California Gov. Gavin Newsom wants to pass legislation modeled on Texas’ abortion law to empower private citizens to enforce the state’s laws against assault weapons.
Newsom, incensed by the Supreme Court’s ruling on Friday that allowed the Texas law to remain in effect while abortion clinics challenge it, called on the state legislature and the attorney general to craft legislation that would authorize private citizens to sue “anyone who manufactures, distributes, or sells an assault weapon or ghost gun kit or parts in CA.”

Unlike abortion, the right to bear arms (have a gun) is actually in the Constitution. In fact, it is considered so important that it has its own actual Right. Apparently Newsom and Democrats are ignorant of this.

Hey Newsom you mean like the same type of weapons that protect you? You think we are not worthy of the same protections you enjoy? You should be protected by others but we cannot protect ourselves because you say so?

The right to bear arms is explicitly in the Constitution, abortion is nowhere to be found. Small but relevant difference, I imagine.

I hate to admit this but I am weary of the insanity that resides in the golden state. It is an abomination what democrats have done to this beautiful, once very productive state. My heart aches for all the good people who reside there and must live with the consequences of people who enact policies that destroy their lives. When a political party will do anything to win, it is very difficult to combat that. The money pours into the state propping up the status quo and if we have learned anything these past few months is that the love of money is the root of all evil and will convince reasonable people to do unimaginable things. The abandonment of law and order will be the thing that destroys the state. People cannot thrive in an atmosphere of fear. They must be allowed to protect themselves. Reasonable people understand this. Unfortunately, the government is is filled with elected and unelected individuals who deny the second amendment. California is in such decline that it would take an act of God to pull it back from the path it is presently on.

Number 4 is correct about an act of God, but I suspect he is waiting for all the conservatives to leave before he does his thing....they get what they vote for, but unfortunately conservatives still living there have to suffer as well...Gruesome Newsome....oh, and call abortion what it really is...MURDER....I'm sure the Devil smiles every time one baby is snuffed out...

Democrats better think through this one, as they could see it extended into education where parents could sue teachers, administrators and districts for not providing a quality education that enables students to obtain a decent level of understanding to find employment.
And, remember, the Texas law only kicks in after 16 weeks, when 95+ percent of all abortions were prior to 15 weeks.
California law would enable legal abortions even if Roe were overturned, and many other states have trigger laws too. It would blow a whole into their scare tactics that it would suddenly be illegal everywhere.
Heck, it was legal prior to Roe in New York, Washington, Alaska and Hawaii.

The governor probably was unaware that bearing arms is protected by the Constitution.

Unfortunately for Gov. Hairgel, he cannot do anything of the sort. Gun manufacturers are indemnified from lawsuits of this type by the PLCA, which has been federal law since 2005. Legal commerce is also protected by the Constitution.
In point of fact, due to 2A being explicit to the Constitution, not a single restriction of any type is legal. Feel free to spend the taxpayers' money on this ridiculous idea, but it doesn't have a snowballs chance of going anywhere.
We know this is nothing but red meat to your idiot base, and that you know this will go absolutely nowhere. In fact, I endorse this effort, because every time the left opens the door to legal action against the anti-gun agenda, they lose ground. It happened in Heller, in McDonald, and will soon happen in the NY lawsuit. Go ahead and give us another opportunity to roll back some more of your commie crap. I dare you.

I recognize the Constitutional differences between the CA and the TX law, but allowing Karen Citizen to sue others for things she doesn't like is a huge can of worms. In effect, 'standing' to sue is out the window and would serve only lawyers. Both laws are nightmares.

Re: #4 - I believe author Dean Koontz inadvertently explained a lot regarding the attitudes and actions of citizens in places like LA, SF, NYC, and Minneapolis by the following quote from a non-political novel: "Most people satisfy themselves by strongly opposing little evils, like hurtful words and unpopular ideas, where risk of angering violent people is low."
Not only does the quote highlight the nature of virtue signaling, but it sort of explains why good people of all political persuasions tend to cower, avoiding the heavy lifting required to hold big evils at bay.

The difference between the two "legislations" is effectiveness.
The abortion law in Texas will reduce abortions in Texas, while the gun law in California will not reduce gun crime in California.

There is already an existing federal law which blocks this sort of lawsuit.
Sorry, genius, this is old hat and was blocked by federal law long ago.
Too bad, you lose. Can't sue.

Just want to remind the democrats why you are always falling behind. Guns are protected by the constitution and so are unborn babies. Might need to go back to school and learn some problem-solving skills….
