At least 12 major US cities have already set historical murder records in 2021, even as three weeks remain in the year.
Philadelphia, the nation’s sixth largest city, recorded 523 murders as of Dec. 7, surpassing its formal grim milestone of 500 murders, which was set in 1990, police data showed.
The City of Brotherly Love had recorded significantly more murders in 2021 than New York City’s 443, despite having approximately six times fewer residents.
“It’s terrible to every morning get up and have to go look at the numbers and then look at the news and see the stories.

Former “Empire” star Jussie Smollett got combative as he finished testifying Tuesday in his alleged bogus-race-hate case, which was headed for closing arguments and potential jury deliberations Wednesday.
The prosecution finished its cross-examination after grilling the embattled snippy actor on the stand for another two and half hours, following his previous five hours of testimony the day before.
Before the judge called it a day in anticipation of closing arguments, jurors also heard from the Lyft driver who ferried around the brothers Smollett allegedly hired to help him pull off the ruse.

Fired CNN host Chris Cuomo is set to sue the network if it balks at paying him at least $18 million to cover what’s left on his contract, sources told The Post on Monday.
Cuomo, 51, has hired lawyers and is preparing to file the lawsuit over the remainder of the four-year contract he signed last year — after a bitter back-and-forth about what the network knew of his secret efforts to aid his embattled brother, then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo, said sources familiar with the matter.
His contract was reportedly worth $6 million annually, leaving between $18 million and $20 million that he would be owed

The decision on who to honor as this week’s top knucklehead was a relatively easy one, for a change, with the only real competition being provided by our two honorable mentions. Fredo Cuomo’s suspension from CNN is so improbable, the choice was an easy one. But before we examine the justification for Fredo’s selection, let’s pause for a moment to consider how far the House of Cuomo has fallen in such a short period of time. A year ago today, now-disgraced former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, Fredo’s brother, was still trying to figure out where to display the Emmy Award he’d been given

Did you see that hug between Wonder Boy President in Waiting Pete Buttigieg and Back Off Little Man I’m Boss Lady of This House Kamala Harris? I’ve seen leprous porcupines get closer together for a hug. Harris and Buttigieg could have danced like that at a Catholic high school in 1957 and the chaperone would have said, “I’ll allow it. If anything, there’s room for two Holy Spirits in between.”
H and B managed to hug while looking like they wished they were in two different time zones, just as their political fortunes are going in completely different directions:

Jussie Smollett and the two men who attacked him as part of an alleged hate crime hoax participated in a “dry run” of the incident to ensure that it would go according to plan, prosecutor Dan Webb alleged in his Monday evening opening remarks at the disgraced actor’s trial.
“I want you to attack me, but when you hit me, I want you to kind of pull your punches a bit because I don’t want to get seriously hurt,” Smollett told brothers Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo, according to Webb. Webb cited alleged video evidence showing Smollett’s Mercedes circling the location of the faked attack

President Biden on Monday said he will unveil his plan Thursday to tackle the new omicron variant of COVID-19, saying the strategy will not include more lockdowns. Instead, Biden plans to rely on vaccinations to combat the latest version of the virus to pose a serious threat.
Speaking during a meeting with CEOs of various companies to discuss the holiday shopping season and his administration’s work to address the supply chain crisis, Biden also said that Americans who are eligible for a booster shot have "no excuse" for not getting one.

In a shortened holiday week like this one, we might expect there would be fewer candidates for KOTW. Virtually all Americans spent Thursday with their families where presumably the only opportunities to display someone’s knuckleheadedness was to their loved ones in a private setting. Similarly, Friday is traditionally spent either relaxing, or perhaps kicking off the holiday shopping season. Therefore, we could assume that with two less days for public idiocy we would see less of it: but that assumption would be incorrect.

An English woman with spina bifida is suing her mother’s former doctor for millions of dollars in health care costs and damages claiming that she should never have been born.
Evie Toombes, a 20-year-old equestrian show jumper from Lincolnshire, is suing her mother’s general practitioner, Dr. Philip Mitchell, for “wrongful conception” after he allegedly failed to advise her mother to take folic acid supplements before getting pregnant that she claims resulted in her birth defect, according to The Telegraph.
Toombes was diagnosed with lipomyelomeningocele after her birth in November 2001, a neural tube defect to the spine.

Democrat Senator Elizabeth Warren is calling for an investigation into the rapid increase in turkey prices as Americans face sticker shock at the grocery store.
In a letter sent to Assistant Attorney General of the Antitrust Division Jonathan Kanter this week, Warren is asking the Department of Justice to investigate the poultry industry. She's blaming a rise in prices on "corporate greed," rather than on President Joe Biden's inflationary policies.
"The price of turkey has increased by 24% over the past year, far outpacing other Thanksgiving foods,

An Illinois Democrat has been blasted for describing the deadly Christmas parade rampage in Wisconsin as “karma” for the acquittal of Kyle Rittenhouse.
Mary Lemanski, who is listed as the social media director for the Democratic Party in DuPage County, began her heartless online tirade by snarkily dismissing the tragedy as “just self-defense." “It was probably just self-defense,” Lemanski wrote in a tweet that appears to have since been deleted, according to Fox News.
“Living in Wisconsin, he probably felt threatened,” another tweet, which was still online Monday morning, read — referring to the driver being held as a person of interest

This week’s top knucklehead hails from the great State of Missouri and is the most recent addition to that lovable group of clowns known as ‘The Squad.’ Representative Cori Bush (D-MO) made a startling claim this week by asserting, “When we marched in Ferguson, white supremacists would hide behind a hill near where Michael Brown Jr. was murdered and shoot at us. They never faced consequences.” You say you don’t remember Ferguson protesters being shot at by white supremacists?"

I'm no legal expert, but this can't be a good look in front of a jury. Snapping and talking down to a prosecutor. I soooo hope he gets convicted.
