ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- An alligator attacked a homeless woman who fell into a Florida canal on Monday morning, authorities said. The woman was resting on a sea wall when she fell into the canal, according to a St. Petersburg Fire Rescue news release. Someone heard her cries for help and called 911. The woman, who is in her 50s, was taken to a hospital with severe injuries to her arms, the release said. She was reported to be in stable condition. Authorities from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission were trying to locate the alligator on Monday morning. The wildlife agency uses professional gator trappers for its Nuisance Alligator Program.

Comments:

Florida woman! Try not to fall into canals. In the Sunshine State there are alligators in all of them.

If there is a pond, lake or canal in Florida….chances are there’s a gator around.

Must have been not a very big gator. A really big one would have caused more damage. She's lucky.

The American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis) inhabits all counties in the Florida, and may be found in any body of fresh water, including swimming pools without enclosures. I hope this unfortunate woman recovers. Why did she fall off a seawall? Why didn't Brian Laundrie fall off a seawall instead?

Wait … gators are people, too! Why would these Floridians take food from the mouth of a hungry gator? /sarcasm off

I fenced in my back yard to ensure that a gator wouldn't get in and eat the dog. Then I watched the local news showing a gator climbing a fence. Anywhere in Florida and South Georgia, one must assume that there is a gator or water mocassan in any body of water.

It is that time of year when snowbirds who panic at the thought of snow on the ground, flee to FLA. Have fun. I lived there as a kid, visited many times and it is fun, but it is an alien world to me. I'll trade black snakes for Water Mocassins and Pythons any day.

Resting on a sea wall. She was either drunk or drugged. No one rests on a canal wall in Florida sober. After visiting a friend in Florida, and watching people checking for gators under their cars as they go out to work, I'm convinced gators live everywhere where there is water. Even the kids playground was surrounded by fencing to keep the snakes and gators out.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday handed the Biden administration a stunning defeat with regard to construction on former President Donald Trump’s border wall, which currently sits incomplete as illegal immigrants continue to flood across the open border. The country’s high court ordered lower courts to vacate previous rulings about the wall, citing “changed circumstances” in the case. Environmental activists, activist judges, Democrats in Congress and private law organizations such as the American Civil Liberties Union have of course opposed the wall since before concrete was ever poured. The Trump administration in 2019 declared a national emergency at the border. The White House and Defense Department then diverted $3.6 billion

Will China Invade Taiwan? Despite the recent saber rattling, probably not any time soon. It lacks the amphibious capacity to land the 30 plus brigades it will need to overcome the island’s defense. “China does not appear to be currently investing in the equipment likely required for a direct assault on Taiwan, such as large amphibious assault ships and medium landing craft necessary for a large beach assault.” Beijing’s current naval build implies the prerequisite for taking Taipei is neutralizing the US navy. “China’s recent spate of military exercises and the PLA Navy’s focus on building large aircraft carriers, escort cruisers and amphibious transport dock (LPD) ships

Smith & Wesson is moving its headquarters from Massachusetts to Tennessee, citing the southern state's "unwavering support of the Second Amendment" as well as its lower cost of living. The decision to depart New England was "an extremely difficult and emotional" one, Mark Smith, the gun-maker's president and CEO, said Thursday in a statement. The company, based in Springfield, Massachusetts, since 1852, will spend $125 million on the relocation, it said. As many as 750 jobs will move from Massachusetts, Connecticut and Missouri to Maryville, Tennessee, by the summer of 2023, according to Smith & Wesson.

In an interview with “Good Morning America” on Tuesday, former President Barack Obama commented on the border crisis in Del Rio, Texas. Obama stated that the crisis at the Del Rio border is “heartbreaking” and that the system, overall, “is dysfunctional.” “It’s the reason I proposed comprehensive immigration reform. It’s the reason Joe Biden proposed it during his administration, and it’s something that is long overdue,” Obama stated, according to GMA. The former president went on to say the situation at Del Rio is a reminder that more work needs to be done and that President Biden understands the situation better than anyone. “As big-hearted as he is,

The commander of the U.S. Central Command, General Kenneth “Frank” McKenzie, and the commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan, General Scott Miller, told Congress that they had recommended to Joe Biden that the military maintain a presence of at least 2,500 troops in Afghanistan. Biden said in an August 19 interview with George Stephanopoulos that he couldn’t recall anyone recommending that troops remain in Afghanistan after the August 31 deadline. The testimony was extraordinary because a serving commander has rarely contradicted anything his commander in chief has said. General McKenzie also recommended to Donald Trump that a force of 4,500 troops stay in Afghanistan.

Despite his vow to “build back better,” China is forcing all of Joe Biden’s moves. The Asian giant’s decision to pursue its own climate policy, consisting largely of more industrialization with green trimmings, effectively kills the Paris accords, so long a part of the progressive platform. How could it not? Beijing produces more emissions than the EU and U.S. combined. “In 2019, China’s emissions not only eclipsed that of the US — the world’s second-largest emitter at 11% of the global total — but also, for the first time, surpassed the emissions of all developed countries

Although the visiting Europeans hinted at a comeback on Saturday afternoon, the US was able to enter Sunday leading 11-5. And during the Singles matches on Sunday, Collin Morikawa claimed the decisive half point to ensure the US had the required 14.5 points to regain the Ryder Cup and the famous trophy remained in the US.

Three glistening new buildings in downtown Seattle with 165 studio apartments — originally to be rented at market rates — will instead house the homeless. The Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI) is buying the buildings with taxpayer dollars for about $50 million, with federal COVID-19 relief funds splitting the cost equally. Seattle City Hall is contributing about $25 million, while also using “American Rescue Plan Act” funds. A large portion comes from Washington State’s Department of Commerce. Left-wing Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan, so unpopular she can’t run for re-election, claims the deals will house people quickly and cheaply, compared to the time and cost required to develop similar projects from scratch.

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden on Monday urged Republican senators to “get out of the way” and let Democrats suspend the nation’s debt limit, hoping to keep the U.S. government from bumping dangerously close to a credit default as Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell refuses to lend his party’s help.
