Schumer Threatens to Nuke Filibuster If
GOP Stands Ground on Voting Bill

Original Article

Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer announced Monday that the chamber would debate eliminating the filibuster in the coming weeks if Republicans refuse to join Democrats in passing sweeping voting legislation. While the filibuster was designed to empower the minority party in the Senate, Schumer argued that it now serves to “embarrass the will of the majority,” against the founders’ intentions for legislative procedure. He claimed that Republicans should not be allowed to block the Freedom to Vote Act, using the vehicle of the filibuster, that only further enshrines and expands the American right to vote.

You can't even get that done without buy in from members in your own party. You don't have the votes. A full nuclear option takes 67 votes, by the way - not 50. You can't even get 60 on most things now. You can try for a carve out for this voting 'rights' crap, but its not likely you are going to get to 50 even there. If you do manage to pass the John Lewis Citizen Voter Suppression Act, it will get slammed down as unconstitutional in the courts anyway. Why don't you just pass legislation that outlaws independent thought, individualism, and patriotism and get it over with?

The voter law that this article mentions is not a help. I simply takes federal voting completely away from the states (if they even count votes any more). Some 30 years ago, a bipartisan group run by Jimmy Carter recommended Voter ID at the polls and strict ways of validating absentee voting. This new so-called law is a sham.

Don't give 'em any ideas, #1. They won't hesitate to outlaw thinking and patriotism, or, barring that, getting their judges to claim it's already illegal.

I want to reply to #1's points with my take on them. Theis NOT an attack on #1. I repect #1's views immensely. #1 Who really think Schuumer intends to play be the rules to pass this? #2 No one in their right mind really relies on the courts to do the right thing. #3 Outlawing independent thought, individualism, and patriotism is exactly what they intend to do. #4 This is the biggest point. I dearly hope "Come and Take it" is right, and I am wrong!

He makes it sound like there are 59 democrat senators, and 41 Republicans were holding up legislation. Chuck only serves as Majority leader based on VP Harris breaking the 50-50 tie. The House has 5 seat majority, again, hardly "the will of the people" clamoring for massive changes, and ability of the Feds removing any need for smaller states to participate in elections any longer.

Let them nuke it if they can because it won't be long until the dems lose both houses of Congress, so they won't be able to use the filibuster against the Republican majority. Whatever they pass can be repealed but under no circumstances short of losing a civil war, should their voting theft rights bill be passed. IMHO, their voting caper would require a Constitutional amendment, which would require 34 states to propose the amendment and 38 states to pass it.

You are not representing the people and we do not need voting legislature, we need the voting rules that have stood us well since the beginning of this nation, to be enforced. Political grandstanding. Schumer doesn’t have the votes for this and he knows it. It is highly doubtful, going into the midterms when he will likely lose his position, that he really wants this. He’s not stupid. The payback would be severe. He is throwing this out to the whining base because there are no other cards to play.

Great comments! one nit from me. Sen Schumer should have included the full quote from the late Sen Byrd. If there is a Christian God, he is receiving his just treatment. If you follow the Vedic tradition, it would be interesting to see what his current Incarnation is! Dharma and Kharma! I realize it was on a slightly different subject, but certainly reveals who Schumer and the Democrat Party was and really still is. To paraphrase what was omitted from Sen Byrd's quote .... 'Rally tonight! Don't y'all be late now! We'll light things up right after sundown! Make sure all y'all properly launder your hoods and apparel for your horses. We should probably make up some new rules about that' I've had enough!

The Chicago Teachers’ Union, which represents 25,000 teachers in the city, voted Tuesday to strike against in-person schooling and conduct remote instruction until the Omicron spike subsides. The 600-member House of Delegates, the CTU’s governing body, decided to refuse to teach in the classroom until January 18 or until the virus infection rate hits below the threshold set last year. As pledged, Chicago Public Schools will cancel classes on Wednesday but keep schools open for students. Schools had resumed in-person learning Monday following the two-week winter break. Last year’s school closure threshold is a test positivity rate of ten percent or higher that has increased for the previous seven consecutive days,

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) has once again killed President Biden’s “Build Back Better” agenda, telling reporters on Tuesday that it’s deader than ever. While the establishment media reported Sunday from two confirmed sources that Manchin was resuming negotiations on Biden’s $1.9 trillion reconciliation package, the West Virginia senior told reporters the massive tax and spend plan was still dead. “I’m not agreeing to any of this,” Manchin said about changes to the package the media reported. “There’s been no conversations” with the White House. Manchin reiterated his December position: “I feel as strongly today as I did then.”

Joe Biden has been widely unpopular for many months now, with his average approval hovering in the low 40s since the late summer. Yet, for a long time, Democrats have had one issue to hang their hat on. That would be the COVID-19 pandemic. While the president’s ratings have long been terrible on the economy, immigration, and foreign policy (largely driven by his horrific evacuation from Afghanistan), he has mostly stayed above water in regards to his handling of the coronavirus. Given his less-than-stellar results, you’re probably asking yourself why that’s the case. The answer is because far too many

Democrats and their mainstream media allies express dismay, if not alarm, over a poll that shows 58 percent of Republicans don’t believe Joe Biden was elected legitimately. However, Byron York points out that in the Fall of 2017, the same pollster found that 67 percent of Democrats said Trump was not legitimately elected. Given the drumbeat of unfounded claims by mainstream media outlets of Russian collusion in the election of Trump, as well as supposed “voter suppression,” I’m surprised that even more Democrats didn’t view his election as illegitimate. It’s true that, unlike Trump in 2020, Hillary Clinton won the popular vote in 2016.

Data released Tuesday by the Labor Department shows the number of people leaving the workforce hit a new record in November when about 4.5 million workers quit their jobs. The number — up from 4.2 million in October — is the highest since the United States began keeping track of the statistic almost 20 years ago. The figure is equivalent to about 3% of the workforce. The so-called “quits rate” measures the number of people who voluntarily left their jobs while also counting those who left prior employment for another job and people who quit but believe they will soon find new employment.

Perhaps nothing has done more to expose the authoritarian tendencies of many “democratic” leaders throughout the world than COVID-19. Australia has perhaps been the most visible example, with numerous viral videos showing police viciously beating people for transgressions as small as not wearing a mask in public. Then there are the COVID concentration camps where people are forced into multi-week confinement — even if they aren’t positive for the virus. The scenes out of Europe are hardly better. Today, a video emerged that is so brutal that you’d think it was filmed in mid-’30s Germany. It comes from Amsterdam, and involves police assaulting people and attacking them with dogs.

With the turn of the calendar to 2022, Republicans are not only looking to the 2022 midterm elections but to the prospect of Donald Trump running in 2024. Trump is hugely popular with the party’s base and that popularity freezes the plans of other possible candidates for the 2024 nomination.
