Will China Invade Taiwan? Despite the recent saber rattling, probably not any time soon. It lacks the amphibious capacity to land the 30 plus brigades it will need to overcome the island’s defense. “China does not appear to be currently investing in the equipment likely required for a direct assault on Taiwan, such as large amphibious assault ships and medium landing craft necessary for a large beach assault.” Beijing’s current naval build implies the prerequisite for taking Taipei is neutralizing the US navy. “China’s recent spate of military exercises and the PLA Navy’s focus on building large aircraft carriers, escort cruisers and amphibious transport dock (LPD) ships

They had better not. If they do, Creepy Joe will send them a strongly-worded letter, and he might even get a UN resolution to condemn them. Now that's a deterrent!

They don't need to invade. They can bomb them into submission. THEN send in troops to occupy after surrender. China has the capacity to bomb 24/7 and blockade the island for as long as it takes.

Those renegades in Taiwan are to China what those scary Commies in NoKor are to the USA...they're both convenient boogeymen for domestic consumption by the Chinese and Americans respectively. Let's put GIs in pillboxes along the Taiwanese coastline, the Straits of Formosa Wall, to act as a tripwire to WW3. No, let's not. An invasion of Taiwan is almost certainly not in the cards. It would end the renegade schtick, and it would expose China to lose face and more internationally. Sanctions would quickly cripple the Chinese economy...they rely on imports for many key materials, exports for economic vitality. Name a developed country that is not in decline, particularly demographic. Are the Brits, French, Germans or anyone else seeing an ever younger society, or have they peaked and now suffer from the general decline in births. It's one reason for relaxed immigration in Europe and here. And that creates other problems...

The Biden “woke” military said that the USA’s commitment to Taiwan is “rock solid” but from what has been going on with the Biden-Harris Administration that commitment could well actually resemble a rock sinking in a swamp if the balloon ever goes up creating a real battlefield and the going gets tough, all you have to see is what the Democrats did in Vietnam, Iraq, and the recent Biden retreat and effective surrender to the primitive 7th Century style Taliban of Afghanistan.

China could invade Taiwan today. It does not need to neutralize the US Navy. The powers that be would do nothing but complain about China's actions; they would not actually do anything about it. And we'd still be importing goods from China. All this saddens me.

Fernandez is correct in the estimation of military capacity for an amphibious operation. Reading extensively on the history of WW2, it becomes clear that learning from Gallipoli, Churchill's idea of a ship which could run right up to a shore, open the bow, and have loaded trucks and tanks drive right off, was crucial to many amphibious landings around the world. The Land Ship, Tank (LSTs) were an enabling technology to make an amphibious landing feasible. Churchill's ideas were turned into a landing ship by British marine architects. US ship designers asked why it was so small, and greatly enlarged and improved the design, and we build a bunch of LSTs which were crucial to successful landings around the world. Wretchard is right. China isn't going to invade soon if they don't have some sort of large landing craft in great numbers. Assaulting fixed defenses normally requires a 5:1 numerical superiority in troops. With 22 brigades defending, that means delivering over 100 brigades and equipment, and supplying them from the sea. Clearly, China has other plans. And whether China is failing seems unclear at this point. Clearly Traitor Joe is failing, and our oligarchs are destroying the USA as rapidly as they can. FTA:"American democracy? It looks more and more like an oligarchy by the day, the rule by/for/of the rich and special interests." Sadly, the author gets this right, too. And many Americans see it happening.

How many airliners and cargo planes does China have? How many paratroopers? If they can land enough paratroops to take over the larger airports, they can airlift in whatever equipment and supplies they need, and go from there. They can also land enough paratroops to take over whatever vital positions need to be taken over. It'll be over and done by the time the sun rises the next day here in the US. The ChiComs know that Crooked Dementia Joe, who is in their pocket, will do nothing to stop them.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday handed the Biden administration a stunning defeat with regard to construction on former President Donald Trump’s border wall, which currently sits incomplete as illegal immigrants continue to flood across the open border. The country’s high court ordered lower courts to vacate previous rulings about the wall, citing “changed circumstances” in the case. Environmental activists, activist judges, Democrats in Congress and private law organizations such as the American Civil Liberties Union have of course opposed the wall since before concrete was ever poured. The Trump administration in 2019 declared a national emergency at the border. The White House and Defense Department then diverted $3.6 billion

The commander of the U.S. Central Command, General Kenneth “Frank” McKenzie, and the commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan, General Scott Miller, told Congress that they had recommended to Joe Biden that the military maintain a presence of at least 2,500 troops in Afghanistan. Biden said in an August 19 interview with George Stephanopoulos that he couldn’t recall anyone recommending that troops remain in Afghanistan after the August 31 deadline. The testimony was extraordinary because a serving commander has rarely contradicted anything his commander in chief has said. General McKenzie also recommended to Donald Trump that a force of 4,500 troops stay in Afghanistan.
