USA Gymnastics and the US Olympics committee agreed Monday to give $380 million to victims of Larry Nassar’s sex abuse, the Wall Street Journal reported. Gold medalists like Simone Biles, Aly Raisman and McKayla Maroney will receive money in the settlement after it was revealed that team doctor Nassar had been repeatedly abusing gymnasts like the three for decades. Nassar, 58, a former Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics doctor, has been accused of sexual abuse under the guise of medical treatment by more than 260 women.

I get it that this is bad for girls.....but I think these monetary awards are just STUPID. One million would be a LOT of money. This is ridiculous, and just stealing money from whoever has to pay this out. I hope this gets lowered by about 100X by a sane court.

Too much. Of course the ambulance chasers will get half of it and retire. As an insurance agent for over 40 years I can tell you some horror stories about ridiculous, made up injuries, and mercenary attorneys who care nothing for their clients but are slavering after the insurance company money. These guys are no more than greedy, ‘Whiplash Willies’ trying to extort money from anyone who has insurance or assets. .

There are some weeks for which it is painful to be a conservative. The week of Election Day 2020 was one such week, and so was the week of January 6th, earlier this year. And then… then there are weeks for which it is absolutely glorious to be a conservative. Such weeks include instances when our allies are vindicated, or perhaps our conservative ideals are validated. Or better still, every once in a while, we are treated to a week in which we see an individual who is wholly representative of everything wrong with our ideological opponents being given his/her just desserts.

At least 12 major US cities have already set historical murder records in 2021, even as three weeks remain in the year. Philadelphia, the nation’s sixth largest city, recorded 523 murders as of Dec. 7, surpassing its formal grim milestone of 500 murders, which was set in 1990, police data showed. The City of Brotherly Love had recorded significantly more murders in 2021 than New York City’s 443, despite having approximately six times fewer residents. “It’s terrible to every morning get up and have to go look at the numbers and then look at the news and see the stories.

Former “Empire” star Jussie Smollett got combative as he finished testifying Tuesday in his alleged bogus-race-hate case, which was headed for closing arguments and potential jury deliberations Wednesday. The prosecution finished its cross-examination after grilling the embattled snippy actor on the stand for another two and half hours, following his previous five hours of testimony the day before. Before the judge called it a day in anticipation of closing arguments, jurors also heard from the Lyft driver who ferried around the brothers Smollett allegedly hired to help him pull off the ruse.

Fired CNN host Chris Cuomo is set to sue the network if it balks at paying him at least $18 million to cover what’s left on his contract, sources told The Post on Monday. Cuomo, 51, has hired lawyers and is preparing to file the lawsuit over the remainder of the four-year contract he signed last year — after a bitter back-and-forth about what the network knew of his secret efforts to aid his embattled brother, then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo, said sources familiar with the matter. His contract was reportedly worth $6 million annually, leaving between $18 million and $20 million that he would be owed

Fredo Cuomo’s suspension from CNN is so improbable, the choice was an easy one. But before we examine the justification for Fredo’s selection, let’s pause for a moment to consider how far the House of Cuomo has fallen in such a short period of time. A year ago today, now-disgraced former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, Fredo’s brother, was still trying to figure out where to display the Emmy Award he’d been given

Instead, Biden plans to rely on vaccinations to combat the latest version of the virus to pose a serious threat. In a shortened holiday week like this one, we might expect there would be fewer candidates for KOTW. Virtually all Americans spent Thursday with their families where presumably the only opportunities to display someone’s knuckleheadedness was to their loved ones in a private setting. Similarly, Friday is traditionally spent either relaxing, or perhaps kicking off the holiday shopping season. Therefore, we could assume that with two less days for public idiocy we would see less of it: but that assumption would be incorrect.

Everyone’s understandably focused today on how Cheney embarrassed Trump Jr and the Fox News gang by reading their texts to Trump on January 6. Ed has a nice write-up about it here. But don’t miss the forest for the trees. The point Cheney was making isn’t that Fox News hosts are hypocrites, although they are. The point is that the president’s own family and allies were pleading with him while the riot was unfolding to do something, yet he did nothing — for hours. Everyone around him treated it like an emergency. Not him. Was that a crime? Watch the end of this clip, starting at around 3:00.

A new super-variant could be created if Omicron and Delta infect someone at the same time, one of Moderna's bosses has warned. Covid infections normally only involve one mutant strain, but in extremely rare cases two can strike at the same time. If these also infect the same cell, they may be able to swap DNA and combine to make a new version of the virus. Dr Paul Burton, the vaccine maker's chief medical officer, warned the high numbers of Delta and Omicron cases currently circulating in Britain made this more likely.(Snip)Researchers have warned that these events, scientifically called 'recombination events', are possible but they require

The outcome of Dobbs could have direct implications on Roe. In an interview published Sunday with the San Francisco Chronicle, Harris said that efforts for SCOTUS to curtail abortion could result in women dying, adding that she’s not “alarmist” or “extreme” by suggesting that. “I don’t mean to sound alarmist, I mean this: Women will die,” Harris said in the interview.
