.

Dah….Really? She should have thought of this before buying. This is one reason why electric cars will fail. Charging will have to be able to be done at filling stations and be as fast as filling up a tank of gas. A charge will also have to get the same miles as a tank of gas before they become a viable practical viable alternative

OP, As I understand it, you have to have more than a regular electrical socket. I have been told that need an electrician to install an outlet which is like the outlet for your stove or dryer. I don’t think that gets much mention in the media. They want you to think that everything is in place to go green, but the reality is far from it. They are like snake oil salesmen and they know it which is why you don’t hear any downsides when it comes to electric cars.
I love the look of Teslas but don’t let them kid you. It is not a car you use on a trip right now, the infrastructure just is not there. Also, does anyone ever ask these greenies just how the electricity gets to the outlets to power their virtue signaling vehicles? This administration is asking us to jump off a cliff and hope we can figure out to how to fly before we hit rock bottom. They are truly out of touch with reality and that is one of the many reasons they should never be near the levers of power. .

I ran across a photo the other day that solved many of the issues. The electric car owner placed a gasoline Honda generator in the trunk of the electric vehicle. While it does not change the fact that it takes a while to charge it, it was a great image. Also, beware of the 'fast' charging kiosks. Fast charging diminishes the overall life and health of the battery.

#13, I don’t know about power stations but one supermarket chain, “Giant”, has free charging stations in their parking lots so one can get a partial charge while shopping. And everyone who shops there and owns a gas powered car is paying for it because they certainly aren’t giving away free gas.

I have a regular car and a Tesla.
I have never "charged" either at home.
I -could- charge the Tesla at home but why? A super charger takes 20-30 minutes while I'm shopping or eating.
I can't "charge" my regular car at home at all! I don't have a gas pump at home, oh woe is me, so frustrating! No one told me I'd need my own underground tank and pump system with regular fuel deliveries to "charge" at home.

I have an idea. How about we put tiny little nuclear reactors under the hood and attach them to a tiny steam turban that will run a tiny generator to power the electric motor running the car. Just make sure you wear protective gear in case of an accident and make sure the locals have emergency nuclear clean up teams available 24/7.

Is lithium, used for batteries, a renewable source? Does the US produce a significant amount of lithium? And isn’t China the main source. Why are we pursuing a policy that will make us again dependent on foreign regimes, especially China, when we have our own sources of oil?

This is what happens when you get so wrapped up in virtue signalling that you don't consider what you are doing. Any way, your EV will look impressive parked at the curb, even if your not going anywhere.
However, it could have been worse. You could have been stuck in that traffic jam on I-95 and had to be towed to a recharge station when your EVs batteries fully discharged.

Way to go snowflakes, you got what you wanted so now live with it. EV's are not the answer. EV's cost as much or more to purchase, own and maintain. We will have to build more power plants in order to feed these beasts. Infrastructure to charge these things will cost billions to install and we don't even know if they are going to help the environment. I don't think the libs thought this through.

Being stupid is its own hazard. This clueless clown went and bought an electric vehicle without figuring out ahead of time how said vehicle was going to be charged. #1 What was not reported by the MSM is the ship loaded with cars that sank because an electric VW caught on fire a few months ago. That ship carried cars that were worth hundreds of thousands of dollars each and probably more. The entire crew was immediately evacuated, and the ship sank as it was being towed back to port.

And they can build as many charging stations as they want, we do not have the electrical grid to support the number of EV's they want to see on the road. Look at how many states that suffer from brownouts during the hot summer. Then you won't be allowed to plug it in. Remember, democrats do not have the ability to think or plan, they react. Got it...

A complete lack of planning and foresight No sympathy for them.
Electric vehicles will never come into their own until their batteries become standardized and easily removable so that they may be exchanged as easily as we drop off an empty propane tank and pick up a couple full ones. A battery you run on, and a spare to get to to an exchange site. No one will ever recharge their own batteries, any more than we refill our own propane tanks. Gas stations will have racks of fully charged batteries that can be exchanged and paid for even more quickly filling a car's gas tank.

This is absurd. Wouldn’t anyone with a functioning brain check that out before buying an electric car?
Some cities are putting in charging stations. How convenient is that? Meanwhile we have a price war going on between nearby Arco and 76 stations. They watch each other’s prices and adjust/post accordingly, and Gas Buddy informs the rest of us of what is going on. When we were filling up at the huge, very busy Arco (which now takes credit cards) the 76 across the street was getting ready for another reduction as its pump area was empty.

The lucky owners with a charger can still drive to the government co-op to get their borsch and vodka. The rest take mass transit or walk.

This story is mostly about renters in NY. Rich people in NY mostly rent. And they can afford an electric car. And the writer is most likely based in NY and that is the only perspective the writer has.
I'm sure the writer thinks that those people in middle America shouldn't even be allowed to exist let alone drive any kind of a car.
And if a food shortage occurs they will use the army to come take the food from middle America where the food is created and feed it to New Yorkers and let the middle American people starve. Just like the Soviets did to the Ukraine.

When houses or apartments are built, the electrical service is sized to meet the demands of a normal household. If you intend to have a charging station for your higher end EV, The electric service will need to be upgraded all the way back to the transformer (Pole).
Don't forget to add that cost in when choosing your new EV.

Our local library installed 4 charging stations. So, obviously it will take a patron an hour to return a book ? AND, on top of that, our taxes are paying for electric car owners to refuel, while gasoline users pay for their own fuel. I won't complain because everything at the library is free, including streaming services. There are over 300 apts near us with renters that have no way to charge a car at home.
