The University of Waterloo has an opening for a tenure track assistant professor specializing in science and engineering—but white men need not apply. According to a listing from the Canadian university last month, the position is available only to women, or 'qualified individuals who self-identify as women, transgender, non-binary, or two-spirit'—a gender-variant derived from Native American culture. Men, meanwhile, will not be considered, the school says—especially if they are white. The assistant professor role in the school's Natural Science and Engineering Research division would pay between $90,000 and $120,000 a year, according to the ad. Negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered

This would be illegal in the US. But - Canada seems to have a lot of 'extra crazy' people, and no constitution to define rights.

What keeps a unaltered biological adult male who dresses in traditional men's clothing, is married to a woman, has kids who call him dad, and uses whatever restroom suits his fancy from calling himself a woman? Or transsexual? Or two-spirited? Or nonbinary?
When objectivity is gone, one can call oneself whatever one likes. But just because one says it, doesn't make it so. This is madness. Be who you are -- whatever that is. But get hired on your merits, not on your description.

Two-Spirit means Double-Ghosted. I have a question though, are double-ghosted people born that way or is there an operation? Or is it a psychological thing like split personality or schitzophrenia? When they want to scare you do they shout Boo-Boo! I missed a lot when I didn't go to college.

So much nonsense. This is an institution of higher learning, where a male can qualify as female simply by self-proclamation. The school says no men need apply, but it won't be looking for a Y chromosome (using actual science) to ensure the position goes to a woman. Instead, the school stands ready to reward a man who calls himself a woman with a position the school set aside for women.

Hey, if Liz Warren can make a career simply by calling herself a Native American then anyone at all can identify as having "two-spirits". As far as I know there is no metric for confirming that a person has two spirits. What this university is really saying is that they are interested only in candidates who are mentally challenged!!
Parents: unless you want your kids to come out of college absolutely useless to society don't let your kids attend this school.

Why not a straight white male? They are the most discriminated against around. They should get extra points if they self identify as a conservative straight white male.

I must reveal that I once made a presentation at the University of Waterloo about 30 years ago, and still have the coffee cup to prove it.
In a strange way, Waterloo is helping potential white male applicants who are finishing their doctorates. Those students do not have to waste time applying for a non existent position at Waterloo.
Too often, subterfuge is used to make sure to hire a minority, and too much time is wasted by applicants when the hiring decision, a la Waterloo, is predetermined.
I have posted this situation once before, but it applies to this article.
I taught at a state university in a graduate, professional program. Our program employed a labor attorney, who taught required courses in employment law. The labor attorney announced his retirement, and we had to hiure a replacement, who held a law degree.
We had to get hiring approval from our provost, a black female.
This is what she told us. If you submit a candidate for hire who is a black, I will approve a permanent, tenure track position and approval for the hiring.
If you submit a white male candidate, I will refuse to allow a hiring. The position will be eliminated.
If you submit a white woman for hiring, I will approve just a one year, temporary, non tenure track hiring.
We hired a white woman.
Did the provost break the law? Yes. But she was not bright enough to see that.
Did our department break the law? Yes. We knew the law.
Were we practical in our decision? Yes.

Why stop there? Fire all White men on the school staff and expel all White men who are students. Anything less would be a crime against all women, or qualified individuals who self-identify as women, transgender, non-binary, or two-spirit.
