Investigators in Bountiful need the public’s help to identify several suspects who were involved in the shooting of a homeowner during a car burglary. Bountiful Police released home surveillance video of the shooting which shows several suspects approaching cars in front of homes on 2700 South. A homeowner was awake and ran outside to confront the suspects. The video shows the man run into the driveway at which point the suspect runoff and then several shots are fired.

Comments:

He sprung into action quickly considering when the notification would've arrived. This type of thing is extremely common in nicer neighborhoods with guys checking door handles and trailing getaway/loot drop cars. They target them because nicer neighborhoods are more likely to be complacent about locking their doors. Heard from the neighborhood app about how many wallets, purses, and guns these types have made off with. Shows me that people aren't learning how to cover their ASP enough... In any case, his reaction is just plain stupid. You have the cams and the alerts so that YOU can gain the upper hand... and you go run out in your socks with no gun?

If your strategy consists of you mindlessly running straight at the guys wearing body armor who are probably armed then maybe you should just stay inside... this homeowner was an idiot. He's lucky he didn't die.

The best approach is to keep your cars in the garage, and if that isn't possible, make sure the cars parked outside are under motion-activated lights and cameras, locked, and empty of stealables. You may get a broken or two, but in the grand scheme of life, that's minor.

Such criminal acts are very rare in my rural area next to a moderate-sized city in a deep red state. Probably because it is generally understood that along with a majority of my neighbors, I have a .45 in my nightstand and an AR-15 inside my closet. I never respond to a noise outside my residence without a bright flashlight in one hand and a firearm in the other. I see a lot of my neighbors at the local gun club keeping their shooting skills sharp. Life here is quite different than what I see reported in the major cities. There is a reason for this--and the law enforcement officers are on our side.

Excellent commentary in the article. The home owner is lucky to have survived his bone headed moves. If you aren't armed and skilled, taking on criminals is pretty stupid, more likely to get you hurt than protect your property or catch the criminals. The crooks took quite a while to get their car turned around and seemed to be crashing into stuff in the dark. With a rifle or shotgun, you could have had an opportunity to deter or engage them during that period. Since they were firing first, he would have been cleared to fire back in self defense.....except he didn't have a gun. Either stay in the house and call the cops, or maybe yell out the door if you are unarmed. These days most criminals are armed and are perfectly willing to kill you.

These days, with Soros DAs and just basically evil , stupid politicians, confronting feral criminals and thugs no matter how wel armed, trained and competent you are, is not a good choice. Confront any of the 'protected groups' when armed will result in the system going after you. None of this 'free bail' crap. You will be held, until trial, or maybe released after paying a few million in cash bail The corrupt 'Just-Us' system will ruin your life.

Never leave anything valuable in your car and never lock the doors. They will just break the windows. Calling the cops where I live means they may show up half an hour later, or they may not come at all. I keep a shotgun close I am not good with a pistol

I vote for a fenced yard with a pair of German Shepherds inside the fence. And shotgun backup. But with the dogs you won't need the gun.

Everyone’s understandably focused today on how Cheney embarrassed Trump Jr and the Fox News gang by reading their texts to Trump on January 6. Ed has a nice write-up about it here. But don’t miss the forest for the trees. The point Cheney was making isn’t that Fox News hosts are hypocrites, although they are. The point is that the president’s own family and allies were pleading with him while the riot was unfolding to do something, yet he did nothing — for hours. Everyone around him treated it like an emergency. Not him. Was that a crime? Watch the end of this clip, starting at around 3:00.
