U.S. Representative Steve Cohen (D-TN-09) said at a House Judiciary hearing last week that good people with firearms do not stop bad people with firearms. “Show me a case in Memphis where a good man or woman with a gun protected and stopped the use of a weapon. That canard doesn’t occur. That dog won’t hunt. It doesn’t happen. You talk about people losing their Second Amendment rights through these procedures,” Cohen said, referring to various states’ red flag laws. “Show me a case anywhere, in any of those 16 states or anywhere, where someone had their guns taken and then they were assaulted and shot by someone and couldn’t defend themselves CORRECTION*

The criminals say otherwise, when you ask them. Multiple different criminologists have interviewed burglars and robbers in prison, and one of the common questions is whether they fear armed citizens or police more.
They always say they fear armed citizens more, by a large margin, and usually comment something like "cops can't just shoot you, but regular folks are likely to just shoot you."
The Rep is totally full of horse manure.

He runs unopposed because its pointless for a Republican to run against him. Marsha Blackburn was our rep , then we were redistricted. I asked Cohen who he considers is in his district. He more or less responded that it wasn't people like me.

I think deterrence is secondary.
Defense…and target practice that’s what I think a weapon is for.
It will deter some, but not all.

Let them give up their guns and when the bad guys show up they can decide to fight with a bong or a sex toy.

So if I’m sitting on the couch with my big old loaded gun aimed at the bad guy’s mid section as he comes through the door that’s not a detect a deterrent? Really? Asshat, thy name is Steven Cohen.

I knew people voted to public office weren't the brightest lights, but I didn't think they were this stupid.

Nobody has to explain to Cohen or any other congress person why we need/want guns. It's our human right and none of their business.

I presume he chooses to be ignorant and not want to simply walk over to the FBI offices to be educated.

That Idiot knew what he was saying was a lie but he just wanted that to go in the Congressional Record so they could use it at will later on.

Cohen gets elected by a vast black majority of Memphis constituents. He is one of Congress's worst pandering, grandstanding demagogues. He's destructive and awful, when he talks, don't listen.

I don't know about Memphis, but examples of your average citizen deterring a crime is almost seen daily. So I'm pretty sure it has occurred in Memphis at some point. Being stupid and saying stupid things appears to be a politicians apparent job, because so many are extremely skilled at doing so.

Bull Crap...Come to Texas and make a loud 'gun sound' almost anywhere and you will instantly have at least 50% of those TEXANS present draw THEIR GUNS. IF the sound was 'real', it's highly likely the Perp would have at least 5 rounds in his/her torso within seconds.
Now tell us again how this doesn't work Commie...

I think he counts brandishing without firing at a hostile attacker, as a crimeless event, except for the brandisher, who is a criminal.
If someone DOES protect their lives and loved ones, that's a crime in itself, in this idiots eyes.

Congressman Steve "Chicken" Cohen is a first rate idiot.
His city, Memphis, is circling the drain because of a horrendous level of violence. Rather than try to fix the problems, he prefers to showboat in front of the cameras.

He spends very little time in Memphis. If he did he would know why you might want to protect yourself with a firearm.

He could pick up a copy of NRAs magazine and read the dozen or so documented cases every month where an armed citizen stopped a crime. The bad guy is often killed but many where the citizen has simply produced a firearm and the criminal flees.

I am frequently baffled by how this clown, one of the stupidest people to ever 'serve' in Congress, keeps getting elected out of Tennessee. His politics seem much more New York City to me.
